17 Years Old. Hero.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
ALIAS(ES): Locust[/b] Tied to the same meta-gene awakening that the rest of his powers originate from, Wade’s principal metagene granted ‘power’ is the ability to manipulate metabolic instances. He has the ability to both drain caloric energy from other beings and grant caloric energy to other beings via touch. This caloric energy can then be used to make his body’s electrons fire at greater speeds, to provide simulated ‘olympic class’ or equivalent acts of strength, speed, stamina and toughness. Additionally, it allows his body to regenerate from wounds at speeds that far outclass that of even many supers, with the greatest extent being able to regrow a lost limb at the cost of all his caloric energy focused on this.
BIRTHDAY: March, 8th, 2001
BIRTHPLACE: New Turin, Texas
HOMETOWN: Metropolis (Early Childhood) | Dallas, Texas (Late Childhood/Early Teens)
CURRENT: Where does your character currently reside?
FAMILY:
• Mother: Haley Carter (Nee Mendoza), aged 24. (Deceased. She technically would be 41 if she was still alive, but she died giving birth to Wade and Ivana.)
• Father: Andrew Ivan Carter, aged 41. Engineer working at Lexcorp’s Dallas-Fort Worth facilities.
• Twin Sister: Ivana Carter, aged 17.
• Maternal Grandmother, “Gramgram”: Rebecca Mendoza (Nee O’Neill), aged 70 (Deceased.)
• Maternal Grandmother’s Pet Monkey: Icarus, Aged 12.
ALLIANCE: His sister and his dad. Potential member of ‘The Team.’
RANK: He’s the boss of his sister, if you ask him.
WEAPON: A policeman's cludgel. He bought it on the INTERNETS.
POWER:
This Metabolic Manipulation is not perfect, however: Firstly, in most meta-human targets, the target must be touched for nearly ten minutes to drain them into any state of exhaustion (less time for entirely mundane targets given their smaller caloric needs/concerns). This means it relies on lucky strikes (or sneak attacks), willingness of the target to be touched, or martial arts skill, which Wade does not possess. Secondarily, it is not ‘exactly’ controlled by him, and as such it is effectively must be considered as ‘always’ on, meaning if he touches another person he must assume that he is draining energy from them, and as such he knows he can’t touch anyone for more than ten minutes before they are exhausted, or worse.
•Caloric Well- The second positive aspect of his power is that Wade is effectively a caloric blackhole, his body has an organ (or psychokinetic ability, possibly) that stores his caloric energy in his body without making additional fat. It means he can eat many times the caloric energy maximum of a normal human, but it will simply be stored in a metaphysical ‘statis’ until he needs to use the energy. This includes energy drained from others via touch. While it does not seem to ‘do much’, this provides the very center-point of his powers, because it provides the metabolic ‘fueltank’ for his other powers to run off of.
However, this caloric energy well is not a true case of ‘perfect statis’ and on any given day approximately 10% of the caloric energy that Wade has gained through any particular means, can be considered ‘lost’ as his body simply drops it through its normal processes, or he literally sweats it off in high caloric sweat (or calorie laden breath) or it simply dissipates.
•Caloric-based Psychokinetic Field- While he cannot eat the wide variety of non-organic materials his sister can (though he can digest them, he just can’t tear through them with his teeth, or do the things his sister can with them), he has an ability she does not, in the sense of being able to use his caloric energy to power a part of his brain to allow localized psychokinetic feats. When this ‘field’ is active, a faint teal aura about a half-centimeter to 5 centimeters (at maximum power) begins to engulf him, and he is able to use this psychokinetic energy to simulate super-strength (including super-leaping), limited flight, and ‘super-toughness’ by using the calorie charged air around him to literally cushion blows that are about to hit him, or cushion his landings if he is thrown himself.
This psychokinetic field can be used at maximum to move things within a five foot expanse from him, and any living being within the field will be drain of caloric energy in the same way that his touch would drain them, though at a much lower pace.
However, this has its disadvantages. Firstly, only small things can be psychokinetically/telekinetically ‘stopped’ within this field, which extends as said, up to five feet around him. Larger things can be slowed and ‘cushioned’ but are not actually ‘stopped’. Secondarily, any acts of super strength or super-toughness provided by this ability drain his caloric well faster than most other actions, and if he is drained too much an almost manic hunger may take over him. Thirdly, the caloric drain that occurs on others within the field only gives him about a quarter of the energy drained, the rest either dissipating or being directly funneled into energy for the part of his brain that provides the psychokinetic field and control of it.
BLOOD TYPE: A
ORIENTATION: “Asexual”, but in reality probably more along the lines of Bi-Curious. He’s too busy adjusting to his new circumstances to let teenage yearnings for romance occur. Plus, if he got a girlfriend, his sister would have carte blanche to get a boyfriend, and that would be awkward if the guy wasn’t a guy worth her attention, he feels.
PET: Icarus (Pet Monkey, inherited from his Grandmother. Icarus is also his twin sister’s pet monkey, it should be noted. But Wade actually looks after Icarus more than his sister.)
MENTOR: N/A
SCARS AND MARKINGS: He has several maroon colored scars alongside his back and shoulders, from wounds occurred around the time his powers first ‘activated’. They range in size at most to that of a quarter in size, at this point.
COLOR(S): Dark Green/Orange/Black
UNIFORM: When superhero-ing, Wade dresses himself up in the homemade (with pieces bought off the internet) uniform that he put together with two aims. First, defense of himself, and second, keeping his identity roughly hidden. As such, it consists of the following: A forest green and black hoodie made of a synthetic leather (real leather is expensive), without any particular symbol at the moment (creating a stylized 'Locust' is not exactly easy), with a high collar and a ski (or ninja) like mask of the same color scheme. A pair of well cargo pants of the same dark green made of heavy denim, and a pair of reinforced thigh-or-so height boots, which are black and fastened both with shoelaces and Velcro, also made of leather (and steel-reinforced in the heel and toe areas).
Under the hoodie, he wears a simple black sleeveless shirt. Over his eyes, he has orange lensed goggles and finger-less black motorcycle riding gloves with orange stitching. Finishing off the uniform is one black gauntlet (worn over the left arm/forearm) with a watch and built in communicator-clock, with three retractable (with a movement of the wrist) blade-spikes, a storage space for ONE emergency 'energy bar'. This actual gauntlet was not built by Wade, but rather designed by his father as an engineering challenge (from Lexcorp, at that) which his father failed after a mysterious figure 'robbed the house' during the night. This is his ONLY piece of 'advanced tech' or an actual professional uniform, and is the result of him snatching it and its partner from his father's lab after beginning his heroing career, when his sister had went on her initial rampage of hunger.
DESCRIPTION: Despite his metabolism and the fact that one would assume a young man born with such immense hunger and need for sheer calories would be as thin as a toothpick, Wade is nothing of the sort. Average built with a -tiny- bit of 'baby fat' upon him, the youth stands at a healthy five foot, eleven and a half inches and has faintly broad shoulders with ribs one would expect upon a larger young man.
His auburn hair is unkempt or disheveled at best, a fact which would be less notable if the boy had had much time to cut his hair in the past six or seven months- and if it wasn't down to his shoulders. His facial structure is common enough, with a normal nose for his mostly Irish American heritage, and obnoxious dimples which show themselves the second the youth even begins to crack a smile.
Over all, he's fairly easy to forget aside from the rather manic look in his eyes when he first meets people, and his dimpled smile.

Fear: Claustrophobia: Wade has a minor (though still there) case of claustrophobia thanks to literally having a building fall on him when he was younger. While he clawed his way out, he none the less remembers the fear of what it felt like when he and his sister wouldn’t get out, and fear of losing his family is only heightened in tight spaces, thanks to the fact that his grandmother WAS lost in the building collapse.
Losing Loved Ones: Wade’s biggest fear is losing what family he has left. He never got to know his mother thanks to the circumstances of he and his sister’s birth (her dying giving birth to them), and recently he had to cope with the loss of his beloved ‘Gramgram’. Since then, powers awakened or not, he has a strong fear and concern of not doing things well enough, not being successful enough, not fighting hard enough, and failing, losing his loved ones to them being hurt seriously or killed. It is for THIS reason that he objects to his sister’s insistence on being a ‘superhero’ with him, despite the fact that she has powers as well and many of which directly reflect and support his powers.
Hurting Innocents: Given the nature of his power, and his constant hunger, Wade is quite concerned with the possibility that he might end up hurting someone innocent with his powers, just from being around them. It is a minor fear in his head both because he does not want to hurt his father (who he knows has no power), and because he is driven to be a hero, to honor his grandmother’s memory.
His secret identity being found out: Given that his small remaining family is a concern for him, a major fear is losing them, he greatly fears someone hostile finding out his secret identity and using it to hurt them. His dad is just an innocent engineer, as far as Wade is concerned, and shouldn’t be put in danger unnecessarily.
Desire: To Master his powers: This desire is definitely his chief desire, because of two things it would result in. First, him being able to pursue a normal relationship with someone and not having to be distant rather than being afraid of draining them of caloric energy or worse, and being outed as a ‘freak’. But secondly, he wishes to so that he can be a great hero and defend/save people like the Justice League TRY to do.
HABITS: What does your character tend to do when nervous? Scared? Bored? etc.
PET PEEVE: He has a major dislike for the genre of ‘Pop’ music. When it comes to people though, he does not particularly care for those who are selfish or liars, and he has a major distaste for those who purposefully or unwittingly put others in harm’s way.
STRENGTHS:
• Loyal
• Courageous
• Friendly
• Observant
• A good listener
• A quick thinker.
WEAKNESSES:
• Overprotective
• Very cautious
• Thick shelled
• Stubborn
• Bossy
Despite the friendship of his sister and a few others since early in his life, he's also had to deal with hate from others based on the fact that his father is a loyal employee of Lexcorp, and the fact that he and his sister have always been eerily close, especially given their mother's death early in their live; so this emotional armor makes perfect sense.
He has a strong sense of justice thanks to seeing his sister picked on by others and he himself knowing how it feels to be wronged, and as such was filled with the right disposition to become a vigilante even before his powers activated. He is not one to let an innocent be hurt if he can stop it, and his overprotectiveness of his sister was such that after twenty or so school fights, his father arranged for the family to move out of Metropolis.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
HISTORY: At least as Wade's parents had it planned out, their lives would be simple enough set-up. Andrew, his father, was already an engineer who had finished his internship at Lexcorp and ended up meeting his wife thanks to that and Lexcorp being headquartered in Metropolis. While they didn’t own a home, they were planning to do so with Andrew’s wages as an engineer and Haley’s benefits and wages as a teacher in the Metropolis School District, at least up until their pregnancy turned for the worse.
Of course, Haley and Andrew knew they were going to have twins based on Doctor’s visits, but they did not know the growth of the twins would be such that when Haley finally moved to give birth to them she would not survive it. On March 8th, 2001 their dream fell apart. While the children they hoped for were brought into the world, Haley would not live more than twenty minutes after seeing her children for the first time.
Andrew had been a hopeful, energetic young professional before the death of his wife, but even as his mother-in-law tried to help him with the children, things weren’t easy for the family. For a while, they lived with Haley’s mother, but eventually they got an apartment in one of the public housing blocs within Metropolis, and it was in these two worlds that Wade was initially raised. Sheltered in his grandmother’s suburban home whenever he and Ivana visited or stayed with her, things seemed a lot better than they did in the just-north-of-downtown apartment they called home. The kids in the apartments always wanted to start stuff, especially when they realized his dad worked for Lexcorp, even as a low-level engineer, and they started calling Wade and Ivana all sorts of names.
This resulted of course, in Wade fighting the other children at their school and in their apartment building, regularly, and resulted him in getting a somewhat bad reputation. Which would have not been a problem, aside from moving from one school to another in Metropolis, but soon it seemed like the situation was proving to be a ‘bad example’ for both children, as Ivana began fighting other kids as well. In the end, Andrew decided to cash in part of his savings and 401-K to buy an actual house somewhere else, where his family would be more ‘accepted’. Lexcorp even graciously helped facilitate his relocation and reassignment to a location in Dallas-Fort Worth’s ‘Firesea City’ tech district*, where Lexcorp had a number of facilities.
The move provided some stability for the kids, though it didn’t make things perfect for their home lives, and while Wade excelled in school now that he didn’t feel the need to punch several of his peers daily, it was ever present that the children were not ‘perfectly happy’ with the situation, and while at first their Grangran was invited to come live with them in their new home, she was too firmly rooted in Metropolis to even consider moving.
[Still working on it.]
