17. Neutral
-------------------------------------------------------------------
ALIAS(ES): Calor, the Latin word for heat, will be his codename futuristically.
BIRTHDAY: November 14th, 2000.
BIRTHPLACE: Norfolk,Virginia.
CURRENT: Blüdhaven, New York.
FAMILY:
• Mother: Marie Rivera, aged 43.
• Father: Ramsey Goldberg, aged 48.
• Sibling: Victoria Rivera, aged 12.
ALLIANCE: He's a lone wolf as of right now.
RANK: N/A.
WEAPON: None.
POWER: Cole has two powers that benefit him when necessary. The first one is infrared perception. He has the ability to, at will, visualize thermal energy, as long as it exceeds 20 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes it easier for him to locate human targets, as well as anything else containing heat. His ability is not limited by obstructive objects, however he can be blindsided if too much heat is surrounding him at once, for it would be impossible to distinguish between subjects. Another downside to this ability is the fact that it is useless against body heat camouflage.
Calor's second ability is slightly more interesting. He has the ability to increase the kinetic energy between atoms, thus creating more friction, resulting in heat. He can also control the heat that he creates, which means he can manipulate fire, but only if he ignites it. Though he has the ability to both create and control extreme temperatures, and even though he can handle the heat better than a human, Cole can still be burned, which explains his scar.
BLOOD TYPE: B+
ORIENTATION: Straight. I think that's heterosexual, but I'm not sure.
SCARS AND MARKINGS: Dark pink in color, Cole has a burn scar halfway across his back. It runs in a diagonal line from the top of his right shoulder blade downward to his left side. The line is only a couple of inches wide, though it's still noticeable against his light skin. He earned this scar during his first notable experience with his powers.
COLOR(S): Red and Black
UNIFORM: Calor doesn't have a uniform as of now, though he will have one in the future. This uniform will be mostly black, made of 50% spandex and 50% leather materials, and it will be completely fireproof. The top will be a black, form-fitting hoodie with a flaming X across the front. The collar of the uniform will be bright red, as will the cuffs and the bottom edging of the hoodie. He will have all black pants of the same material, as well as leather gloves to match. He will also have a domino mask, which will be all black aside from randomized red lines that resemble a variation of lightning strikes.
DESCRIPTION: Cole stands at the average height of 5' 11" while still only weighing 160 lbs. He has dark, brown hair that goes down to his eyebrows, drawing attention to his greatest feature, his deep brown eyes. He possesses the stature of any normal teenage boy, though he is slightly more fit.
PLAY-BY: Zachary Gordon.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fear: Cole is afraid of letting people down and never being good enough. As the man of the house, he'd tried his best to be there for his family, but now he fears that he disappointed them. He also fears that he will someday end up like his father, despite his own self control.
In a way, Cole also fears himself. His powers are dangerous, and he understands how easily things could get out of control. Every time he ignites even a spark, he fears that he will accidentally hurt someone.
Aside from that, Cole possesses a deep fear of heights and an intense, irrational fear of spiders.
Desire: In all honesty, Cole wants his family to be happy and safe. He wants everything to get better for them, because they deserve a better life.
On a lesser scale, Cole also wants to pursue his love for chemistry. It's his passion, and he wants to use it to cure himself of his powers, so that he can return to his family.
The last thing that Calor desires, like any guy his age, is a pretty girlfriend. He's simple, and there are only a few things in life that actually matter to him.
HABITS: Cole has a bad habit of biting his lip when he gets nervous. He can't lie about anything, but even if he does, his nervous habit will give him away in a moment's notice.
Another bad habit is his habit to jump head first into situations without thinking first.
Calor also tends to pace back and forth when he's worried about something, and he shuts down completely when he's sad.
When he's angry, Cole habitually keeps to himself, and avoids saying anything at all. Instead, he finds a way to release his negative energy by running or working out. He's worried that his anger will get the best of him, and that he will be just like his father.
PET PEEVE: Cole can't stand adults that act like children. He feels that people should take full responsibility of their actions and handle their own situations. It drives him crazy when they don't.
He also can't stand it when people blame their problems on other people, rather than admitting that they made a mistake, and dealing with it on their own.
Calor also gets very ticked off by people who have short tempers. He doesn't like to deal with people who stay angry all the time, and it drives him mad whenever he meets someone like that.
Last but not least, Cole absolutely dislikes any type of clicking sound, whether it be someone tapping their foot on the floor, or rhythmically beating their pencil against the desk at school.
STRENGTHS:
• Scientific Knowledge: Cole's love for science has driven him to know more about it, which helped him understand how to control his powers when he needed to.
• Powers: Though Cole tends to find his abilities more of a nuisance than anything, they are still a strength.
• Basic Self Defense Skills: Blüdhaven isn't exactly the safest town, and Cole has landed himself in street fights on more than one occasion, which has given him the basic skills he needs to defend himself without using his powers.
WEAKNESSES:
• Cold: Temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit tend to annoy Cole, but any temperature lower than 0 degrees will weaken him. Around that temperature, he has the ability to warm it up slightly, but that requires a significant amount of energy.
• Powers: Though Cole can control his abilities to a great extent, he's still figuring them out, which makes it easier for him to slip up sometimes. Another weakness is the fact that Cole would be willing to do almost anything to cure himself of his powers.
• His Family: Even after all that has happened, Cole would still take a bullet for them in a heartbeat.
TRAITS: Cole's personality is pretty cut and dry. Every person that he's ever met has influenced his personality to some degree, and that can be a good and a bad thing. Here are just a few of his traits:
• Perseverance: Whenever Cole sets his mind to something, he will carry it through completely, and he won't stop until it's finished. He has determination of the highest degree, and he will never, ever give up on anything.
• Honesty: He'll tell you what he thinks. He tries to be tactful, but whatever he says, it will be the truth.
• Stubbornness: To an extent, Cole is very hard-headed. He wants things done in the manner that he sees fit, and he won't let anyone change his mind.
• Geekiness: He's a geek. Cole is fascinated by the world around him, and he always wants to learn more about it. He would be content just studying chemicals all day long.

HISTORY: Cole Rivera was born on November 14th, 2000, to Marie Rivera and Ramsey Goldberg, two people whom didn't even know if they loved each other. The young couple had met in person almost a year earlier, only having known each other through messaging on social media. Cole was a bit of a surprise, but Marie loved her son and was excited about having her own little family. Ramsey, however, never wanted children in the first place. He felt as though kids would diminish his ability to do whatever he wanted, and he wasn't ready for that type of commitment. Despite his slight frustration, Ramsey hid his feelings from Marie, subconsciously deciding that she would pay for it futuristically.
Five short years later they had their second child, Victoria, but by then, things were already going down hill. Ramsey was becoming overbearing and manipulative. He would dramatize situations and try to control everyone in the household. As each year went by, Marie and her children felt more and more like prisoners in their own home. Ramsey was slowly getting worse, and they didn't know what to do. He had no reason to be acting the way that he was, and it seemed as though he were losing his mind.
By 2012, Ramsey was out of control. Marie had become distant from everyone, even her children, and Cole, being the only male, had taken the brunt of everything his father would dish out. All situations seemed hopeless, until Cole's 12th birthday, when they finally found some relief.
That afternoon, Cole had left with his mother and sister to go shopping. Once they returned home, Ramsey was no where to be found. Cole slowly started putting the pieces together as he walked around the house, the majority of their stuff missing. There was no note, but it was obvious that his father had left them.
It was that day, as his mother and sister cried over their loss, that Cole vowed to always protect them. He didn't understand how they could miss Ramsey after all that he'd put them through, but his heart still broke for them. He would strive to be everything that his father wasn't, he desired to be helpful and not hurtful, and most of all he wanted them to be happy. He knew that he would have to be the man of the house, so he took that responsibility upon himself, promising to be the absolute best.
The years went buy, and life was still difficult, but they finally adjusted. Ramsey had a new girlfriend and a luxurious new home, while the Riveras were still struggling to make ends meet. Cole didn't let that phase him though, because he knew that his father would never know true happiness, no matter how many material things he gained.
As life went on Cole discovered his love for both thermodynamics and chemistry. His wild fascination with energy and heat drove him to discover more about it.
By the age of sixteen, the young man had spent hours trying to invent an experiment that would test unknown chemical reactions, and at last he'd found one. Considering his family's scenario, he knew that he wouldn't be able to afford the tools he needed to execute the test, so he chose to look for more options.
Upon leaving his chemistry class one day, Cole noticed another student conversing with the teacher. No one else was in the room, and the supplies that he needed were right next to him. Without hesitation, Calor gathered the necessary equipment and shoved it into his backpack. Stealing was against his personal morals, but he couldn't resist. This was his only opportunity.
Later that evening, while his family was asleep, Cole sat in his room, combining various solutions. He had done everything correctly, and he was finally at the last step of the process. As he poured one substance into another, the receiving container spontaneously shattered, releasing the chemicals onto Cole's left hand. Shards of glass came down, cutting him as the solution spilled into his cuts. As an immediate reaction, Cole used his other hand in attempt to wipe away the excess glass. This resulted in the same effect on his right hand, and it was then that he realized just how bad things were getting.
Everything burned. It was the most surreal sensation and Cole was unsure of how to react. Within seconds, before he could even move, the burning stopped, and everything suddenly felt normal.
Confused and concerned, Cole went to the bathroom to rinse the substance off of his hands, frightened when he discovered the chemical burns that highlighted his skin. It no longer hurt, and he felt normal, but the look of his flesh was unnerving in the least.
Unsure of what to do, Cole knew he couldn't let his mother find out about this. If anyone knew that he had stolen from the school, there's no telling what would happen, and Cole didn't want his mother to have to pay for his mistake.
After trying to come up with various ways around the situation, Cole settled on researching his burns in attempt to heal himself with a home remedy. Despite his efforts, he couldn't find anything substantial, and he ended up falling asleep at the keyboard.
The next day, Cole woke up to find himself healed. At first he thought that the previous night's escapade was only a dream, but the search history on his laptop proved otherwise. The cuts remained on his hands, but the chemical burns had vanished completely. Cole didn't know how he had healed so fast, but he accepted it as a miracle, not realizing that it would be the cause of his superhuman abilities.
Two months later, Cole was sitting at the desk in his room, finishing up his homework, when he suddenly became aware of the blood rushing through his veins. It was a strange sensation that he couldn't quite identify. He could almost feel the atoms in his arms moving back and forth against each other, creating an almost painful friction.
Cole tried to ignore it at first, but soon enough he couldn't. He didn't know what was happening to him. Calor then looked up from his homework, immediately noticing the large streak of fire that had taken position on the wall next to the desk. Startled, he jumped up from his seat, turning around, prepared to run to the hallway where they kept the spare fire extinguisher. Before he could even take a step, he noticed the fire that had taken place on the other side of the room. It was climbing toward the ceiling and surrounding him. It drew closer, and Cole's eyes flickered with a light of panic, just as the fire flickered with a fierce flame, inching closer. There was no way out.
Cole continued to back away from the fire until it dawned on him that he had no where else to go. He backed into the wall, screaming in pain as the streak of fire from the wall burned him. He closed his eyes, anticipating death as his back continued to burn and he waited for the blaze to consume him. There was nothing he could do.
"Cole! What's happening?" a voice yelled. It was Victoria. Calor opened his eyes expecting to see nothing but fire, though he didn't. The flames were no longer around him. They had backed off tremendously, lingering on the other side of the room, creating massive clouds of smoke and destroying his belongings.
Cole struggled to speak, the pain from his burns invading all of his other senses. He quickly commanded Victoria to get out of the house and to get help. Their mother was at work, and they were the only ones home.
A hospital trip and a few days later, Cole was in more trouble than he'd ever been in. His mother was convinced that he had started the fire as an act of rebellion, and that it had gotten out of hand. Calor tried to explain that he didn't know why the fire had started, but his mother wouldn't hear it. The fire had destroyed his room, and he was grounded until kingdom come.
Four months passed and Cole was finally ungrounded. He stopped trying to figure out what caused the fire, and deemed it a freak accident, even though something inside him pushed to know more.
On his first day of freedom from parental punishment, Cole had another freak incident, only this time it was at school. He had somehow managed to set fire to the gym, and needless to say the teachers did not appreciate it. Another student made the false claim that he had seen Calor playing with matches earlier that day, and it put Cole in hot water immediately.
The police got involved and his mother was extremely disappointed. They couldn't prove that he had started the fire, but everyone assumed it was him. After two weeks of arguing with his mother, Cole couldn't take it anymore.
During the final heated converse, things got a little out of hand, and they both said things that they didn't mean. By the end of it, Marie made the statement that Cole was a threat to their family, and Calor sarcastically responded that maybe he shouldn't live with them anymore. It was then that Marie mentioned that it wouldn't be such a bad idea if he didn't live with them. That hurt Cole tremendously, but being hardheaded as he is, he decided that he should just go.
He began packing his things that night, a mixture of anger and sadness clouding his thoughts. His sister begged him not to go, but he knew he had to. Things had been blown way out of proportion, but he didn't want to stay where he wasn't wanted. They didn't need him anyway.
He left without saying another word to his mother. Instead, he got on the first bus to New York and never looked back.
It's now been two months since he left his family, and not once have they tried to contact him, though he doesn't know why. Calor called them at one point, only to find that Ramsey had come crawling back into their lives after Cole had left. It was sickening that his mother would want Ramsey back, and it hurt to an extent. Cole felt as though he was the reason his father had left them, and that his mother had chosen his dad over him. Instead of getting upset, Calor decided to swallow his feelings. He had other things to worry about.
Since he left, Cole has been completely and totally unsuccessful in the employment department, and he's had to rely on stealing for survival. He tries to avoid it as much as he can, but at the end of the day, he's willing to do what it takes to stay alive.
In fact, he's discovered his superhuman abilities, though he still doesn't realize how he got them. He is fairly good at controlling his powers, though he's still had a few slip ups with them. He's been using these powers to steal food and other necessities when necessary. He would never hurt anyone on purpose, but he sometimes starts a fire in order to evacuate a grocery store. While he's there, he takes what he needs, and then diminishes his flames.
Now he lives in an abandoned warehouse in Blüdhaven, still trying to find a job so that he won't have to keep stealing from everyone. He misses his family tremendously, but he won't go back as long as his father is there. He doesn't know who he is or what he is supposed to be, and he's still trying to figure out what to do with the circumstances that life has given him.

NAME: Angel, Peace, call me anything but late for supper
EXPERIENCE: Off and on for a year. Roughly five months if I added up all of the time I spent actually roleplaying
CONTACT: Via PM or email
HOW'D YOU FIND US? A year ago my sister found this site
RP SAMPLE: Cole paced back and forth inside of the abandoned warehouse in which he took shelter. He could hear the resonance of the rain pouring down outside, and he dreaded going out into it.
The warehouse was small, though it left plenty of room for Cole to reside inside. Cobwebs occupied the spaces between the wooden beams on the ceiling, and the floor creaked with any ounce of pressure, but the young man was still thankful to have somewhere to stay.
It had been two months since his mother had kicked him out, and he was just trying to survive. He had been stealing food whenever he absolutely had to, but yet again he was running low.
When he'd left home, he thought that it was all for the best, but he soon regretted the whole situation. He desired to go back, but they didn't want him, and he knew that. He needed to persevere.
Sighing, Cole opened the back door of the warehouse, stepping out into the pouring rain. He wanted to make this as quick as possible.
With a fast pace, Calor made his way down the street, quickly approaching a nearby store. He didn't like stealing, but sometimes he just had to. He'd been trying to get a job for ages, and even there no one wanted him.
Stepping inside the store, Cole was immediately aware that something was very wrong. Everyone stood frozen, appearing completely petrified.
Cole furrowed his eyebrows, before realizing what was happening. The store was in the middle of an armed robbery, and he'd just walked in on it.
There were three men as far as Cole could see. They were all wearing black attire and ski masks while holding guns.
There were also three groups of hostages. Two or three people were being held at gun point by the cash register, and they all appeared to be employees. A few customers were lined up at the back of the store, also being held at gun point, while more customers were being held in between the aisles. It wasn't looking good.
"Hey, you!"
Eyes wide, Cole watched as one of the armed men aimed a weapon at him, motioning for him to enter the store further. Cole couldn't decide if it would be safer to run or stay, but he didn't want to risk getting shot, so he took a step forward.
"Get back there, now." The robber pointed in the direction of the back of the store, and Cole obeyed him instantaneously, trying to think of a way out of this.
Silently, Calor sat down next to one of the hostages, occupying the space between the final hostage and the wall, as one of the goons glared at him.
"Nobody move or you're getting shot," the masked man yelled.
Cole rolled his eyes in response, managing to see a breaker box in his peripheral vision as he did. It was then that an idea struck him.
He hated using his powers, especially when people were so close to him, but this time he saw no choice. If he could start a fire, everyone would have to evacuate, and the police could handle the situation. The innocent people would be safe, and no one would accuse him for starting the fire if they assumed it was an electrical problem. His plan was perfect, he just had to keep the fire under control.
Cole took a deep breath, focusing on what he had just seen, commanding the kinetic energy between the atoms in the circuits to increase. As the friction in the atoms grew greater, the circuits became hotter, and suddenly sparks started spewing from the box.
Cole smirked to himself. Success.
"What's happening?" the hostage next to him asked, noticing the sparks.
Everyone held their breath as they watched the breaker box spew the beginnings of a bad situation. Cole then intensified his concentration, he wanted flames.
With a moment's notice, fire started reaching out from the electrical box, causing people to move toward the other side of the store in an extreme panic.
Before Cole could realize it, the flames began growing at a fast pace in every direction. Things were getting out of hand.
Once Calor noticed, it was too late. Smoke filled the room and it was hard to see. The culprit of the blazing chaos tried to calm himself down in order to control what was happening, but he couldn't. It was too much for him. He diminished a couple of patches, but it wasn't helping much.
"Dang it."
It was then that he realized the situation was dire. Fire blocked the only exit of the store, and people feared for their lives. Cole could do nothing but pray for a miracle. No one in that building deserved to die, not even the robbers.
ANYTHING ELSE? Thanks!
