February 10th @dickgrayson
Things had settled down a lot at the Cave and Watchtower now that Dick had returned to the Team…eh, kinda. He was still wary about taking missions but he ran the logistics now that Mal had taken up the Guardian role. It was nice having him back, almost like old times. Some people were still a little sore or wouldn’t talk about things but for the most part it was like nothing happened. Even if that was a horrible thing to say it was true. They had all moved on from Wallys death. No one had forgotten him but life went on…it was a sad truth about their line of work, you lost a lot of people, a lot of good people but all you could do was remember their memory and keep on going.
It had taken a lot of work to get Dick to come back but they had come a long way since then..in more ways than one. Their friendship was better than it had been in a long time and their ‘relationship’ was blossoming. When she had met with him however many months back he had all but confessed his love for her but Barbara wouldn’t give into the desire she had. Yes she had thought about it many times, yes she had wanted a real relationship with him for as long as she could remember but she didn’t not want to be his crutch. Dick had still been reeling over the loss of Wally and she didn’t not want to be what he clung to in place of that. It had been difficult and made things a bit awkward at first but they had moved past it and started to mend things and now….well, now she wasn’t really sure what to think.
Dick had always had a flirty personality which had always made gauging his reactions to certain things hard but ever since he had come back she noticed that he didn’t…flirt like he used to. Not even a little bit and it was a little weird at first but, maybe he had been serious about what he had said before.
It gave Barbara a lot to think about and it took her awhile but finally she had swallowed her pride and went to talk to him about things. She was willing to try but she did not want to just jump right into anything or move to fast.
The two of them had gone out on a few ‘dates’ since but it was hard to tell if it was a ‘date’ date of if it was just two friends having fun together but, you know what? She didn’t care. It would get to where it needed to be in time.
Having finished her round of Watchtower duty for the day Barbara left the control room and returned to the armory to change back into her civilian clothes. Now that she was finished she had a few things to do earth side before coming back here and suiting up again for round two. She made quick work of getting out of the bat costume and into something more comfortable and threw her hair up into a ponytail before collecting her things and exiting the room where the Teams suits were kept and started making her way back toward the dorms to pick up her stuff. Barbara had just turned a corner when she almost ran right into someone....
Meh, sorry this took so long and sorry that its kind of all over the place and kind of sucks, Its late and I started running out of steam lol. I think this is what we talked about..skipping forward a bit and them having the start of a relationship. If its not or you want me to change anything just let me know and I will

Dick had been struggling a lot recently. He had struggled with his feelings towards Wally's death, and he had struggled with everything in his heart for Barbara. She knew his feelings, she knew his pain, but he couldn't do much about anything. He had to just downplay it, hide all of it. It didn't affect him very much, but he did feel himself slipping in missions when he did go out. That was the main reason he chose to stay behind in the base and work from there.
Sure, he had had some time with Barbara, but he didn't know what to call them. Were they just two friends hanging out? Prototype dates? What were they? He had no idea, and he refused to assign a name to them, because assigning the wrong name to them would just get to him, and it might affect things with Barbara in general, and he didn't want or need that.
Dick had gotten used to spending long nights at base, but tonight he wasn't going to. He changed and started to make his way out of the area, but he stopped himself. He couldn't keep this up, it was killing him, keeping all of this bottled up the way he was. He turned and headed a different way, but found that the Batgirl suit was already returned, so he picked up the pace and tried to get ahead of Barbara. He had no idea where she was going, but he took a guess on the dorms.
As he was looking around, he turned to exit. She wasn't here. Did he get here first, or did she already leave? Or was she not coming here after all? But as he turned to leave, he found his answer, putting out a hand to stop them from colliding.

Barbara stopped herself just before she collided with his hand and she looked up at who it was "Oh" she said, her surprise at their near collision 'hi." Barbara thought Dick had 'the night off' well, as much of a night off as one of them got and as much as someone like him would allow himself to have but she didn't expect to see him up here. Really, she didn't expect to see anyone. The Team side of the Watchtower was pretty empty right now everyone was either out on missions, training or having their own night offs. "I thought you had the night off?" (meh)

Dick's heart was racing a little as he looked at her. He had tracked her down before she left, because this was important. It was true, he had had part of the night off, but he wanted to come in and do work. He needed to keep busy, and even if he wasn't here, he'd have been out in Bludhaven doing work on his own. That didn't appeal to him, not tonight, not with a lot else on his mind. He had come in to practice if nothing else.
"Well, the allure of that awesome Nightwing suit is just too much," he told her with a half-smile. "I wanted to come in and do some practicing, and what better way than being fully suited up? It just makes sense." His half smile faded as he looked at her. "Look..." He paused a little, clearly rather nervous and unsure of what to say, "Barbara...um..." He gestured out a little, then quickly dropped his hand because he wasn't sure what his gesture even meant, "It's late...I at least could use some food. Would you...um...dinner?" "Wow, smooth Dick..." he thought to himself. He was so good with talking, with what to say to women, but...just not this one.

What he said made sense, so many of them had the problem and Barbara knew she was guilty of that herself. She couldn't count how many times she was off duty and still found herself suiting up instead of relaxing or doing whatever it was she was supposed to be doing. She didn't know how to relax, not really, not like a normal person..none of them did and that was the curse of being a hero.
Besides, she liked the Nightwing suit, it...suited...him.
Barbara shook her head a little to clear her thoughts and get her mind back on track as Dick was struggling to say whatever it was on his mind. "I think you just asked me out to dinner." She teased slightly as his stumbling over words sure. I'm starving, haven't eaten anything since I got here this morning." Another bad habit of hers, getting so caught up in her work that she would forget to eat.

He just looked at her when she responded. She had said yes, and that should fill him with unbridled joy. But...but was this a moment to remember, or was it just another cold day in February? His eyes looked over her beautiful face, as if taking in every inch of it to permanently burn into his mind. His mouth didn't want to work right, so it was all he could do for the moment.
"I...I just want to make sure that...well...that this is..." No, bad way to word that. He lowered his eyes as he tried to think. Dick was smoother than this, but...but wasn't it that smoothness, that flirting that had kind of turned her off of him? Because he had done this so much? This was the real him, the real Dick who wanted nothing but love, affection, tenderness. He drew his eyes back up to her face, looked at her beautiful blue eyes. "Will...will you look at this a just dinner, or...or is this..." A date? He couldn't finish saying that, because he didn't think it was worded well.
His words were clearly failing. He just looked into her eyes, and reached out, gently grasping one of her hands in his. This was stronger than words right now.

Realization of what he just asked her hit her and Barbara was left to wonder. It wouldn't be like they hadn't gone out before, they had done so a number of times since he had been back but there had never been a label on it. Maybe now it was time to do that? They had talked about it before and he had moved at a slow pace for her since that was what she wanted...maybe it was time to finally put the rumors to rest. Something she knew the others would be happy about.
Karen and Cassie were the worst, they were always trying to pry information out of her about her and Dick's relationship...even Zatanna which was almost funny since those two had been a thing before. It seemed like all their focus was on them and what they were doing and since there hadn't been any other real relationship news to drink up they were left with what they could get....Sometimes it felt like Highschool never truly ended.
"A date?" She finished for him as he grabbed her hand "are you asking me out on a real date?" Barbara waited a beat before continuing "well then I accept." This had been a long time coming and Barbara felt that Dick was in a better place than what he had been the first time he had asked her so yes, a real date was long overdue.

"A date? Are you asking me out on a real date? Well then I accept."
Words had never been so sweet for Dick before. He looked at her in almost disbelief. Had she really just said yes to him? She had. This wasn't a dream or anything, this was real. Right? He had dreampt this before, but he was certain he was awake. He had to be awake, he just had to be. It would break him if he woke up to this dream once again.
"You don't know how long I've waited to hear that," Dick said a little weakly, just feeling drained from her yes. Or did she? Well, since they had met up again, she could probably count, but then again, his crush on her had existed long before that, so who knew if she knew? Despite how long he had waited for this, he had no idea where to take her, he had no plans in place or anything.
"Is there anywhere specific you want to go?" he asked her. If there was, he'd take her there, otherwise he'd just do his best to find a really nice, romantic place for them. Granted, neither of them were really dressed for something fancy, which would be his ideal place to take her. But that could wait for another date.

Did she want to go anywhere? Well, there had been a few places she had had in mind for a while that she wanted to try but..she wasn't exactly dressed for any of those and she had to be back in a few hours for round two of her watch...not a lot of time for a proper date, a shower, errands and some rest before having to zeta back up here.
But...maybe. She had an idea.
I'd love to go somewhere but, I have to be back soon for more Watchtower duty, but. Barbara continued before he could get the wrong idea. "Why don't we meet here later with take out? We can save the fancy stuff for another time..besides, we'll have a killer view. They could have their own little picnic in the Teams control room and unless something happened that needed attention they would be virtually alone.

I'd love to go somewhere but, I have to be back soon for more Watchtower duty, but. Even if she was trying to say it before he'd think otherwise, Dick was a fast thinker. He was also an optimist, however, and never thought anything wrong with that. She had agreed to it, so why would she back out? That just didn't make sense, so clearly something was coming up that would be good.
His optimism paid off when it indeed did. He smiled as he looked at her, "That sounds amazing," he told her, "Hopefully nobody drops in on us." He took mental stock of himself, trying to figure out if he needed to change or do something else first. He was probably fine, but throwing on a suit coat wouldn't be the worst thing.
"Do you want to get the takeout, or should I?"

"Would you mind? Barbara asked 'you know that little diner in Bludhaven I like? I've been craving it for weeks but haven't had the chance to go." They had the best ruben sandwich she had ever tasted and it was something she treated herself with every now and then but just hadn't been able to lately with all of her duties. "Ill meet you back here at 9? Nine was when she was due back and that gave her plenty of time to do all of her things, nap and then get back here for her watch/date.

"I know exactly the place," he said. He had shown it to her the first time they had gone. He knew Bludhaven well, and had always enjoyed that place. He was happy that she liked it too. "I think I know what you like, and I'll be back with it. Nine sounds great." He gave her a smile and turned to head out. He had to go get the food and change.
