| They were using magic; it was all water based or electrical but it was still magic. On top of the whole mystical powers things, they were stealing from technologically advanced companies. Lex Corp. Wayne Tech. Star Labs. It left a few hints on where the next attack might be. There were more than one Star Labs locations, and there were several minor places scattered around the states. Still, a competitor of Lex Corp and Wayne Tech was Queen Industries and that place hadn’t been hit yet.
Either something fish was happening within Oliver Queen’s company or that place was definitely on the list of places to be stole from.
It was all hunches, and the Justice League didn’t work off of a hunch one of their younger members had. She wasn’t Batman. Zatanna’s institution hadn’t proved right time after time. She wasn’t the world’s greatest magical detective girl either.
Technically today was her day off and there were a lot of things she wanted to do tonight. There was the whole zombie friend thing, hanging with a certain bat friendly girl or blonde, and there was even trying to convince her jerk face ex-boyfriend of taking scandalous pictures to drool over then sell to a certain redhead. Zatanna could have done a lot of things tonight, but instead she was at Star City waiting for something to go wrong.
Eating takeout on a roof across from Queen Industries, she had sent a few hours texting friends seeing how their Thursday night was going. If tonight was a total bust, she wouldn’t be back to lurking for no reason.
But it wasn’t. In the middle of taking a selfie to prove she really was in Star City, she noticed people down below at the entrance of the closed building. Second later there seemed to be a crash of lightning and the several windows shattering at Star Labs. The criminals she tracked seemed to be getting bolder every robbery. She was right but that wasn’t really all that comforting. She wouldn’t be happy until she stopped these guys and got back all the things they stole and she was determined to do that tonight!
With a magical word, she appeared down below on the streets where her usual opponent was waiting for her. The woman with the aqua powers was waiting for her or acting as look out tonight. “What’s this, round four thousand? You usually lose, so give up now. It’d be easier on you this way,” Zatanna suggested before the other woman made the fire hydrants on the street explode and form two dragons.
That might be a problem.

It wasn't every day that she got a text message, usually she saw the only people she ever talked to every day at school or at the lab and Katt wasn't very chatty outside of those places but today she received a text that had caught her off guard.
It was from Zatanna.
Katt couldn't remember the last time she talked to the magician, they had never been overly close. Friendly? Sure but it wasn't like they were bffs or anything like that so, when the message came Katt was suspicious. There was nothing in the message that had seemed strange, mostly a few 'hypothetical' questions about aquatic powers and what could stop them but when Katt tried asking what this was all about the magical girl was quick to dismiss the question as 'just wondering.' No one in their line of work was 'just curious' about anything and she had a feeling that something was up. After the conversation she left her apartment and went to the shipping dock where the container she used as a base was. Inside the base Katt used her computer to trace Zatanna's messages to see just where the Leaguer was at, able to pinpoint her location to somewhere in Star City.
Well, there were a few places she could be that stood out and after a few minutes of research she had pulled up previous break ins at Wayne Enterprises and LexCorp. Zatanna seemed to be following a lead that had to do with hydrokinetic metas. She would be able to handle it, right? Zatanna was a member of the Justice League and it wasn't like they accepted just anyone.....
She really should just let it go, it wasn't like the other woman had asked for help, just asked a few questions...but, on the other hand. If whatever was going on involved aqua metas than maybe it wouldn't hurt to have one in her corner.
After a few minutes of internal debate Katt suited up and took off for Star City, flying as fast as she could. After about a hour of flying she finally made it and started the search for the black and white clad young woman, figuring heading toward Starlabs was a good a place as any.
It wasn't hard to find the place, all she had to do was look out for the two water dragons. Huh.. She said to herself, that was curious but she didn't have much time to dwel on it as the dragons started to move after their target.
Need a hand? Katt asked as she flew down to street level and landed next to Zatanna. It didn't really matter if she did or not at this point because Hydracat was not leaving, not now.

Well that certainly was a new trick.
Zatanna stood there with one brow raised as she debated what to do. The dragons were going to obvious come after her, so did she need to make a shield, and if so made of what? A light shield could only fend them off for so long while a fire one might get extinguished. The fact there was two meant she was going to be dealing with more than one attack at once. At times like this, it would have been nice to not only be right but bring backup. Superboy and little Robin had both been helpful.
She should have asked Raquel to come but she was at home playing mother and wife right now. The magician really needed a better social life so she could have spent her time not stalking out bad guys but flirting with some cute guy or doing some hobby. Tomorrow, she wasn't going to do something stupid like this and spend her free time patrolling; tomorrow she was going to a club where the most dangerous thing would be going home with a guy she just met instead of being beaten up by magical water dragons!
Someone asked if she needed a hand but Zatanna was too busy at the moment to look. "Retaw nrut ot eci!" she shouted for the water dragons to completely freeze over and fall to the ground before they could attack her. Her eyes finally shifted over just to see Katherine or rather Hydracat next to her. How did she know she was here? The selfie she was taking was for Artemis and she never ended up sending the blonde the picture since this was her city because she was an arrow.
"Nope. I totally got this," Zatanna explained in a happy tone just for her to hear the sound of ice shattering.
Zatanna forgot one of the basics of elemental magic; water beat ice.
"Correction, I sorta got this," she groaned as the dragons lifted up to the sky and attempted to crash down on both girls individually. Katt was able to control water and things like that but Zatanna wasn't so lucky. If she got hit and started to drown then her mouth would be disabled and she'd be in a bad spot. Instead, she used a spell to teleport behind the water manipulator and attempted to driver a swift kick in the head just for her to move. Her concentration broke and the dragons' forms couldn't be kept together entirely as one fell to the ground and became a puddle with the other one kept trying to attack the other hero.

"Nope. I totally got this"
Katt watched the water monsters as they turned to ice and somehow she couldn't share in Zatanna's optimism. Water and ice were the same, it wouldn't be long before the dragons busted through that. "You sure about that?" She asked as the creatures broke free, alright then. Looked like she got here just in the nick of time.
As Zatanna teleported behind the one controlling the dragons Katt turned her focus on the one that was still formed and heading in her direction. Whoever this was controlling had to be Atlantean, they were the only ones able to form water like this thanks to their sorcery. Even Katt couldn't make forms with her water despite how hard she had tried and if they were indeed Atlantean this might prove to be a problem.
Holding out her hands Katt focused on the dragon and stopped the water beast in its tracks. Since both women had the same power it really came down to who's will was stronger and Hydracat put all of her concentration into holding the creature in her power. As she struggled with it Katt could see the tall tale signs of a electricity strike and that wouldn't be good for her if that happened. That was one thing the Atlanteans had on her and it was one thing that could quickly take her down other than fire. Time to end this now then. Giving it all her focus that she possibly could Hydracat parted her hands in the opposite direction, splitting the water beast in two and each side going in the direction that her hands directed. With that done she turned her attention to the woman that had attacked them and shouted at Zatanna. Get her before she shocks us!

If this was really magic, then at least it was following the same magical rules she knew of. Magic took concentration and it was hard to concentrate if a magical user was trying not to get their head bashed in. She was so grateful for all the things Dinah had taught her because right now they were coming in handy. The magician threw punches at the other woman's direction and she did her best to avoid them.
The moment she felt like she had the upper hand, the woman put a good distance between them and Katt suddenly shouted about them getting shocked. The woman eyes started to crackle with energy and the magician frowned deeply. So her hunches had to right at this point since the group had all kept to one type of attack until today. They had to be Atlantean if they could all use water and electric magic rather than elemental sorcerers.
"M'i rebbur, er'uoy eulg!"
The moment the lightning spell hit Zatanna, it was reflected and hit the woman. Atlanteans were strong against water but they weren't immune to lighting even if they could use it. The magician smirked to herself. Katt had the water beast under control and Zatanna was about to have the water user out for the count! "How about some land dweller lightning! Rednuht elbmur, gninthgil ekirts!" Clouds formed quickly before lightning struck the woman down and ended the fight. Zatanna sighed to herself before turning to the other heroine.
"So, you were randomly in the neighborhood after getting a text?" she asked with a raised brow.
She had been talking to Katt and Kaldur'ahm, trying to figure if the people she were against were magic users, Atlanteans, or meta humans. Katt's powers mimicked something like an Atlantean but none of her powers were based in magic. Kaldur'ahm's control over water was almost similar to Katt's but it was magically based. These people had seemed magical but she wasn't sure if they were truly Atlantean but signs were starting to point that way.
Why were Atlanteans on land, stealing technology?
"Are you sticking around, or just for a midnight jog? There's four ore of these guys in here after whatever fancy thing Queen Industries has."

Katt kept her distance as the magician attacked their enemy with her own lightning, water and lightning didn't mix and she never understood how the Atlanteans could use both. Once the energy was gone and the woman that had attacked them down for the count Katt stood there and shrugged at Zatanna's question, placing a hand on her hip as she spoke. 'I thought you could use the help. Looks like I was right." A 'thank you' would have sufficed but whatever.
The former Aquagirl walked over to the unconscious body of the other water user and knelt down next to her to get a better look, reaching out to pull off the head covering she was wearing to conceal her identity. Katt had only been to Atlantis once or twice, Tula and Garth had taken her to show her her 'heritage' but Katt could never stay long. She couldn't handle the water pressure at that depth like they could and after a couple hours it started to get to be too much. While she was there thou she learned a lot about Atlantean culture and about the Conservatory of Sorcery where they train to use their powers and she knew Atlantean magic when she saw it.
"What are Atlanteans doing on the surface?" She asked, not really directed at anyone just more like thinking out lout but if Zatanna had a theory she would love to hear it because this was kind of a head scratcher. 'You need the help don't you?" Katt asked while pushing herself to a standing position "Besides, I'm curious now."

“They’re pissing off rich men,” Zatanna answered though it wasn’t the answer Katt was looking for. The Atlanteans were stealing things from companies own by rich men and while she was pretty sure the previous robberies had left a lot of sour tastes in several people’s mouths, it wasn’t their true goal. Zatanna wasn’t technologically savvy, so she couldn’t piece together what the items stolen could be used for. At times like this, she really missed Wally and his quick thinking but he wasn’t a hero or a League member so he wouldn’t really be an option either if fate played out differently.
If Zatanna were more prideful of a person, saying that she needed help would have been hard but that was never her thing. She nodded. “Team work has always worked best in my experience,” she replied with a smile. Besides, two against four was better odds as far as Zatanna was concerned. She didn’t need to prove to be some amazing magical powerhouse by doing this alone.
Katt agreed to tag along because she was curious. The two women slowly entered the building. The group was doing better at not destroying everything on sight. The security guards had been taken out and were lying in corner soaking wet. The only real clue seemed to be the fact the elevator was on the fortieth floor right now. “They’re after some fancy Queen Industries gadget, and I can only assume it’s on the fortieth floor. So… Troplete.”
The two appeared instantly in a fancier section of the build filled with high security glass rooms. There was a large man standing in front of the elevator in all black. He was probably waiting for the girls to come up the elevator and attack them instantly. It was a good thing she had decided to take the quicker way upstairs. She signaled to Katt they could attack him together. When the other agreed, Zatanna went running at him. Doing a spinning kick, she drove his face into the steel doors and moved out of the way for Katt’s go.

Not exactly what she had been looking for in the answer department but it was whatever. Katt gave one last look to the unconscious woman on the ground before looking to Zatanna. This was her show, she was just here to help so Katt was going to follow her lead. Besides, she did kind of just drop in unexpectedly so it wasn't like she could just bark out orders.
Before she knew it they were teleported inside and Katt's insides didn't seem to move as fast as the rest of her because she had that horrible sudden drop feeling. Ugh, magic. She would never get used to that, nothing against magic or its users but she liked all her body parts in one piece and not transported through dimensions or however it worked. When the girls arrived behind their welcoming party Katt nodded at Zatannas signal, showing that she understood and she waited for the magician to make the first move.
She waited a minute before running after Zatanna, giving enough time between attacks to be simultaneous and so she wouldn't hurt her partner in the process. As Zee's attack hit Katt followed with her own, using her flight to propel herself forward a little more to give it that extra oomph. Balling her fist she brought her arm back and punched at the guys side, putting him more into the steel door that Zatanna had just sent him into. Between the two attacks the guy's body slid down the length of the door and he laid there in a awkward heap. Yes, sometimes team work was much better.

Two were down, meaning they had the jerky leader guy, the weird water girl that always seemed to be sneaking off, and the bigger guy with weapons. Zatanna stood there for a moment and tried to think of all the possibilities of how they’d escape again. With Katt around, they couldn’t just drown everyone in a room or anything like that. A water bubble wouldn’t work on her either so this time things should have gone in her favor but the last three break-ins hadn’t gone that one.
“Stay sharp, these guys are total jerks,” the magician warned as she looked around for signs on where to go next. Unlike the other robberies, there weren’t really holes in the wall or other unnecessary smashing. There were signs that pointed to areas on this floor. Down the corridor to the right was supposed to be new weapons development.
Were the previous items stolen all weaponized things?
She had a bad feeling in her gut. Zatanna shook her head as she started to head down the right path with Katt in tow. “If these guys are Atlanteans and have magic, why are they stealing technology from above the ocean?” she asked the other girl as they made their way to the end of the hall. They would need to warn Aqualad and Aquaman of these things. The magician kept up the stride until a man appeared out of the shadows and swung a mallet of Zatanna. Knocking the heroine into a wall, he turned his attentions to the other woman while she seemed to be hurt on the ground for a moment. She had to be more cautious!

Katt pushed herself up and followed after Zatanna, still trying to figure this all out in her head. She wasn't a team member anymore and she sure wasn't a league member, this was something that they should be handling not her. But, it wasn't like Katt could have just ignored those texts eariler. Well, she could have but then where would that have left Zatanna? If something had happened to her and word got back to Katt she would have never forgiven herself. It seems being out of the team didn't really mean out, at least not really.
"I can see that" she commented when Zatanna said that these guys were jerks. Most Atlanteans were not known for their niceness to the surface dwellers but these particular ones seemed to have it out a little more for them. As they walked Katt looked around, she didn't know the schematics of this building and she really had no idea where they were but judging by the signs it wasn't hard to figure out where they were headed.
"I don't know, it doesn't make sense." It was a legitimate puzzle and she hated puzzles "maybe it's one of Ocean Masters plans?" Katt threw the first thing that came to mind out there, this didn't really seem like Ocean Masters style but you never really knew Black Manta? Katt would be willing to bet anything that Manta wasn't behind this, he had his own ways, his own people and he despised Atlantens but, she was just throwing things out as they popped into her head. Have you talked to Aqualad? His name came out more bitter sounding than she had intended, there was no need to drag that drama into this right now, it wasn't the time but if Kaldur was making a appearance here later she would bow out before that happened, she still had no desire to see him after everything.
Katt didn't have much time to dwell on the sour subject as another one of the rouge Atlantean's jumped out of the shadows and knocked Zatanna back with its weapon. Hydracat saw Zatanna go into the wall and she had no idea if she was ok or not but, in order to check she was going to have to get rid of this guy first. The water clone went in for the attack, swinging her leg at the mans side which he blocked. The Atlantean swung his mallet at Katt and she dodged the first few attempts, ducking and weaving her way out of its way. The man brought the mallet up and brought it down but Katt was ready and she grabbed hold of the mallets base, her own strength keeping it from going too far.
They stood there, in a deadlock with her hands around the top of the mallet and his on the bottom, each trying to break the others grip. The Atlantean had been waiting for this and once he had Katt where he wanted he used his magic and sent electricity her way. The energy climbing down his arms and up the staff of the mallet, snaking its way toward Katt.
She saw it and tried to take her hands away, she'd rather take the hit than the shock but it seemed that wasn't in the cards. Katt could not get her hands away fast enough and the shock glued her hands to the mans weapon as the electricity traveled through her body.

“Ocean Master?”
She thought Atlantean purest hated people from the surface world and those with fish like features. If this was something he came up with, the guy was an even bigger jerk than Kaldur’ahm described him and both Aquaman and Aqualad were going to want to be involved. If she could confirm they were truly Atlantean then both men would want to handle this matter personally.
The thought of it being Black Manta wasn’t much better, but at the same time it was less likely. Black Manta was associated with the Light and these people stole from Lex Corp. If anything, they wouldn’t have started with Lex Luthor’s building and caused such a big scene, especially since she was sure Luthor wasn’t fond of the police having a reason to poke around his stuff.
Still, neither girl could exactly confirm these people were Atlanteans. They could have been meta humans with the ability to control elements like water and lightning. There were too many possibilities an both girls were working with hunches. The Justice League liked solid evidence rather than gut feelings and guesses.
“This is Batman’s cause, technically. I’m pretty sure there’s going to be wise words for me later at the Watchtower,” she groaned.
Talking about the matter lowered her defenses and allowed her to get hurt. Zatanna was knocked against the wall a few seconds later, lying limp on the ground. Pain wasn’t something new to her but she wasn’t usually the type to take hard hits. Tomorrow she was going to have a nasty bruise to complain about and the older members of the League would chastise her for being reckless.
When Katt cried out, Zatanna’s eyes shot open. It took her seconds to realize what was happening and the woman to know what she needed to do. “Nopaew emoceb a ekans” she quickly chanted. The large weapon between the two turned into smoke before a viper leaped out from the gas and attacked the man. “Katt, run!” she shouted before she pointed at the ceiling. “Dna ti lla emac gnilbmut nwod.” The ceiling instantly collapsed from the spell, looking to take out the man.

It went without saying but she hated electricity almost as much as she hated fire. It just didn't mix with her powers and it really hurt like hell. That was one thing she was jealous of the Atlanteans about, they could generate the energy, turn one of their weaknesses into one of their strengths and Katt wished she could do the same but, apparently Cadmus had thought better of that. The shocks traveled through her body and she was stuck where she stood, unable to move until the man decided to stop his attack and if it went on much longer she was sure that there would be some serious side effects.
However, before that could happen Zatanna was up and speaking her backwards gibberish and the mallet suddenly disappeared. With the hammer no longer holding her in place Katt's knees buckled under her and she went down and tried to shake it off but, before she had the chance she was being told to run. Right, run. Easier said than done. Hearing and seeing little bits of the ceiling above them start to fall told her that she really did need to run and Katherine pushed herself to her feet and leapt out of the way as the ceiling came crashing down on top of the man. Not the most graceful thing she could have done but if she had tried to run she would have just fallen right back down again. As soon as she was clear Katt made it to the near by wall and leaned against it rested for a moment. Missions like this were not something she missed.

They both survived, or more importantly, Katt survived. Zatanna slumped over as she caught her breath and let the pain of a bruised body settle in. It wasn’t fun being a heroine at times; right now was a prime example. She felt beat up but there was still so much work to be done and there was no giving up on it before the task was done. If she didn’t want things to be a repeat of the previous incidents, she would get up and stop the crooks before they took something else.
Slowly, she got back to her feet and walked over to where Katt was resting. “Are you okay?” she asked. Her concerned expression was pretty easy to spot. Zatanna had dragged someone into this who shouldn’t have been here and got her hurt. Katt wasn’t a Justice League member or anything else so getting her hurt didn’t bode well at all.
“If you need some more time to rest or want to turn back now, it’s fine. This is something I wanted to handle on my own and you’ve done enough already.”

"Are you ok?" The Magician asked her and Katt nodded "I'm fine." Nothing she hadn't felt before, hell, they all had worse than that but it had also been a couple months since she had gone toe to toe with heavy hitters and it was a rude awakening that she was a bit rusty in that department and more embarrassing than anything.
Zatanna continued to speak, telling her that she could leave if she wanted and Katt side glanced the other woman, it might be hard to get the full effect of the 'are you kidding' look from behind her mask but she was sure it came through enough. She might not be part of the Team at the moment but that didn't mean she wasn't a ally and if she left what would that say about her? She had no ill will against Zatanna and Katt was sure she wouldn't even leave Kaldhur in her dust in the same situation even despite her lackluster opinion of him at the moment.
Standing to her full height and off from the wall Katt rolled her shoulders back and shook her arms out a bit to get rid of the dead arm feeling from the shock. Please. She simply said in that 'are you kidding?' tone. Besides, not like we ever had much girl time before, might as well take it while I can. She said, trying to lighten the mood somewhat. Katt was going to see this through if for nothing more than to deal out some hurt back at these guys, whoever they are.

"Pretty sure girl time is spent at a mall staring at cute boys' butts, Katt. Not getting pounded in the not so fun ways together."
Zatanna had the ability to teleport the aquatic woman home, far from danger, but she wasn't going to force her to leave. This was a dangerous mission and it looked to just get worse as they got near the leader so it was up to Kat. The magician headed forward and turned to see the other woman following along. "Everyone is so going to kill me when they hear about this." The Justice League and Team would have every wise word to throw at her from all the mistakes she made tonight plus endangering a 'civilian.' It was not going to be pretty.
Zatanna's body felt at its limits as her boots kept hitting the ground and she pushed forward. Down a few more hallways, the two made it just in time to see that man she had come to know as their leader taking something else along with the malleable girl. This time, she knew better than to let the girl get away. "Get him!" she shouted at her partner as her eyes landed on the girl. A quick spell put the woman on ice before she could get away with theirs stolen treasure.
