October 18th, 10pm
Things in Harbor City had settled into a weird quiet. There was still crime sure, that would never go away but The Light had all but disappeared. Or so it would seem. Normally, that would be a good thing but it had been too quiet for too long and that was making her suspicious. Since her and Kaldur’ahms run in a few months ago leads against The Light suddenly stopped. It was like they just disappeared without a trace but, she knew better. They were still here, still in Harbor City but they were much better about covering their tracks now and if some inkling of a lead did come up it would have trap written all over it.
The discovery back in August had done more bad than good, it proved that The Light was active in the city yes, but, that was not news. It didn’t tell them what they were up to or why King Shark was there or why they had been abducting street kids or where they were. It was too many unanswered questions and she did not like it.
But, Katt had to remember that finding out what The Light was doing was not her only concern; she had a city to protect and that had to come first. Besides, she couldn’t do anything without a lead to go on and until she got that Katherine had to focus her efforts elsewhere and with her (slightly) reconciled friendship with Kaldur she wouldn’t feel wrong going to The League or Team for help anymore.
However, there were other things to worry about tonight.
Even if The Light had seemed to disappear from the city the rest of the crime had not. Muggings, robberies and gang related activity were still alive and well, there was never a shortage of that. With the cities ports and ocean access it was ripe with the drug, weapons and human trafficking trade and word that trickled down the underworld pipeline that a shipment of military grade weapons were supposed to arrive in the city tonight. She wasn’t sure what gang was claiming them…if one even was but with that type of technology those guns would sell fast on the black market, it was best to intercept the guns first to avoid them hitting the streets.
The shipment wasn’t supposed to arrive until midnight but Katt wanted to get a good vantage point and stake out the location first. It was just after 10 when she made it to the docks and she floated up to the roof of one of the storage warehouses after securing the location and took out a small pair of nightvision binoculars from her belt. From her location on the rooftop Hydracat could see the docking bay where the ship was supposed to come in and she would also be able to scout out anyone that might arrive.
The first half hour passed in silence, nothing interesting had happened and just as she was settling in for the rest of her stakeout and switching her kneeling position more to her other leg Hydracat hear some commotion not far from her. Turning her binoculars in the direction of the noise she looked around for its source, hoping it wasn’t some unsuspecting workers or better yet, some of the goons that had arrived early. As she zeroed in on the origin of the sound she saw that it looked like a bunch of kids and she couldn’t really tell from her spot above but they seemed to range in age and backgrounds. Well, that was no good. They couldn’t stay around here, there was bound to be some gun fire tonight and she didn’t want any stray bullets flying in their direction or having any of them get mixed up in her bust by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She could scare them off, she had time and if she didn’t now she would still have time to make it back to her location and remain out of sight.
Pushing herself up but still remaining crouched Katt made her way closer to the opposite ledge of the building so she could get a better look at what was going on below her with her unwanted guest. Maybe they were just a bunch of high school kids looking for a place to party and cause some mischief…but, even if they didn’t seem dangerous she wanted to double check to make sure they weren’t part of a bigger, badder group.
When she was finally closer and able to hear and see the teens below her better Katt came to the conclusion that they were just a bunch of kids messing around and by the look of their clothes they were probably street kids. She was about to scare them off with a little water, nothing too bad but it had rained a little earlier and there was enough water on the ground for her to give them a good scare that would hopefully send them in the other direction but before she could even flick her hand she noticed something big and white slowly creeping up behind the group.
It was a van and on further inspection she could see that it had no windows or readable license plate.
That wasn’t shady at all.
Katt watched as the van came to a stop slightly behind the group of kids as three large men got out with a box of food and other things and started to approach them. As the men approached the group she could faintly hear them talking to the kids, telling them that they were from a local shelter and that they had warm beds and food if the kids needed a place to stay. Right. If she had to guess they were part of the human traffickers looking for some fresh bodies…or, they were part of Cadmus, either way, it wasn’t good.
One of the men stopped their approach and hung back…no doubt a lookout while the other two came closer, they had the box of sandwiches that they would use to lure in the kids until they were close enough to grab and then a forth man in the truck would drive up and they would shove the kids in the van and that would be that.
Well, not tonight, not on her watch.
Katt tucked away her binoculars and got ready to strike, all she needed was a opening and a reason and she would be on that faster than you could say ‘Hydracat’

Long days were high on the list of reasons why Ember liked to stay in at night. She wasn't the party type of girl, and wasn't partial to large, loud crowds of people jammed into one space. Since she'd come to Harbor City, her desire to remain indoors had increased. Extended shifts at some of the jobs she'd been lucky to pick up left her worn out; she was trying to supply the necessities for more than herself. Of course, staying inside meant trying to keep warm in the rundown hide out, usually crammed with runaways of numerous ages. She had to choose between a night to explore and a night inside, shared with people either way.
Ember had been set on remaining at the hideout, returning from work and feeling tired to the bone. She woke when the sun was just peering out from the dark, and by the time she'd been let off the job blackness had taken the sky again. Glad to have finally caught a break, Ember had tossed herself down on her sleeping bag in the corner, laying flat on her back and closing her eyes.
That lasted for a blissful thirty seconds.
Her eyes snapped open at a long, drawled out call of her name, Ember pushing herself up reluctantly. She had barely readjusted to sight beyond her closed eyelids when the requests came at her, jumbled and intermixed, worded differently but all having the same meaning; we’re going out, come with us. Ember had waved away the requests, tried to lay back down and keep firm in her answer. But the pleading went on, and on…and on…and on…
And that was how Ember found herself walking the streets in the middle of the night. Her hands were shoved deep into the pockets of her jacket, trailing a few steps behind the rest of the group. There weren’t many of them; since she’d arrived to Harbor City their numbers had shrunken to about eight total, including herself. They all varied in age, each had a reason to leave home. But one thing that was always certain no matter who they picked up along the way; Ember was the oldest. She had yet to meet any runaway her age, or even within a few months.
Which also meant she had not met anyone who wanted to take the task of leadership off her hands. It wasn’t like she had taken the job willingly. Their group had seen people go off on their own and had new kids join in with them, but all seemed to turn to her for guidance. Possibly it was because she provided for them the best she could, possibly because she was the oldest, and it was also accurate to assume they turned to her because she was the one with the unnatural powers. No matter the reason, Ember could only wish they’d look to someone other than herself. She had never planned to take other people under her care; she barely knew how to handle her own problems in this brand new life she’d made.
Still, someone had to do it and for the time being that was her burden to carry. Ember kept her gaze downwards as she walked, watching as her feet disturbed the puddles on the ground. Someone had to keep them out of trouble, or lessen the amount that they got themselves in, as they were sure to do. She had no idea where they were even heading; she was letting the rest lead the way.
“Yo, Em! Anyone home in there?”
Ember raised her head, startled slightly. She’d been so lost in thought, and her desire to go to sleep, that she’d missed everything said. “Huh? Oh, yeah, sorry.”
“You’re such a killjoy,” the same voice teased, belonging to a boy who was two years younger than her; she had joined with his crowd on the way to Harbor City and they’d stuck together since. The group stopped as he spoke to witness the joking. “Why not have a little fun for once?”
“Yes, wandering aimlessly through the dark should be the highlight of my day,” Ember replied, heavy implying sarcasm. “I can’t believe I didn’t come to that conclusion on my own.”
“Boring,” the boy said, shaking his head at her and smirking. “You have no sense of adventure.”
“It’s cold,” Ember answered. “and wet, and pitch black outside. And it’s supposed to start pouring again soon, need I remind you.”
There was a collective groan from the group along with various degrees of complaining. The boy took a few steps backwards with a roll of his eyes, throwing his arms out wide. “See, this is what I’m saying! You ran away from home, so just be free and quit acting so old.”
He looked at the rest of the group with a devious glint in his eye. Ember had one moment to wonder just what he was planning before she got her answer; the boy began to sing, playfully mocking her and continuing to insist that she was old. The rest of the group started to join in, singing along and clapping their hands between bursts of laughter.
“You are all horribly off key,” Ember muttered, but there was a hint of a smile on her face. As annoying as they could be sometimes, she knew their teasing was all in good fun.
The sound of wheels on pavement caused the singing to die off quickly, and Ember looked over her shoulder before turning around completely. A van had pulled up to them, and three men came out to meet them. Instantly Ember was on alert, her eyes flicking over each one of them cautiously. It was dangerous being on the street, and she’d heard plenty of the stories about kidnappers even before she’d left home. That was a situation she never imagined she’d be in.
Then again, she also never thought she’d run away at some point.
Two men came forwards with a box, and as they drew closer Ember could see they were sandwiches. The men were promising the basics; food, shelter, actual beds. Everything that the entire group struggled to find, everything they wanted. The men were offering it all in one package, and yet Ember knew better. She knew suspicious when she saw it, and these men couldn’t make it any more obvious that their intentions weren’t as pure as they made them out to be.
Most of the group looked to Ember before making a move, their gazes turning to her. The hesitance crackled between the group and the men; Ember wasn’t about to let anyone take their offer. She looked to their false saviors and said clearly, “We’re fine, we don’t need any help.”
The words had barely left her mouth before one of the younger girls was moving forwards, reaching out towards the box eagerly. Ember reacted quickly, stepping forward and grabbing the girl by the back of the shirt and tugging her back, “Alyssa, no.”
Ember looked up, locking eyes briefly with the man holding the box. In that second she decided they needed a distraction; she needed to get everyone out while they had the chance. From behind the younger girl’s back Ember flicked her hand, focusing on the box. Just like she’d hoped, the box went flying, sending sandwiches everywhere and hopefully surprising the men.
Some of the group began to scatter, understanding the need to flee. But the younger ones stared, alarmed and uncertain, and Ember pulled the girl she had a grasp on back further, taking further steps backwards.
“Go!” She called out to the kids behind her, but hung back instead of running with them. She waited for one of the men to make a move and hoped she could stop them in time.

Katherine watched as one girl in the group stepped forward and spoke for the others. Clearly she was their leader as everyone seemed to turn to her for a ok or not, it was good to see that she had some sense not to trust what these men were offering but it wouldn’t make a difference. If they tried to run the men would simply give chase, all they were going to do was make them angry and that was never good. Luckily, she was here to stop them, if not…well then this group would have been just another group of missing street kids.
The men focused on the young girl that came forward and tried to reach for a sandwich, the one with his hands free tensed as he began to move in a attempt to grab the girl.
That was it, Katt stepped onto the ledge of the building she was on and looked down ”Hey!” She yelled to get the mens attention and it worked for a moment before the box that had been in the one thugs hand went flying up into the air, spilling its contents all over the wet ground around them. Katts attention (as was everyones) was briefly drawn to the elder girl that had stepped forward and it seemed to register on everyones mind what had just happened. The girl was a meta.
With that knowledge now out in the open Katt knew she had to act fast as the men would close in on this girl since she was what they had been looking for. Leaping down from the building Hydracat landed in front of the meta teen, putting herself between the two parties, they would have to get through her first. ”I don’t think so.” She spoke to the men that had started to form a half circle around the two women. Katt looked back at Ember and nodded in the direction that the rest of her group had taken off in. ”Go.” She didn’t need any civilian hanging around, even if that civilian had meta powers.
Seeing a opening while Katt's head was turned one of the men decided to strike and he quickly closed the distance between them and swung at her face, the fist hit and she stumbled back slightly. Katt recovered just in time as the man swung again, this time she was able to block and broguht her own fist up to the mans chest which sent him flying back. That was all it took and before she knew it the rest of the thugs had swarmed in on her, looking to take her down.

All eyes on her, Ember focused on drawing the attention to herself; realizing that wasn’t too hard to do now that her abilities were out in the open. She could hear her group sprinting away, puddles splashing loudly as they trekked quickly through the rain water on the ground. They went off in multiple directions, but she was sure they’d regroup; they always found each other somehow. A yell from behind registered late in Ember’s mind, and by the time she connected that someone else had joined the scene a darkly clad woman had dropped down in front of her. Out of surprise Ember took a step backwards, startled for a second before regaining her senses. She looked over the woman’s shoulder to the men, who were attempting to surround them.
“Go,” the woman said as she looked over her shoulder at Ember. Whoever this was, she apparently knew what she was doing, and was giving Ember a way to safety.
The teen didn’t get the chance to respond (though she wasn’t sure what she was going to say in the first place) as she saw one man step fowards.
“Watch out!” Ember said, but the fist came crashing into the woman’s face. Ember started back a few steps as the costumed woman retaliated, sending one of the men down to the ground. But it wasn’t enough to ward off the rest as they came charging forwards, intending to do some damage. Ember was half turned in the direction, poised to bolt off like the woman had ordered her. She considered it for a brief moment once more, and at the last second spun to face the attackers and threw out her hands. A force field appeared around the two women, light blue in color.
“Four on one doesn’t seem like a fair fight,” Ember replied to the woman, glancing to her. She knew that her chance to run was gone, but this was a risk she was willing to take. These men had tried to kidnap her friends, and she was technically responsible for all of them. That being said, she wasn’t about to let any of them get away with the attempted crime.
Ember held the shield for a moment longer and then let it drop, focusing her energy into her hands. Pale blue light appeared in her palm, and Ember aimed for one of the men and threw out her hand, sending a blast of blue energy towards her opponent to throw him backwards and into the van. She didn’t have complete control over her powers—less control than she wanted to admit in all honesty. The attack was slightly more powerful than she had intended.
But as long as the men were stopped, it was necessary for her to use her abilities. Ember stayed behind the woman, resolving to keep out of her way; not like she knew what the stranger was capable of doing; though she had a strong punch. The teen narrowed her eyes and held her ground, prepared to strike again.

When the girl did not take her chance to run Katt tried not to groan, things was always more difficult when civilians were in the cross hairs, it wasn’t just keeping a eye on her attackers and watching herself it was adding a third party to that and that made more room for error. ”Just stay behi..” She began, telling the girl to stay behind her but stopped mid sentence when the force field came around them. ”Huh..” Katt mused having not expected to find another meta human here tonight.
Obviously these guys had been doing their homework
Katt didn’t have time to sit and think about this or ask questions, which would come later once these guys were taken care of and as soon as the force field went up Katherine waved her hands as the water on the ground gathered up and came to her. Armed with her water Katt took the chance as soon as field was dropped and fired two balls of hard water at two of the attackers which were knocked back. She was about to do the same to the third when a push of energy rushed past her and hit the man first, sending him flying back into the van. ”Nice hit” she told the girl, they had taken down nearly all of them but Katt knew the ones she hit would probably be back up in a minute or two but the guy that hit the van was probably down for the count.
There was still one goon left standing however and seeing that he was now outnumbered and out matched he turned heal and began to run back toward his van. They couldn’t allow that and Katt waved her hand again at the ground and the water under the mans feet turned to ice as he was running and he slid right into the side of the van and feel to the ground next to his partner. Now with all of the men down they needed to round them up and take them to the authorities but, Hydracat wasn’t exactly on par with the Harbor City police department as say like..Batman was with the Gotham Police so it wasn’t like she could just bring them in no problem, but that didn’t mean there weren’t other ways. ”Do you have a phone?” She asked the girl, turning to look at her as she spoke. It would sound better coming from the woman that was attacked rather than her attackers attacker.

Whoever it was that Ember was fighting beside, she knew what she was doing. The woman had to be some sort of hero; maybe this was her city. Ember had never seen her before, but she was relatively new to Harbor City, so that could have been a factor. She saw how the costumed woman took down the two thugs with apparent ease; it looked like she’d done this often.
“Thanks,” Ember nodded at the comment about her attack. Out of control powers or not, at least she’d gotten a compliment. Ember saw the last man start to run, but he didn’t get very far as the woman created ice with just a wave of her hand, sending him flying into the van as well.
Ember was impressed; the woman appeared to have a strong grasp on her abilities. It was strange to hear everything turn quieter as the battle ceased, as if the fight had taken place outside of time. The teen felt like she was caught in a dream for a moment as she glanced around at the aftermath. She realized that if no one had intervened the situation would have gotten very bad, very fast; yet she had the luck of having a hero step in to help. It wasn’t until the woman turned to her that Ember was broken out of her thoughts, looking back to the woman and regaining her composure. “Oh, right, sure.”
Patting at her pockets Ember then pulled out her phone. Luckily she’d always paid for her own phone service, so when she’d run away her parents couldn’t have cancelled that. She wasn’t sure what the woman wanted her to do at first, and then everything clicked. Call the cops, duh. Ember began dialing, but paused before hitting the call button, looking to the woman. “What do you want me to say?”
Did the woman want credit? Was Ember supposed to say there had been some hero intervention? She really didn’t know how these situations worked. As far as she had always done, it was more on terms of hit and run; disable the attacker and then get away.

While the girl was looking for her phone Katt walked over to where the two men were on the ground and picked both of them up by the collar of their shirts They might be down but they weren't out and she didn't want either of them getting up and trying to attack again once they got a hold of themselves. With one in each hand she held them up until their feet barely scrapped the ground and collided them both together, their heads knocking. The men fell limp as the impact knocked them out and Katt carried them over to the van where the last one was and dropped the two in a heap at her feet.
“What do you want me to say?”
She turned and looked back at the girl now that she had her phone "tell them you saw men attacking a woman at the Anderson docks, dont give them your name just hang up..that should buy enough time." This was going to ruin her stakeout that she had initially came here for but she would rather these men be locked up first and the police presence would scare away those looking to deal in the weapons she had come here for and give her time until a new date was set for the exchange. With the men down for the count and piled by their van Katt opened the door and began to look for anything of interest. She figured the girl would leave and really she didn't know what else to say since she wasn't the greatest people person besides, now she was on a timer. The police station was a good hike from here but that didn't mean they didn't have units in the area and Harbor City's police were pretty quick to respond.

Nodding to the woman’s reply, Ember dialed the number and called, her eyes on the unconscious men on the ground. Better that she said the right thing than make up some story that had plenty of holes and suspicions. Repeating what the woman had told her to say, Ember gave the police the information and then hung up, not wanting to have to answer any additional questions. Once that was over she looked around the area; no one had come back to investigate which was probably a good sign. Plus, no one else had wandered in on the fight, so there was likely no one else who had witnessed the attack. Ember wasn’t sure if that was good or not; she’d never gotten involved with hero politics.
“Thanks for the help,” Ember said as she pocketed her phone. It was great timing that the woman happened to be there, or else the situation could have had a very different and unpleasant ending. Now that she was safe she could have left, anyone else probably would have, but Ember was curious. Walking around the unconscious men on the ground, the girl came up behind her savior, peering at the van suspiciously. She didn’t know what she thought they would have had in there, probably nothing but an empty space to throw their victims into; that would maybe be the best scenario.
“This may be a dumb question but…who are you?” This was the first time she’d seen the woman clad in blue, and Ember kind of wanted to know if she was always hanging around Harbor City. She leaned against the side of the van, looking to her hero and waiting to see if she’d get an answer.

Katt searched the van for any clues and found a small crumpled up piece of paper with a address scribbled on it. It could be nothing but it could be everything so she took it and put the paper safely into the small pouch on her belt. Maybe that was the location where they were supposed to take the kids when they had picked them up...it wouldn't be the first time The Light had worked like this. Barely even two years ago they had done with same with The Reach. It was a tried and true method she supposed even if she doubted she would find anything when she got there. The place would probably be cleaned out. Seemed to be her luck as of late.
“Thanks for the help,”
She heard the other girl speak and turned to look at her. Now that she had her lead there was no need to stick around, she should get going to the other location but she didn't want to leave this girl here alone. It wasn't the safest part of town and if the gangs that were supposed to be here tonight (and the reason she was even here to begin with) found her the poor runaway would be thrown right back into the midst of things. 'Don't mention it. Kat said while shutting the van door.
“This may be a dumb question but…who are you?”
That caught her off guard a little. It was a question they heard a lot in the hero line of work but usually no one really stuck around long enough to answer questions. It never occurred to her either that this girl would want to know who she was but, given what had just happened and with how dry her lead well was coming up it wouldn't hurt to have a good reputation within the runaway community in case she had to come looking for information later. "You can call me Hydracat." Now that was was out of the way they had limited time for other questions and Kat had some of her own, best not to waste them. "Have you seen these men before?" Her boot lightly kicked one of the unconscious mens leg to point out the obvious. Had they been following the kids for a while or was it some kind of lucky break?

Hydracat. The name didn’t ring a bell as much as the teen tried to remember if she’d heard it before, and Ember doubted it was a highly known identity. Everyone knew names like Batman and Superman, but they were plastered all over the media. Ember hadn’t seen this hero at any point, but she supposed that worked in the woman’s favor. It was probably harder to operate in secrecy when the whole world knew a hero and wanted to see their every move. Not like Ember would really know though.
At the question of if she had seen the men before, Ember glanced between the one closest to where she stood and back to Hydracat, crossing her arms as she spoke, “There are a lot of shady men that hang around here. It’s best to not make eye contact with them.”
Seeing people like that was nothing new. Being a runaway had opened up her world to dangers that she never considered would be her problem. Creeps that hung around on street corners, people ready to mug her at any point; all scenarios that would be seen on police reports but never imagined with herself as the victim. They were just daily threats now that she had to be aware of, and luckily her powers had manifested themselves enough to be useful. Ember looked down at the men again. Initially her response was going to be no, she hadn’t seen them, but the more she looked at their faces she realized that maybe this wasn’t just a sudden and unplanned jump on the group.
“Though, these two look familiar,” Ember said as she uncrossed her arms and pointed to the two men that Hydracat had knocked their heads together. “I’ve seen them both a few times around places where runaway groups usually stay.”
She looked up from the ground and back to Hydracat, “Kids have been going missing lately. I’ve heard plenty of rumors. But it looks like they had some truth to them.”

Katherine listened to the girl explain how she tended not to make too much eye contact with the people she crossed paths with…which, was smart but also a little heart breaking, it was sad this that was the world they lived in. This girl didn’t look to be much younger than her and then all of the kids she had with her she had to have been their ‘leader’ their protector and with powers like what she had shown to have it made sense.
“Though, these two look familiar, I’ve seen them both a few times around places where runaway groups usually stay.”
Kats eyes narrowed slightly ”does anyone else know about your powers?” She wondered if this girl had been caught using them before, if somehow these guys knew she was a meta. If so that could have been why they had followed her and her group all the way out here. Or, if could have been a lucky break but if they did not know she had powers then they would now and so would who they worked for. Kat would have to get this girl somewhere safe, maybe the team would be willing to extend a invitation to her.
These men and people like them have been abducting teens, meta teens specifically but they will take whatever they can, if they know you have powers you're not safe anymore."

“Just the kids I was with,” Ember answered, “and I doubt they told anyone. I’m kind of their secret weapon.” That had been the joke for a while, Ember always there to try to save the day when any sort of scuffle or felt threatened. Try, of course, was the key word; she was rather new to using her abilities, and they were nowhere near understood. Even though this was the case, she’d done her best to keep her powers on the down-low, never flaunting them or speaking openly about what she could do. Yet, it looked like somehow people had been tipped off about her, one way or another. She looked around at the fallen men at their feet. “At least, it was a secret.”
At Hydracat’s explanation, Ember narrowed her eyes slightly with a frown. Danger was something she felt like she was constantly involved in, but this was a new type of danger, possibly more serious than the sentence sounded. There was something about kids with meta powers being hunted that was far graver and more intense than the ordinary street kid worries. “Well that’s inconvenient.”
The whole scenario seemed like something out of a movie, yet Ember was certain that she wasn’t dreaming it. If she wasn’t safe, then the kids she fostered weren’t either. There was no possibility that was she going to put them in harm’s way more than ever, which meant they all needed to get out of the public eye if that was what it took to keep them out of her odd circumstances. And she didn’t plan on being someone’s captured prize any time soon. “So what do I need to do now? Skip town, change my name, drop out of existence? I don’t exactly know how to keep my distance from them.”

None of this was adding up to something good, this girl was her responsibility now. Kat could not just let her go in good conscience because now she would have a target on her back but, there were those kids she had with her. Something told her that she wasn’t just going to leave them easily and Kat couldn’t leave them out here either. Maybe the League could help, they had ties and connections in the world, they could pull some strings and get those kids somewhere safe. A new city, a safer town…maybe Metropolis or Star City or anywhere really just not here because if those kids stayed here they were going to end up in the back of one of The Lights vans.
“So what do I need to do now? Skip town, change my name, drop out of existence? I don’t exactly know how to keep my distance from them.”
It was like she had taken the words right out of her mouth but before Kat could answer she heard sirens in the distance and they were getting closer. Well, it seemed like the police had finally made it but that also meant that she had to disappear but she was not about to leave this girl in the hands of the police. Not after what had just happened.
”I can help you but first, we need to get out of sight.” She stepped closer to the girl, this was probably going to be awkward and scare her but they didn’t have time to go anywhere else. ”Hold on.” Before any protest or question could be made Katherine grabbed the girl around the waist and flew them up to the rooftop she had been on before when she first noticed the trouble. As soon as their feet were back on solid ground she let go of the girl and guided them away from view. At least they would be safe to talk longer up here and would be out of sight.
As the police grew closer she heard other cars speed off from somewhere behind the building they were on and she sighed. Well, there went that, at least it was before the shipment was supposed to arrive so that was good at least.
But, back to her current problem. Katherine gave the girl a minute to adjust and while she did that Katt pressed the com in her ear that linked her back to the Team.
”Hydracat to Team. I have a situation that requires assistance.”
”Acknowledged” She heard a voice say on the other end, it sounded like Barbara
Katt kept it short but she explained the situation and that she would need a place to bring the girl and was told that they would contact her once arrangements had been made But now, they had to wait.

Ember raised an eyebrow as Hydracat stepped closer to her. Instinctively she took half a step backwards, maybe she was still on edge from the fight but it seemed a little odd that the woman was getting close all of a sudden. She had to have understood personal space, right? How breaking that boundary helped them get out of sight in any way, she wasn’t sure. In the next moment the question was answered as Ember found Hydracat’s arm around her waist. The teen opened her mouth to question what she was doing, however that quickly turned to a gasp and surprised, “Whoa!”
With their feet off the ground, Ember held tight to the hero as she looked down and saw them ascend farther away from the earth. That was not what she had thought Hydracat had meant, but in the scheme of things it made sense. Ember, however, did not think too much on that, just on the fact that the woman was flying and taking her up as well. As soon as they touched down on the roof Ember stumbled a little as she regained her balance, following Hydracat and managing to stop tripping over herself.
Once they were in the clear Ember straightened, brushing off her clothes as she recovered from the flight. It was a weird feeling, it almost reminded her of riding a roller coaster at an amusement park without the drops and turns; just the same strange feeling in her stomach as gravity was defied. Luckily, Ember wasn’t easily disturbed by that sensation, nor an adrenaline rush.
She listened to what Hydracat said, confused at first then realizing she was talking to someone else. Resisting a frown, Ember crossed her arms and glanced around. She wouldn’t call herself a situation, that was a little extreme wasn’t it? Or maybe Hydracat was referring to the men and that fiasco. Ember didn’t bother to listen further; she took the brief moment in time to process all that had happened in the last...twenty, thirty minutes? Time felt like a blur now.
When Hydracat finished speaking to...whoever this Team was, Ember looked back to her. “So...water powers and flight? I didn’t see that last one coming.”
Actually, she hadn't see any of what happened so far coming, but that was beside the point. Nodding to her getup, Ember added, "Been doing this a long time?"

Katt gave the girl a moment to get her bearings back, flight, teleportation, zetaing all that was a little rough the first few times and she had had a rough however long so best to give her her space for the time being. Katt waited for Barbara to get in contact with her for a available safe house she could take the girl to. Ideally she would take her to the cave but they knew nothing about her, didn’t know where she came from, who she was, what her powers were and they couldn’t have a lose canon like that just running freely through the cave.
When Barbara didn’t get back with her right away Katt sighed and turned back to look at the girl now that she had started talking.
“So...water powers and flight? I didn’t see that last one coming.”
”It’s complicated.” Kat said simply, it was the truth and that was probably a fate she just saved this girl from. It made her stomach turn to think that someone else was that close to going through what she did.
"Been doing this a long time?"
She supposed she did owe this girl some answers and it talking would be better than just sitting here in silence. Maybe she could get some useful information out of her while she was at it.
”Awhile” She never said her answers would be detailed however.
Those men, you said you’ve seen them before. Have you noticed anything else suspicious? Has anyone said anything to you about a group offering them help?” She knew that one of the lights tactics was going to street kids and offering them a place to stay, some kind of shelter, it was one of their many ways of collecting which was part of the reason why it made them so hard to track. ”have you noticed anyone you know disappear? What about other metas?” that was probably enough questions to get the ball rolling
