-------------------------------------------------------------------
ALIAS(ES): Miss Martian, Miss M, Megan Morse
BIRTHDAY: July 4, 1999 (Human equivalent)
BIRTHPLACE: Mars
CURRENT: Where ever The Team is at
FAMILY:
• Mother: deceased
• Father: deceased
• Siblings: deceased
• Uncle: J’onn J’onzz
ALLIANCE: The Team
RANK: Member of The Team
WEAPON:
Bio-ship - M'gann has an advanced spacecraft that she uses to fly Young Justice members to and from their destinations. It has at least three types of modes: Resting, Active, and Camouflage. It is highly reactive to her mental commands and she is able to relinquish manual control to others on the team to fly or use.
POWERS:
• Martian Physiology: As a White Martian, M'gann inherently has the following abilities:
• Extrasensory Input: Martian's have nine different senses this gives M'gann a stronger more heightened perception of the environment around her.
• Martian Vision: As a Martian, M'gann's vision goes beyond the human visible spectrum and acuity allowing sharper sight and an ability to see through most objects or obstacles very much like Kryptonian vision. Martian vision also possesses a form of heat vision which causes things to combust or explode with beams that come out of their eyes.
• Limited Invulnerability: With the exception to fire, M'gann's body is invulnerable to most physical attacks due to her ability to shift as well as increase the density of their molecular structure.
• Malleable Form: M'gann possesses mental control over their physical form right down to the molecular level, allowing her to manipulate her physical structure to elongate limbs, grow in immense size, change her blood type etc. This also gives her the ability to change the substance and material form she is made out of to allow her to produce weapons and clothing of various types. She can maintain these selected forms for an indeterminate amount of time without seemingly any undue risk or strain.
• Intangibility / Tangibility: M'gann has the ability to decrease her molecular density to become incorporeal, able to pass through solid objects, as well as increase it to become tougher and stronger.
• Invisibility: M'gann is also able to bend light waves around her body, rendering her invisible to most forms of human detection. She can even avoid detection from most electronic devices by altering her body's temperature etc.
• Size Alteration: As part of her shape-shifting ability M'gann is able to alter her size.
• Regeneration: M'gann has the ability to rapidly heal her wounds, from minor cuts to re-growing lost limbs. This includes the re-growth of major body parts such as the head, heart, or similar primary organs.
• Self-Sustenance: Martian physiology negates the need to consume food or drink so M'gann does not have to eat or drink to survive.
• Superhuman Speed: Both in flight or natural movement, M'gann, like other Martians possesses inhuman speed and reflexes. Though not faster than Kryptonians, she can keep up with their speed.
• Superhuman Agility: M'gann's superhuman speed also grants her an agility that far exceeds the human ability and into the superhuman levels.
• Superhuman Reflexes: Through her superhuman speed, M'gann's reflexes are enhanced to superhuman levels
• Superhuman Endurance: M'gann`s endurance is just as formidable as her strength or invulnerability. When not in the presence of fire, she can operate under extreme conditions for an indeterminate period of time showing little signs of fatigue. However when in the presence of fire, this endurance diminishes greatly.
• Superhuman Strength: M'gann ranks in the same strength level as a Kryptonian under a yellow sun of a similar gender and age.
• Flight: M'gann is Psionic based and works very much like tactile telekinetic flight meaning that she is able fly by sheer force of her will.
• Telekinesis: Megan has used telekinesis to manipulate many objects with her mind. However, she can lose control when moving too many objects at once or not paying enough attention
• Telepathy: M'gann has the ability to read the minds of others and project her thoughts and will to varying degrees. She can even open up a telepathic link for communication with several different people at once as well as translating psychically various languages so that everyone understands one another. She can also project her mental essence into a gestalt community known as the "Great Mind" which all Martians are able to do. Through this, the community can enhance the telepathic strength of other Martians around her. This power can also enable her to reverse the effects of amnesia or psychological brainwashing. A Martian's expertise with telepathy varies from Martian to Martian. Some Martians, can use their ability with such precision that they can extract repressed memories from a subject regardless of how dormant the memory may lie. M'gann on the other hand is still a young White Martian and as such does not possess the same precision. As she is yet untrained, attempting the above mentioned feat risks her target falling into a catatonic state for a short period of time.
• Mind Control: As an extension of her telepathic powers, M'gann can also use the ability to alter a subject's psychological profile, enabling her to manipulate, and in some cases, outright control her chosen target. This practice is rarely used by M'gann. (NB: This ability will not be used on any played characters unless requested by that character's player for plot purposes).

BLOOD TYPE: Martian (universal donor; is able to shift to any blood type)
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
MENTOR: Martian Manhunter
SCARS AND MARKINGS: none
COLOR(S): Black, Red & Blue
UNIFORM:
M'gann wears a type of organic clothing that can change size, shape and colour in response to her mental commands. It can also shift in unison her invisibility, going transparent just as her body does. Her organic clothing also phases with M’gann going intangible just as her body does. Her uniform that is a derivation of her mentor, the Martian Manhunter's costume. It consists of the similar purplish blue colour for her cloak though her cloak also has a hooded cowl she has been known to pull over her head. Beneath the cloak is a form fitted black suit, a large red belt that drapes her slender waist and the same x-shaped straps from her old costume that criss-cross her chest and back.
DESCRIPTION:
As a shape-shifter M’gann can take the form and appearance of anything, however there are two forms she is commonly known to take and a third that is her actual form.
White Martian Form - In in her true Martian state, M’gann appears as a frightening seven-foot-tall, thin humanoid creature with pale skin, oval skull, long limbs, a hunchback, claws, sharp teeth, and red feral looking eyes. This appearance is rarely scene or used by M’gann as it is not a form that most would be comfortable with for the Humans would be frightened and the negative perception of White Martians as feral killers, M’gann does not readily take this form. However this form is where her telepathy and telekinesis is the strongest.
Miss Martian Form – As a member of the Team and one that the public perceives as Martian Manhunter’s niece, is Miss Martian. M’gann chose a more acceptable form as her public persona. Aware that the general populous would not be as accepting of her true form, M’gann chose to take the form of a slender green skinned Human looking teenaged girl with long red hair, bright amber eyes and freckles. Her costume was once very much inspired by her cheerleading days; short blue skirt, white fitted shirt with a red X that crossed the front and caped with a purplish blue cloak. Her style has since changed and since returning to the Team, M’gann has chosen a uniform that is a derivation of her mentor, the Martian Manhunter's costume.
Megan Morse – M’gann’s alter-ego ‘Megan Morse’ was fashioned after a character from the television sitcom Hello Megan. As Megan Morse, M’gann has long orangey-red hair that she wears down and unadorned; normally in unruly waves or long straight tresses. She has a peaches and cream complexion with a bright fun loving, friendly smile and vibrant amber eyes. She is tall, willowy and lithe possessing more of a dancer’s build; lean and toned but not overly muscular. She has an eclectic style of dressing that seems to consist various layers and mix of textiles. M’gann has also taken a fascination to hats lately and is often sporting one when out and about the city.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fear: Fire. Martians are severely weakened by fire much like the way Kryptonians react to Kryptonite. Because of that M’gann is pyrophobic. She also fears losing people she cares about and disappointing her uncle who she holds the highest regard for.
Desire: M’gann desires to be a useful member of the Team and looks once more for their acceptance and forgiveness. She also has a strong desire to break the universal stereotype of White Martians being ruthless killers. Megan also has a strong desire to make her uncle/mentor Martian Manhunter proud.
HABITS:
• When nervous or flustered M’gann tends to talk very fast, often going off on strange nonsensical tangents that often only make sense to her (unless you can follow her fast talking train of thoughts. She also tends to cite and reference television shows a lot.
• M’gann is extremely social, warm and friendly so she has the habit of wanting to be friends with everyone. She’s also altruistic and so has a soft-spot for the downtrodden and a desire to want to help people. She has a habit of trying to help before even being asked to.
• She also has a tendency to bite her lower lip when worried.
PET PEEVE:
•Bullies. M’gann just doesn’t like them. She doesn’t like seeing people take advantage of others.
•She is annoyed by shallow, vain people that base their decisions / judgement of others on how a person looks.
STRENGTHS:
• Kind hearted / Compassionate – M’gann is warm and friendly, often going out of her way to make people feel welcome and accepted. Her compassion makes her also very thoughtful; she never forgets a birthday and is known to send cards and gifts to her friends even when she was away.
• Altruistic – M’gann’s kind heartedness extends to her desire to help people and often goes out of her way to help those in need, not just from stopping crime but volunteering at city missions, shelters and half-way houses. She has a soft-spot for the homeless and those that live on the streets.
• Focused – M’gann is a determined individual, and if there is something that needs to get done, she does not lose sight of the objective and does everything in her power to make get results.
• Acrobatics – M’gann is actually a natural athlete making the stunts and acrobatics performed as a cheerleader come easy to her.
• Exceptional Telepathic potential – According to her uncle J’onn J’onzz, M’gann possesses one of the most powerful telepathic minds he has ever encountered and her potential far exceeds his own abilities.
• Cooking – M’gann has gotten much better in her abilities in the kitchen and is comfortable with making well cooked meals.
• Hand to hand combat: Like all of the original members of the team, M’gann received hand to hand training from Black Canary.
WEAKNESSES:
• Fire – Like Kryptonite to Kryptonians, fire weakens Martians and can be deadly to them if exposed for too long to the fires.
• Pyrophobia – Because fire is so deadly and weakening for her, M’gann fears large open flames.
• Naive – M’gann’s penchant to aid those in need can lead her to sometimes be taken advantage of. She is also still a teen and therefore does lack worldly experience that some people can take advantage of.
• Inexperience – M’gann is still a teen regardless of all the abilities she has, she still has a lot to learn. She might be adept enough to use her powers but that doesn’t mean she can’t be out maneuvered or out done my more experienced people with the same power-sets as her.
• Extreme Pressure – Martian physiology is susceptible to pressure therefore when she went to Atlantis, the underwater pressure caused her to shrink in size.
• Sensitive - M'gann is quite sensitive and it pains her if someone says or thinks something negative about her.
• Confidence – M’gann still doubts her ability to control her growing powers making her at times hesitant to use her abilities to the fullest.
TRAITS:
M'gann is a warm and compassionate girl with an altruistic heart and a friendly personality. She is welcoming and accommodating trying hard to make people around her feel comfortable and at ease. She is vibrant and social and will talk to just about anyone, even total strangers she is not afraid to strike up a conversation with. She likes making friends and meeting new people. She is generous and considerate always trying to help people out if she sees they need it; they don't even have to ask. M'gann is the type of person that bakes cookies for the new arrivals, shows the new kid around school or throws surprise birthday parties for friends. She is thoughtful, patient and caring however if pushed too far she does have an anger that when it rages is hard for her to hold back.
Secretly, M'gann struggles internally with her White Martian's primal side. She tries to curb that side of her and is eager to prove to the world that she is not a dangerous killer like her kind is said to be and it is perhaps because of this that she goes out of her way to be kind to people as if in some way she is trying to make up for what she sees is the shortcomings of her race or show they aren't all the same. M'gann does hide the fact that she is a White Martian as she is afraid others would fear and judge her on her kind's reputation for brutality. M'gann is also quite sensitive and it pains her if someone says or thinks something negative about her. Having a sense of belonging is important to her and so she goes out of her way to make people feel welcome of part of the group be it the team or her cheerleading squad.
Having a strong and clearly defined sense of justice, right and wrong are clear cut to her. She is guided by her own moral compass which at times steers her into the category of morally grey. At one point she did not have an issue with ripping information from a villain's mind rendering them in a catatonic state if it means the information could save innocent lives. In some ways her White Martian side shows through in instances like these where with her more visceral feelings bubble to the surface. She might have compassion for her friends and the innocent but she seems to lose it for those she perceives to be a villain.
Although the first to offer to help out those needing it, M'gann is the last to seek help from others. She sees it as something she must tackle herself and does not want to burden others and get them involved. This attribute can cause her to take on more than she can and close herself off to others if she's having trouble dealing a perfect example of this was when she hit the equivalent of a Martian puberty and her abilities started going on the fritz. Rather than tell someone she tried to solve it on her own which ended up being too much for her to handle and her uncle had to step in.
The recent changes in her have caused her to lose a bit of the confidence she once had in herself and she is at the moment trying to rebuild that confidence. Because some of her new abilities are affected by her emotions M'gann has toned down her bubbly nature and appears more reserved. This doesn't mean she is stand offish or doesn't smile, she is still warm and friendly she is just less exuberant more focussed and less scattered than she was before she left for Chicago a year ago.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
HISTORY:
M'gann was a product of a war torn planet, plagued by strife and hatred between the Green Martians and the White. With the Martian Holocaust looming and her parents fearing the destruction of both races her parents decided to send their daughter away to Vega, in hopes that she would survive the death and violence. M'gann's shuttle was struck by suppression fire as it was leaving Mars’ orbit and therefore crash landed on Earth instead, near a Checkmate facility where she was found by some of the organization's agents.
Her ship was confiscated and M'gann was taken to the facility where she was held captive, studied and experimented on. Her handler during this time was Dr. Faraday who M'gann formed a bond with after consoling him when she learned the death of his daughter. Of all her human captors Dr. Faraday was the kindest and in many ways raised her since she spent a few years of her Martian childhood in captivity.
Growing more attached to the little Martian, Faraday started to devise a plan to get the young Martian out of facility. He had secretly made contact with Martian Manhunter and got him word that there was a young Martian girl held captive in Checkmate Headquarters however J'onn did not get there on time. An attack on Checkmate HQ had taken parts of the building down and M'gann and Dr. Faraday were trapped beneath the facility in the very cell where M'gann was imprisoned. Dr. Faraday was killed trying to save her and the young Martian was forced into the world of humans on her own with only the barest of knowledge about it. Taking the picture of Faraday's daughter, M'gann imaged herself into the likeness of the dead girl.
Out in the real world and on the street M'gann found herself encountering the darker side of things. It was a scary and large world out there, one she had not been prepared for and one that brought out the more visceral side of her. But not all humans were evil and M'gann managed to befriend a few street kids and homeless people who helped her as she lived on the streets for a short time until she was captured once more. This time it was not a government entity but rather another group known as the Dark Side Club. It was there M'gann was forced to fight in fighting rings to the death. This environment fed into her White Martian side that reveled in the battle and she was then given the name Star Spangled Kid as a pit fighter. However during the course of her captivity she manages to break out of the mental hold the Clock King had on her and came to realize how the captives were all mentally manipulated to fight. M'gann then puts an end to it using her ability to break the Clock King's hold on the other fighters causing a rebellion that brought down the Dark Side Club. It was then she crossed paths with Martian Manhunter who had been searching for her. Instinctively reacting to the presence of a green Martian, M'gann attacked first until J'onn had made her realize that he wasn't out to kill her he was looking to help her. It was during their telepathic link that they both realized she was a relation of J'onn. The green Martian was her uncle. He had only seen M'gann when she was still a baby, but since then he had been on earth and had not seen his family since, but M'gann's memories of her mother (J'onn's sister) was what clued them both in on their relations.
From there J'onn took M'gann in as his protégé where she spent the rest of her time training and learning more of Earth customs. In many ways even though she is a Martian, M'gann had a lot to learn in terms of her own abilities and since she had grown up with abilities mostly instinctive and unrefined due to her upbringing in Checkmate and the Dark Side Club she lacked the control and precision that formal training would have given her had her parents been around to teach her, so she had to learn that control now with J’onn. But aside from honing her abilities and training, J'onn also had M'gann instructed on Earth customs and culture and even had her watching some television so she could see how Earthlings interacted, that was how she stumbled across an old sitcom; Hello Megan.
Immediately M'gann took to that series. She related to the main character Megan and loved how all her problems were solved in 22 minutes. There was something about the show and the lead character that M'gann could relate to and so many similarities between her and the lead character that M'gann took on the look and persona of Megan from the show. As time passed, M'gann grew closer and closer to J'onn and she started to see him as a sort of father figure. She had great respect for him and strove to make him proud of her so she worked hard, trained hard and did as he instructed. To pay homage to their relation M'gann also decided to keep her skin green like her uncle. She may look like Megan from the TV series but she chose to make her skin decidedly green.
When she was finally brought in to Mount Justice, J'onn introduced her as his niece. M'gann's indoctrination into the team was a little rocky at the start. She had difficulty at first with her new surroundings as more casual or social interactions with Earthlings were much different from what she was used to on Mars or even living with her uncle. Sure she had the TV shows to go off of but they only went so far in what she could learn from them. For instance, Telepathic speech was very much a part of Martian life and having lived with her uncle the last few years training made her forget that it wasn't so common with humans or Kryptonians as she quickly learned when she attempted to speak telepathically to her teammates only which angered some at her intrusion. She didn't realize telepathic communication was considered by others as a breach of privacy or that it would illicit such a strong negative response in some. It was a harsh lesson but one that M'gann learned quickly from.
Her first team mission didn't go off so well either. Feeling the stress of needing to fit into a team where already one member did not seem to like her or trust her due to being a telepath and more uncertain as to what she can and can't do with her telepathic abilities, the first mission had M'gann holding back a bit and unsure of herself, she even made a rookie mistake that cost the Team their success allowing the villain Twister to get away. She had been trying so hard not to offend anyone again and be a useful part of the team she lost focus. She did however redeem herself next time when she showed the value of her telepathy by opening up a telepathic link for all to use as a secure line of communication between them and in doing this the team was able to coordinate their strikes and take Twister down. Her telepathy even tipped her off on Twister being nothing but a robot which made destroying it more palpable.

In time M'gann proved her usefulness to the team and managed to gain their trust and befriend them all; even the most reluctant of them eventually came around to accepting her. She had started going to high school acclimatizing herself with the social aspect of human interaction calling herself Megan Morse. She adapted fairly well in high school even managing to land herself a spot on the cheerleading squad. During this time she was exploring a 'normal' teenaged girl's life in and amongst learning to be a 'hero', training and going on missions with the Team. She even tried her hand at dating which she quickly learned was not as easy as the TV shows made it out to be and the heartbreak of a break up never really did it justice on screen either. There was never any real answers on what to do or how to cope and the shows definitely didn't prepare her for what it felt like and it certainly took longer than 22 minutes to get over.
From then on M'gann focussed more on training and honing her current abilities but as her teenaged Martian body was developing and changing so too were her abilities. It was in some ways scary to her and her inability to ask for help made M'gann close in more. She was still kind and caring but she just seemed to be less cheerful and more reserved. Some thought it was her break up that did that and while that did hurt her a lot that wasn't the reason for her drawing in to herself and being less bubbly and social. Her teenaged Martian form was undergoing changes and she feared discovery of her sudden lack of control and losing her spot on the team which had become more of a family to her. She had worked so hard to gain the trust and friendship of the Team and coming off a recent break up, she did not want to lose her friends too.
When the Team took part in a telepathic training simulation led by J'onn, it had gone all wrong when M'gann's growing telepathic ability subconsciously took control of the simulation. M'gann was riddled with guilt and fear even her telepathy was getting away from her. M'gann reluctantly admitted in a therapy session following the training incident that she was uncomfortable with her abilities but she never fully admitted to what was actually happening within her. She was changing somehow but didn't want to burden anyone or scare them. She figured she could handle it, but it didn't just stop at her telepathy going on the fritz, she started 'seeing' things in her visual spectrum or at times see through things; at one point in class she thought she was hallucinating. M'gann even found herself at one point phasing through things and unable to solidify herself and on another instance while in her room upset she had inadvertently caused her mirror to shatter and break from beams that came out of her eyes when she glared at her own reflection. These anomalies in her abilities and the other strange and freaky events caused her to pull away from everyone even more as she tried to get a handle on things. She made excuses to distance herself like being busy with Cheerleading practice or homework or training basically anything that kept her interaction with the Team at a minimum and there would be days that M'gann never surfaced from her room while she tried to get a handle on the weird things happening to her. Her strange behaviour did not go unnoticed and word got to her uncle and J'onn figured out fairly quickly what was happening with his niece and helped M'gann through her difficult transition.
During this time M'gann moved back in with her uncle in Chicago so she would not be a danger to her teammates while she underwent some of the changes not to mention she could be instructed and watched more closely by her uncle if she lived with him. Eventually she started to get a handle on her new abilities and the changes to her. Her telepathy had increased in strength to allow her to even control the minds of others though she is not keen on using this ability but at least it is now at a manageable point that she can control this aspect of her telepathy. Initially this new manifestation of her telepathy had her controlling others without even realizing she was making them agreeable to her requests. Her uncle J'onn though had taught her techniques of control to master not broadcasting her will and keep her emotions in check which is paramount to the successful use of her telepathy. The beams from her eyes and the various spectrums of vision she now had to deal with were more manageable with the techniques her uncle taught her so that she had these aspects of her ability under control as well. And the sporadic phasing was actually an aspect of her density control which again her uncle had shown her advanced techniques to control the phasing so that it happened upon command and not just triggered randomly by emotions. Aside from now being able to phase through objects, the advanced techniques of density shifting her uncle showed her also could be used to go in the opposite spectrum making her invulnerable to most attacks but not all.

When M'gann had first returned to the Team the usually overly talkative and bubbly Miss Martian seemed more serious and subdued; more controlled. She split her time between the Team and being with her uncle in Chicago to continue her training and report to him anything thing that happened with regards to her new abilities. If she had her way though, M'gann would have avoided doing any missions at all until she felt she was 100% ready and not a danger, but J'onn pushed for it because he believed she had control of her new abilities, she simply needed to regain her confidence.
It was harder for M’gann when her uncle along with the other Justice League members headed out to Rimbor to stand trial for their actions. Without her uncle’s help to center and control her growing and new found abilities she had some slip ups, like damaging Kaldur’s mind; something she’s never fully forgiven herself for. Even though she helped to restore his mind, she still felt horribly sick for what she had done to him. Kaldur was one of the few that accepted M’gann from the beginning and actually took the time to explain things to her like people not liking telepathic communication when first she did that with the team back when she first joined. She respected him and was close enough that he was one of the few he had invited to Atlantis to meet his parents that was what made M’gann’s attack on Kaldur’s mind unforgivable in M’gann’s mind.
There was just so much M’gann needed work through as the Reach invasion was thwarted and the Light temporarily defeated, after her assignment on Mars with Alpha Squad, to assist B’arzz O’oomm, she left for Chicago to further train with her uncle. The Team had pretty much gone their separate ways and M’gann needed to get a better handle on her growing abilities. She also tried to convince Beast Boy (her ‘blood brother’) to come with her.
Despite her more reserved nature though M'gann had not changed completely. She still cared a lot about each and every member of the Team and even with everyone going their separate ways, M’gann never forgot any of their birthdays and always managed to take them a batch of her baked cookies or cupcakes, or cards on their special days. Even Christmas and all those Hallmark holidays she'd make a point to have something for them even if it was just a card with some personal words scribbled down; just to let them know she still thought of them because they were and always would be her family no matter where they all were.
In the meantime she started attending high school in Chicago where once again she was part of the cheerleading squad. She studied, went to cheer practice, trained with her uncle and once again tried to live that 'normal' girl's life. So that the last year was about focusing on regaining her confidence and being happy in her own skin again. It was a lot of trial and error not just in her training with her new found abilities but also in life.
The turning point for her was when the call to return to the Team. The time for training and living life like a normal girl was over. There was a rise in abductions and evidence that suggested The Light was once again up to something. The Team was sent to investigate, finding a surplus of super powered beings that could easily take them down. M'gann left Chicago to return to the team full time and help out where she could. Now she juggles between her duties with the Team, school and cheerleading. She was back with her 'family' that she missed so much, she just hoped they would be just as happy to see her as she was them and that she has what it takes to be a productive member of the team once more.

There she waited with her squad, shrouded at first in shadow by a tarp canopy erected for the cheerleaders and home team to enter from. It was their job to set the stage, get the crowd pumped and behind their team but judging from the already electric buzz in the air and the hum of the crowd it wouldn`t take much. The bleachers were packed and speckled in the various colours of Home team and `Visiting team. The excitement and energy was practically palpable, one didn't need to be a telepath to feel the vibe in the air; it was electric almost magical. M`gann herself was caught up in the energy and excitement as she looked out at the crowd.
They all needed this, the city needed this; a moment to just forget about the troubles just beyond the city limits. So this game was set up; Metropolis' Varsity Basketball team vs Metropolis' very own pro team. It was an exciting time that had some people in the city talking about it; hyped about the round up of players. Even the Cheerleading squad was excited to perform at a venue this size. Well excited and daunted all at once.
M'gann felt the warm touch of skin slide into hers and she looked over at Wendy who excitedly gripped M`gann`s hand squeezing it as if to share her excitement or maybe it was a show of support or needing some, either way M`gann closed her hand`s over the other girl`s and smiled. Consider her surprise when she found Wendy here at Met U of all places. It was good though to have a familiar face at the school. Her mind flipped back to her first arrival at the Happy Harbor high school when Wendy waltz right up to her and said.
"Hi I`m Wendy! You look like instant Bumble Bee material."
"W-what?" M'gann remembered asking only because she wasn't sure what Wendy had meant.
"We're cheerleaders! The Bumble Bees!" Wendy had then explained with an over exuberance that cemented the fact that she was one. "Look I was new last year and know what it's like to try and fit in at a new school. You should totally try out for the squad." M'gann remembered the girl urging and that was how it all started; her trip down the rabbit hole.
Since then M'gann had been hooked on cheerleading; ever since she made that squad. She had watched all the movies and TV shows; the entire Bring It On series and even the Hellcats television show plus everything in between. And she would admit, cheerleading even helped get her through some tough times; from her break up with Connor to moving away to Chicago and missing the Team. She never asked for the squad's help but they just all seemed to rally around her. Maybe it was that whole team spirit thing and the fact that it was pretty much their jobs to lift up people's spirits but her squad was great for cheering her up; pun not intended. Even moving to Chicago one of the girls on her old squad contacted her cousin who knew a girl on the cheer leading team at the new school M'gann was to attend and literally when M'gann stepped out of the Administration office of the new school she was greeted by a friendly face that showed her around and of course had her go to tryouts where she made the cheerleading team again. It was like a fellowship that looked out for each other, kind of like the Team did for one another; it was the same, but also different. And she felt blessed not just having the Team but her squad at her side too.
Now here she was a year later, once again in a set of knife pleats and midriff top in the colours and logo of Met U's freshman cheerleading squad facing down the small canopied tunnel they were going to run down with ribbons and pompoms swishing in the air to the cheer of...how many were out on those bleachers? Okay so maybe this size of an audience was a little daunting. Maybe that was why Wendy reached over to grab her hand. M'gann squeezed it back half with excitement but half in nervousness too before they set off down the short jaunt down the tunnel and into the light of the basketball court. The crowd roared their applause, the hardwood gleamed as pompoms shimmered in the light as they were held up and waved as the squad ran to take their positions.
It was a much needed distraction and Met U's Bulldogs basketball team vs Metropolis' very own Pro team; the new upcoming talent vs the city's very own cream of the crop. It was sure to be a crowd pleaser for sure. The lights started flickering and as the announcers setup their intro and queued the music; a techno-symphonic build played to the tune of Fatboy Slim`s `Right Here Right Now` . The lights played across the floor as the music built and they started their routine; syncopated body movements, rhythmic and precise. They moved through various formations as the music played. M'gann moving to the one end of the formation and Wendy on the other, she sited down at the girl locking on, their readiness signaled as they smiled at one another.
Right here, right now! A voice in the song chanted; almost goading in its mantra. It was like it was saying, take advantage of the moment. Live for it. It was the pulse of the song, but also a message. Maybe they didn't know what tomorrow had, and yeah things were a little on the heavy but they still had today.
Right here, right now!
As the music built up and the voice continued chanting, the rest of the squad stilled their movements and let it all settle in. There was an almost discernible hush from the crowd as the squad settled into stillness and the music continued to play and chant the mantra like a steady pulse.
Right here, right now!
It was useless to worry and dwell on screw ups of the past or the scariness of the future; it was useless and pointless. It had to be all about the immediate moments both defining and seemingly insignificant ones; the ones people never get back. The here and the now because those were gone in a heart beat. So the only recourse...live for the moment.
Right here, right now!
M'gann's smile widened sighting down the tumbling line she was to take and ran over in her head the exact tumbling pass. No mistakes, no hesitation. ~ Front handspring step out to a round-off back-handspring step-out to a round-off back-handspring ending with a full-twisting layout. Okay Megan, you got this...~ M'gann told herself.
Right here, right now!
And just like that she took off into a dead run.
Right here, right now!
Right here, right now!
M'gann's legs pistoned against the floor as the music's voice continued to chant, almost urge her on before performing a tumbling run that had her flipping then leaving the ground twisting and twirling in the air. She landed in sync with Wendy as they crossed each other in the air and came down simultaneously next to one another in time with the back beat of the music that struck with a stronger thudding bass. The tumbling pass kicked up the routine into a high octane compilation of stunts as M'gann and the rest of the Flyers were thrown up into the air and tossed around in a series of choreographed stunts.
And just like that her heart soared mixed with the adrenaline that pumps one up M'gann would swear there was no other feeling like this in the world; at least not right now. Tossed up into the air as her body twisted and twirled, kicked and flipped, falling fast and hard into the arms of people she trusted, only to then be propped back up and standing above it all again. From her vantage standing a top the single hand of her base, propped precariously in a Scorpion pose with her leg pulled up straight behind her, she could see them all; their smiling faces, their applause. All swept up in the excitement of the moment and just for a little while they'd forget about the looming darkness of uncertainty that was creeping into the city again.
For a little while they would sit back and enjoy a game and she'd cheer the Home team on at the sidelines. Until of course she was summoned. The communicator discreetly hidden in her ear called her in and suddenly Megan Morse her alter ego was feeling 'ill' and needed to leave. Sometimes it paid to be a shifter as she could easily make herself look ill enough to fool the coach and trainers, enough to take her leave convincingly.
In the cover of night ducking into the shadows her form would fade and disappear, soaring into the air cloaked by her invisibility. It wasn't until her feet stepped foot into their base that the base security's AI picked up on her presence.
'Acknowledge B05 Miss Martian'
Yeah the scenery was different but the sound of that voice strangely made it feel like home.
"Hey! Sorry...got here as quick as I could." She smiled apologetically as her bio suit shifted from her cheerleading gear to her stealth suit; fluidly morphing as she floated and landed next to her teammates. Eyes bright and smile brimming as she was still riding the high from her squad's routine. "It was game night and we brought the house down…We totally killed it! In a Clovers kind of way. Not in a Cloverfield kind of killed it where everyone dies kinda movie but like the Clovers from the first Bring It On movie circa 2000."
“Are we going to need the bio ship for this mission?” the young Martian asked switching gears quickly from common conversation of game night and movies straight onto Team business without missing a beat or a breath really.
Yup it felt good to be back...
ANYTHING ELSE? M’gann’s early history before meeting the team is a mixture of an old app of mine and histories taken from Smallville comics, Infinite Crisis, Teen Titans and Titans Tomorrow. Bits of ideas were all used to explain her history before the events of the Young Justice show and fused with the standard Young Justice storyline. And sample post was from an old post of mine with some modifications to fit the site. Hope that was ok to do.
