December 8th 2017 17:42 Metropolis
Within driving distance from Gotham it had been said, well running distance if you were a speedster. Metropolis, a city Bart had never been to until now. It all seemed a lot bigger and grander than what he was expecting but there was no time to stop and sight see, he left Central City over twenty four hours ago and was supposed to be back five hours ago but got very side tracked, although now back on his way home, he would be there in a matter of minutes if he was lucky.
Bart had nearly gotten to the outskirts when he heard cries for help from what appeared to be civilians, and of course this was Superman’s city so he assumed the Man of Steel would already be at the scene, saving the day. But when the noise grew closer and the commotion came into sight, it was apparent that there wasn’t anyone there helping, not yet at least, so he knew there was only one option and suddenly changed course, taking a sharp left down the high street and skidding to a halt at the end.
People stood in the streets, panicking as they pointed in horror to the massive building before them which stood at least thirty storeys high. By the billowing smoke coming from about mid-way, it was clear there was a fire on one of the higher floors. Like most modern sky scrapers, much of the walls were windows which offered very little traction for the speedster who decided he’d have to use the old fashioned stairs. Depending on the nature of the fire, depended on whether Bart had the ability to stop it or not. If not, he could at least get people out faster.
Racing up to the thirteenth floor, Kid Flash began taking people back down to street level one at a time. The fire was far beyond his control, it had spread to the walls and ceiling and it didn’t look like an accident. By the time he had reached the last person, he was beyond exhausted having just essentially carried thirty individuals in a matter of minutes. “Go ahead, run, I’ll catch you up.” He said breathlessly to the woman as he rushed around the floor, making sure no one was left behind. Bart had just stepped on the stairs when the ceiling above them crumpled and fell beneath its own weight in a fiery mess.
And apparently this was why this city had Superman, sometimes a super speed hero just didn't cut it, well unless he came with super strength, heat vision and the whole package really. Clearly there were some situations better suited to certain heroes, although Superman could apparently handle any. But after all he was Superman.
The floors above were caving in and there was no way to get down to the floor below. He walked to the window, far too tired to run, and glanced out of it at the floor below. There was no traction on the glass, right, of course. He glanced around the floor he was on again, there wasn’t exactly an overwhelming choice of options. “Ah erm… I’m moded.” He muttered to himself. Bart collapsed against a wall, breathing heavily, how long had it been since he had last eaten? It didn’t matter, it was too late for that now. Best to save his strength for an escape. Once he got his strength back, he would be able to vibrate through the wall, well if the fire didn't consume it by then.

It was nearing 8 in the evening as Superman flew back towards Metropolis from his home away home: The Fortress of Solitude. He'd spent some time researching possible ways to restore the shrunken Kryptonian city of Kandor back to normal size. Sadly, though, the famed Man of Steel was still unsuccessful. Kal El used his machine that he did have to shrink down and inform the leaders of Kandor on his failure. He swore that he would not give up on them. It was then Superman had departed back to Metropolis.
The Man of Steel entered into air space where he could hear the screaming sirens atop the fire trucks rushing to a call. It would be so easy to ignore it, let those true heroes do their jobs, but that wasn't him! He banked left and zoomed towards the burning skyrise. Superman lightly touching down as the firemen were hooking up their hoses.
Chief, what's the situation?
Superman?! Boy are we glad to see you here!
A real look of concern crossed the Kryptonian's face now. The fire chief seemed very distressed about something.
Witnesses have reported that before we arrived the Kid Flash was on the scene. It seems that he saved a good thirty people already. Everyone had already been evacuated down to the bottom thirteen floors. There's still one person unaccounted for, not to mention Kid Flash! He raced back in, reportedly looking tired somehow, and hasn't been seen in minutes.
Superman struggled to contain a look of horror. The loss of the previous Kid Flash, the beloved Wally West, was still felt hard by the Team and Justice League. The thought of losing Bart was too much to bear. It was something Superman would not allow to happen.
Thanks chief! I'll save them. You get everyone back to a safe distance, it looks like the building may crash at any moment. I'll do my best to save it too.
The fire chief nodded and then started having his men do as requested. Superman looked at the building and began to scan it with his famed x-ray vision. He carefully checked each floor. Finally on the 13th he saw the two missing people; Kid Flash and the unaccounted-for woman. There was a gust of wind as Superman zoomed through the lobby and up the elevator shaft. At the 13th floor he stopped and pried the doors open.
Superman hovered above the floor as he entered the area. Taking in a deep breath, Superman exhaled and blew out the flames that were on this floor. He looked toward where Bart and the woman had been, calling out.
Kid Flash! Are you ok?

It wasn’t like it was unexpected for Superman to drop in, this was his city after all. But what was surprising was the way he just blew out the flames like a candle. Bart sat in awe for a moment but snapped out of it when he heard his name.
“Who? Me?” he asked breathlessly, mentally slapping himself at the stupidity of his question. There were only three people here and he highly doubted that woman was called Kid Flash. “I’m great, never better.” Bart said with a smile as he pushed himself up off the floor and dusted himself off. “Just a couple more minutes and I woulda been out of here.” He hesitated before justifying himself. “Not that you totally didn’t just help, I mean… thanks.” He said defensively.
Well the fire totally felt the mode, but so did he. Running low on energy was hard when you had to play the part of a vivacious speedster, it made him feel more like himself and that wasn’t great. Still, he did his best to act cool.
“Sorry I wasted your evening, Mr Superman, sir. If you could not tell Barry I was here, that would be great.” He said, approaching Superman. The last thing he needed was a lecture from Barry about his little adventure, but Barry wasn’t stupid and he probably already knew where Bart had been, or even where he was, and if he did he could be there in a matter of minutes if he wanted to. But apparently Bart had to learn his own lessons.
Speaking of lessons, he had totally forgotten that today was a school day and he’d spent all morning in Gotham. It didn’t matter what he said now, Barry would totally be on his case for this.
Bart looked at his wrist where there should’ve been a watch but there wasn’t. “Oh I have to go before they file a missing person’s report or something.” He said before suddenly jolting into speed but then stopping again only feet later. No energy meant no speed, right. Not to mention there wasn’t even a clear way out that wasn’t down the elevator shaft.
“Aw man I wish I could fly like you.” He said, breathless after his attempt to run. Then again, having Bart fly would probably be much worse than allowing him to run fast, at least that way he was limited to the ground… mostly.

After asking Kid Flash if he was alright Superman waited for a response. The way that the young hero from the future looked at him had the Man of Steel a little worried. Perhaps the reason Bart hadn't gotten himself and the woman to safety was because he was injured. Possibly concussed with the look upon his face. Then finally the speedster replied.
“Who? Me?”
Due to the lack of anyone else around here to possibly go by the name Kid Flash? Maybe the possibility of a concussion should be put back on the table...
“I’m great, never better. Just a couple more minutes and I woulda been out of here.”
Superman arched an eyebrow as Bart had hesitated.
“Not that you totally didn’t just help, I mean… thanks.”
You're welcome.
Came the response from Superman. Now the young man was sounding like himself.
“Sorry I wasted your evening, Mr Superman, sir. If you could not tell Barry I was here, that would be great.”
Not a wasted evening at all Kid Flash. Saving lives in Metropolis is what I do.
There was a light-hearted tone in Superman's words. He then leaned towards KF and whispered in response about telling Barry.
I never lie, but I won't tell if I'm not asked.
A wink offered as Superman made the best promise he could. Though it was true that in all likelihood Barry already knew, or at least had an idea.
Suddenly it was like the young man realized he was late for an important meeting. Kid Flash announced he needed to be leaving before a missing person's report was filed. It seemed like the youth tried to take off at super speed, but just a few feet away he stopped seemingly out of breath. Hmm. Barry and Wally's appetites were infamous among the Justice League and Team. Though as many calories as their bodies burned through when they hit super speed it was understandable. So it was, in appearance to Superman, Bart had burned through his latest meal of astronomical calorie count.
“Aw man I wish I could fly like you.”
Superman chuckled. He then tilted his head slightly. The woman was seeming a lil impatient, ready to get out of the building to safety. Couldn't blame her really.
Speaking of flying, I think its time we got out of here. Kid, Ma'am, if you'll hold onto me. I'll fly us out of here in a jiffy.
The woman was quick to rush to Superman. He put an arm around her as she wrapped hers around his neck. Looking back at Kid Flash now Superman held out his free arm.
