November 15th, 2017. 14:44.
The sun was shining down on the beautiful city of Metropolis, glinting against the warm sidewalks and reflecting off of the buildings. The streets were filled with cars and people covered the sidewalks, walking from place to place.
Kara smiled to herself as she watched the people rush past her. They all appeared to be in a hurry, and they all had somewhere to be. It was almost as though the world would end if they wasted another second, and it was the exact kind of haste that Kara had wanted to avoid.
As a superhero, rushing around pretty much came with the territory. Lives needed saving and missions needed completing- it was inevitable- but that didn't mean it was always easy. Sometimes it was nice to just take a break and enjoy the sunshine, without worrying about which villain to take out next. Supergirl loved crime fighting and serving justice was extremely important to her, but sometimes she just wanted to be Kara. No uniforms and no missions, just some free time to spend with her family and friends, and some time to be normal.
'Well, as normal as a Kryptonian can be...' Kara thought, rolling her eyes at the notion, while letting her smile remain.
She was waiting for her cousin to arrive, seeing as the two had planned to spend the day together as a family. This was their first break in a while, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Even for heroes with super-stamina, continuous missions will take their toll, and Kara was burning out. She assumed Clark felt the same way, and thus she was very excited about spending her "normal-free-time" with him. Despite their time together as heroes, nothing compared to the time spent as an actual family.
"Hi," she said, once he'd arrived, unsure of what else to say. It was different to see him without 'S' on his chest, but it was nice to see civilian attire for a change. Normal was so not overrated.

The Man of Steel had plans to spend the day with his cousin Kara in Metropolis. To be honest it had been a long time since the two of them just had time to spend together as Clark and Kara. He was always off fighting the latest world-threatening villain or on assignment at The Daily Planet. Then there was Kara starting to really come into her own as Supergirl. Not to mention her everyday life outside of saving the day. Those factors together made it difficult to meet up for more than a few moments. Hence the other day after a joint mission Clark suggested the two set aside an afternoon for family time.
Ah but as they say, the best laid plans of mice an men. Just after catching a shower on the WatchTower there was a report to come in. There was a bank robbery in Coast City. Four men forced their way inside and filled large bags with cash. They wore body-armor on par with the best SWAT teams. Their automatic weapons were military grade and had the local police hopelessly outgunned. J'onn called Clark for the mission. Of course he couldn't turn it down. Before an eye could blink Superman was en route to Coast City. Once he was there, Clark handled the robbers pretty easily. After handing them over to police he rocketed back towards Metropolis.
After another quick shower, Clark swooshed out of his apartment in some everyday regular attire. He landed in an alley near where Kara was supposed to meet up with him. As he strode out from the alley Clark indeed saw his cousin standing on the sidewalk. She seemed to be lost in her own thoughts at first, or so it seemed to him. However as Clark approached he saw Kara's face light up and she greeted him as he arrived.
"Hi"
Hello Kara. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long.
Clark began.
There was a trouble in Coast City. Nothing too apocolypatic, but since Hal is offworld currently I handled it. The rest of this day, though, is ours to spend as family.
The Man of Steel flashing his cousin a genuine smile.

Kara returned the smile at the thought of spending the rest of the day as family. She had wanted to remark on his recent escapade, but decided against it. Today would be about nothing more than normal hang-out time with her favorite cousin, and they didn't have to think about their superhero responsibilities any longer.
"It's okay," the Kryptonian replied. Clark wasn't at all late, and the circumstances were justifying. Kara was just happy that he was there. "You were actually right on time." The girl's smile became a grin as she grew excited about their day.
It was finally time to decide what they would be doing, and Supergirl couldn't wait. Despite their, obvious, plans to be together, they hadn't decided what they would actually do, or where they would go. Kara was up for anything, whether it be walking around town and talking, having lunch, or skydiving. As long as it was family time, she didn't mind.
"So," Kara started, moving to stand beside her Kryptonian comrade. "What are our plans today? We can do absolutely anything." She glanced at a couple of her college friends who were across the street, entering a store. "Well, anything within reason," she added with a slight giggle. She wouldn't want any of her friends to think she was weird. It was very rare that anyone saw 'Kara Kent' outside of school, and she didn't want to seem lame, she wanted to be cool.

"Its okay. You were actually right on time"
Ah. Good then. Clark had been a little worried that his detour to Coast City would've put him behind on meeting up with Kara. That was not something he wanted to do at all. She was his only living blood relative from their home planet. And Clark enjoyed every moment spent with her. It was such a joy to spend time with another Kryptonian. No knock against Connor, but he was only partially Kryptonian thanks to being a clone. Kara? She had actually been born on Krypton. She'd lived there. Known Clark's biological mother and father, and of course his aunt and uncle. Then Kara was torn from the life she knew by Braniac's attack on Argo City. Her father, Clark's uncle, Zor-El sent Kara towards earth too. For Clark growing up on Earth was somewhat easier as it was all the home he'd really known. Kara's transition was not as smooth. So he always wanted to do his best to make sure that Kara always felt wanted by someone on this planet. To have someone that she would never feel a burden to.
"So.."
Clark was snapped back to the here an now from his thoughts.
"What are our plans today? We can do absolutely anything"
He started to respond with an idea, but Kara had a comment to add.
"Well, anything within reason"
She giggled after adding that part in. Clark had caught her gaze falling on some people entering into a store. Judging by their style of dressing, and speaking to one another, Clark guessed they were college students too. It was possible they were even classmates of Kara's. Hmm. Perhaps she wouldn't want to be embarrassed being seen with her older(at least in appearance) cousin. To this thought he chuckled slightly.
Well there is this new ice cream shop open on the corner of Siegel and Fifty-Second Street that I've been meaning to try....
Clark had a legendary love of junkfood. And Kryptonian super-metabolisms meant that calories were just another word.
How about we go grab a shake and then put together some more concrete plans?

How about we go grab a shake and then put together some more concrete plans? Superman offered, to Kara's delight. "That sounds great," the Kryptonian replied, a huge grin upon her face. She loved nothing more than a nice, cool milkshake, and it took all of her self control not to run at super-speed toward the ice cream shop. It was evident that their day would be nothing less than fantastic. Supergirl began walking in the direction of their destination, strolling as she tried to configure something to talk about. The blonde had plenty of things to discuss with her cousin, and she was eager to hear the details of his life, but still, she had a hard time finding something to say. It had been so long since she'd had an average conversation with someone. "So, how're things at the Daily Planet?" she finally asked, wondering how he managed to be a hero and still have a job at the same time. Kryptonians obviously have outstanding abilities, but there are still a few things that they struggle with. For Kara, managing time is one of those things, but Kal seems to have it all together. He keeps everything in a perfect order, and makes it look easy. Supergirl desires to be that organized, but by the looks of her college schedule, that will never happen. Still, it makes Clark a great role model, and a truly super hero.

"That sounds great"
Kara had retorted to Clarks suggestion of stopping by the new ice cream shop. He could tell by the grin plastered on her face that Kara really liked the idea. Thought it wasn't like that was much of a surprise. A love of Earth's so-called " junk food" seemed to be programmed into the DNA of the kryptonians. Kara obviously loved it, as did Superboy/Connor. Of course then ya had Clark who is likely the biggest junk-food junkie on Earth. A creamy, thick milkshake was one of his favorite indulgences.
Good. Shall we then?
The Man of Steel extended his left arm in the direction of shop. He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jeans...having chosen a simple pair of jeans and an old Smallville High t-shirt for the afternoon...as they walked.
Glancing over at Kara, Clark wondered if she had any idea how much he admired her right now. Or how much he envied her. She was still very much a young kid here on Earth. Kara was experiencing things for the first time that for Clark had been a good ten to fifteen years ago. If not more! And she was always so energetic and bubbly, warm an friendly to those she met. It was almost like a Kryptonian version of M'Gann.
But as they walked, Clark could see it written on Kara's face. She had a hundred and one questions she wanted to ask him. It seemed that she was having trouble putting thoughts into word at the moment. Just as he was about to ask her about it, Kara finally blurted out a question.
"So, how're things at the Daily Planet?"
Good.
He smiled.
They're going really good. Lois is up for another Pulitzer this year. One of her expose's on the connection between Intergang and a senate sub-committee. She's been very....boastful, as you can imagine.
A chuckle.
I've had some good stories myself. I was quite proud of the attention my article brought to Fifty-Second precinct and their work with troubled youths at the Youth Center. How's your schooling going? I talked to Ma the other night, she's been crowing all over Smallville about a Kent in college.
