Tim was unusual, Starfire observed. Not as unusual as a Glorg carrying zorkaberries and wearing a throknar, but there were few things on any planet as odd as that. Robin was odd in the sense that he used his head more than most boys ever would. He viewed things from every possible angle and refused to make a move until he knew exactly what to do. It was a more time consuming option, but Starfire couldn't help but admire the fact he wanted to make sure his feelings for Cassie were genuine. Not many men on Tamaran, or even on Earth, would think things through this way. Perhaps Robin was what people called a gentleman, "a well mannered and considerate man with high standards of proper behavior." Oh, how exciting it was that she'd met a gentleman so soon! She'd have to mention it to Wonder Girl later. It could be possible she had never met a gentleman either.
The only thing that confused the alien was the part about girls messing guys up in the head. Surely this wasn't the case, for Robin seemed to use his head more than most people and he was thinking clearly. Koriand'r had not known she was capable of messing up anyone's head. She hadn't meant to, of course, but did all girls on Earth have the ability to mess up a guy's head? If so, this planet was quite dangerous. She had no idea the female population held so much power. "I’m going to figure things out in my head first," he went on, "I’ve got to be sure that I am allowing the right girl mess my head up." Oh, so boys got to pick the right girl to mess their heads up. This was pretty twisted. What if they chose wrong? Why did they choose at all? If it were her, she wasn't so sure she'd wish to pursue a relationship begin with. Conceivably, it would not be good for one's health.
"Do you have like… a mind trick or something? No human girl would be able to get me to say half of this," he added and her eyes widened. Oh, no. This was worse than she'd thought. Perhaps this was due to the fact she was Tamaranean, maybe she had more power than she realized. But what had caused this? She hadn't been trying to play tricks on his mind. She had been unaware she even had such an ability, but, again, it was clear girls on this planet had more power than she'd once thought. She didn't understand why he sounded so positive about such a thing. She would be terrified if an entire gender had the ability to play mind tricks when the odds were not in her favor.
"Your head is, okay, yes?" she questioned, staring up at him with wide, emerald eyes. "On Tamaran, we do not have tricks of the mind, nor do we have the capability to mess with one's head. If I have harmed you in any way, I apologize - it was not on purpose."

Tim just knew it, he knew what he said didn’t translate well to other worldly tourists – his mistake. Tim was trying his best, in truth he hadn’t encountered an alien like Starfire before. She seemed to have such little knowledge of Earth, a level of innocence to her. She was like a young child, learning about things for the first time. Some of the things Tim was trying to explain were perhaps a little too complex, perhaps once Starfire has spent longer on Earth then everything that he said will appear to make more sense. For now, Tim could only hope to make sure that Starfire would feel as though she has done nothing wrong come the end of this conversation.
Tim would inhale a deep breath as he prepared to respond to Starfire, hoping to ease her concerns regarding the whole ‘mind tricks’ thing. Tim would remain calm, collected, speaking in a soft tone as he didn’t want to appear aggravated or annoyed in the slightest. “My head is fine, Star”. Pause. “You’ve done no harm. I didn’t explain it well, really. My bad… it’s complicated. Let’s leave it at that”. Case closed, nothing more needed to be added. Tim will find a way to explain it, someday.
“The point I was trying to make, is that I don’t want to admit any feelings to Cassie until I am sure about them myself. You can understand that, right?”. Tim ran the thoughts behind what he said through his head several times, he was sure it made sense. It did, right? Enough for Starfire to understand he hoped. The residents of Tamaran must share a few things in common with the people of Earth, and surely this was one.

Although Starfire found herself a little discouraged about the fact Tim decided part of their previous conversation had been too "complicated" for her to comprehend, she nodded eagerly at his final sentence. Yes, of course. Everything made perfect sense now. She could not say she had ever fallen in love, or felt even remotely similar to the way Robin felt about Cassie, but she could most certainly understand him wanting to make sure his feelings were true. And she hoped he would, for the sake of a healthy, long-lasting relationship in the future. She could only hope she'd be invited to their wedding someday.
She never said that, though - not aloud, not to Tim. He'd have a fit if he knew what she was thinking. A little crush didn't mean much now, but who knew where it could take them later? Tim and Cassie Drake. It had a lovely ring to it and Starfire had never attended a wedding on Earth before. She hoped it was everything she'd imagined and more. She hoped Cassie would dress in a white gown and Tim would wear a black tux and they would dance and stuff their faces with food and live happily ever after. She smiled to herself. What a wonderful day that would be. She was almost bouncing up and down with excitement.
Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she smiled up at Robin from where she sat. "Do you wish to continue your nap, or do you have more extravagant plans? We could journey to the mall of shopping, or watch the scary movies in a theater, or-" She stopped herself, realizing how inconsiderate she sounded. "Or you could return to napping. I will be very quiet." She whispered the last part, hoping to convey just how good she was at this.

“I think there’s little chance of returning to my nap now”. Tim said with a pleasant smile. It wasn’t to do with Starfire interrupting him. Rather that he was now a lot more awake than he was when he first ventured into the Cave earlier. Falling asleep again seemed like something that would take a great deal of effort, and time, time which Tim didn’t have. “I’m sure that I will have a Bat trying to contact me soon enough, I don’t get much downtime”. He was sure that any second now that a Batman, or a Batgirl would come looking for him, or contact him in some way to do something. Downtime was a rarity, a luxury. Evenings and nights were reserved for fighting crime. Mornings were left for recuperating after a night out in Gotham, which left only the early to mid-afternoon for anything that Tim wanted to do. It was quite the schedule for a fifteen year old to have.
“I’ve only got about an hour or so until I will be wanted back in Gotham, so. How about I show you where the soup is?”. Tim said with a slight smirk appearing on his face. “So you won’t be stuck searching for plants”. Tim would say as he pulled himself up off of the couch. He looked down at his utility belt on the table, and then to his cape draped over the back of the couch – no need to gear up just yet. Instead Tim made his way over towards the kitchen, glancing back to Star as he had a question of his own. “What kind of soup do you usually make anyway?”. Please don’t be too icky.

From what he'd said, Robin had quite the busy schedule. With little time to even nap, it was clear he had no extra time on his hands. Koriand'r had always known the life of a hero could be time consuming and tough, but she'd never imagined someone so busy they worked all night long and slept during the day. He must be so exhausted. She opened her mouth to ask him about this and why the Man of Bats was so strict, but that was when he stood, making his way into the kitchen before asking her about what kind of soup she made. Her face lit up and she hurried to the kitchen, eager to explain this to an Earth boy.
"This would have been my first time making the soup . . . It would not include cans," she began, still a bit confused over why anyone in their right mind would want cans in their soup. "It would, however, include the 'greens'; an odd, purple substance, known here as jelly; the circular melon; sauce of the hot variety; and several of the eggs!" She thought for a moment. "These ingredients are not used on Tamaran, but people of Earth enjoy many of these things, yes?"
She headed to the fridge, grabbing the carton of eggs before returning to the stove and setting each egg into the pot with great care. She held up the empty carton for him to see, once all of them had been placed neatly in the pot. "Do people also cook this egg-holding device?"

There were some scenarios whereby ‘Batman’, nor ‘Robin’ were not cut out for, and this is one of them. This was the type of situation that was better suited to the superhero prowess of one Mr. Alfred Pennyworth. He was the head cook within the Wayne Manor, and while Tim had picked up a thing or two from Alfred, Tim remained very limited as to what he could accomplish in a kitchen. Fortunately for Tim, soup was something he had in his arsenal and thus was not out of his depth too much.
Tim couldn’t help but laugh as Starfire suggested that they actually cook cans, or this ‘egg holding device’. She really was an odd one. “Wait, what? No… you’ve got what I said all wrong”. Tim would say he would shuffle over towards one end of the kitchen. He reached up and opened a cupboard. Inside there were several cans of all different types of foods. He wasn’t sure what Starfire would like, so retrieved the basic; tomato soup. Closing the cupboard, he carried the can of soup with him as he moved across the kitchen again. Another cupboard was opened, from which he grabbed a bowl. “It’s what’s inside the can, Star. Erm...”. Tim went on to open a draw, and pulled out a can-opener. He then used it to open the can of soup and poured out the contents into the bowl. Tim would then open up the microwave and put the bowl in, setting the timer to several minutes.
”And now we just wait… that’s all it takes for soup”. Tim would say as he turned around to face Starfire. It was so much easier that heading outside to hunt for herbs and whatnot. ”I don’t mean to brag, but. I rock a mean soup”. The heck does that even mean?

Starfire found herself rather disappointed that she had been wrong and a little relieved that humans didn't cook the cans. That would be both dangerous and unsavory. She was thankful Robin knew this was not the way things worked, however, thankful he could tell her before she caught another human cooking soup cans. She would certainly spread this news along, for she only wished others to come to this great revelation as well.
She watched as he strode across the kitchen, opening cabinets and drawers, pulling out various, unfamiliar things. She had no idea what he was doing, but she was eager to find out."It’s what’s inside the can, Star," he explained, beginning to do something or another with the strange device he'd pulled from the drawer. She didn't recognize . . . whatever that was, but she hoped he would explain, for all of this was so new to her. She let out a gasp of surprise when he used the device to open the can - that was when she spotted the soup. "I see!" she exclaimed, her smile widening. "As humans say, 'it is what is on the inside that counts,' correct?" She giggled, excited to have used a human expression in such an appropriate situation.
Thankful was an understatement. She had been on Earth for a while now and no one had assisted her in cooking meals of any sort. Soup would be the first thing she had watched anyone make and, from what she could tell, it was not too difficult. She could hardly wait to make some of her own. She turned from the microwave to Tim as he spoke once more, "And now we just wait… that’s all it takes for soup. I don’t mean to brag, but. I rock a mean soup."
She blinked, staring at him in silence for another, long moment. "Oh . . ." she trailed off, her voice quiet. "I was unaware one should place rocks inside the soup. Perhaps we have those outside as well!" This seemed to make her feel a bit better, but, even so, his final sentence still confused her. "And, please, what is it that makes your soup unkind? Where may I purchase the nice soup?"

Tim couldn’t help but faintly smile when Starfire had found such an opportune time to flaunt her knowledge of human expressions. ”Correct”. Tim had said in response, as he put the soup he had prepared into the microwave and set the timer. But things didn’t remain going so smoothly, as Starfire wasn’t your typical girl and thus what Tim said appeared more confusing than ever before.
“I don’t… I don’t mean actual rocks, Star. It was just an expression is all…”. Tim would say, moving quick to eliminate any thoughts that Starfire may have of adding rocks to the soup. “Sorry if you’re disappointed”. Tim added. He wasn’t sure if Starfire was or wasn’t, but she was odd enough for Tim to consider it being a possibility. It only seemed to be the natural progression from picking plants and herbs.
But then Starfire said something that was both weird and wonderful as she questioned the manner of the soups behaviour. That was a first; Tim had never heard someone speak of soup in such terms before. He didn’t do at all well in hiding his laugh, but you could hardly blame him. He went on. “Same about it being a ‘mean soup’. Just an expression, I’m sure it’s nice, it should taste nice at least”.That was going to be subjective to one’s own opinion. But cooking soup in a microwave could hardly go wrong. ”Thirty seconds more and it will be done”. Tick tock.

No, Starfire was not the least bit disappointed to find that humans did not desire to eat rocks. It would not be good for one's teeth, nor one's insides. She didn't understand why Robin would assume this would discourage her - after all, eating rocks would be odd on any planet. She did not tell him this, of course, for she did not want to disappoint him with her lack of disappointment. However, she found herself rather thankful when his laughter changed the subject. She had no idea what had caused him such pleasure, of course, but it relieved her not to have to hurt his feelings. She listened as he explained that soups did not possess personalities, but the soup should taste "nice." This made much more sense to the alien and she smiled at Tim, grateful for the kind explanation. She opened her mouth to respond, but that was when a loud, beeping noise interrupted her. Apparently this was the microwave, alarming them that the soup was done. "You will try some, friend?" she asked, bouncing up and down as she did so. "I am sure it will be most enjoyable!"

With the sound of the microwave beeping, this necessary time had passed by. Tim would open the door of the microwave, and retrieve the hot bowl of soup out, only slightly wincing at the heat of it. He set the bowl down to one side, and then closed the microwave door before retrieving a spoon from one of the kitchen drawers. With it, he then stirred the soup a little. ”I suppose I have time for some sou- Hang on”. Tim let go of the spoon, and raised his right hand up to his ear. A transmission was coming through his earpiece – it was the Batman. Tim listened, nodding along and repeating the word ‘okay’ a lot. Once it ended, Tim dropped his hand down by his side and looked to Starfire with a sigh, shrugging his shoulders. ”Aaaand… it looks like the Bat needs me in Gotham. You enjoy the soup, Star, we’ll have to hang out another time”. Robin said with a smile, turning and heading out towards the door. ”Laters!”. He called back with, heading towards the zeta tube in order to get to Gotham quickly.
Recognised; Robin… B… Two… Zero.
And just like that, the Boy Wonder was on a first class ticket to Gotham.
