November 3rd
Ever since she had had her team up with Kaldur’ahm a few weeks ago he had been on her mind, even when she was busy he was in the back of her head. There was this nonstop nagging feeling and it was starting to drive her insane. Their meeting had been anything but the best but at the end of things she had enjoyed the time spent with him and wanted to do it again. M’gann may be responsible for most of that thou, the girls talk not long ago had convinced Katt that she needed to stop punishing Kaldur for what he did. What was done was done and it wouldn’t change things and deep down Katt knew he had done it out of necessity and if anyone blamed him for the happenings there was no one that blamed Kaldur more than he probably blamed himself.
M’gann had asked what the real reason Katt was so angry at him was, almost in a knowing way and while Katherine didn’t answer the question (more like avoided it completely) it made her think about things a lot. Is this really how she wanted to end what had been one of her closest friendships? She had forgiven Nightwing, had forgiven Artemis but not Kaldur, for her own selfish reasons she kept her grudge against him going and maybe it was time to let that stop.
For a few days Katt tossed the idea of contacting him around in her mind, mulling it over and trying to give any and every excuse she could not to. In the end her excuses had won out almost every time…she was busy, he was busy, she had class, she had work, he probably didn’t want to see her again after the last time, if he wanted to he would have tried to make contact again stupid things but eventually Katt ran out of excuses. The two Atlanteans were a lot alike and neither of them would make any kind of move in the positive direction for fear of the other wanting their space. Someone had to do it and it might as well be her, if nothing else she at least wanted to apologize to him for how she had acted toward him. It took a lot of psyching up and courage but eventually after days of trying to find the right time Katt left her apartment and headed for the local zetatube. She still used them every now and then; even if she was no longer a member of the team the tubes still recognized her and the tubes were the quickest way to The Cave. Katt really had no idea where to start looking for him but she figured The Cave would be the easiest go since she had heard that it had been reconstructed and was once again in use.

The feminine voice announced as the zetatube activated in the cave. It was weird hearing her old alias used again and it caused the pit in her stomach that was there from nervousness to grow a little more ”They really need to change that Katherine thought to herself as she stepped out of the golden light and down the ramp of the zeta, maybe she would talk to someone about that later but right now she was on a mission to find a certain Atlantean man so she could have a talk with him and she needed to do that now before she backed out.
As she stepped off the platform Katt looked around, it was weird seeing The Cave whole again, it almost looked like nothing had happened but there were tiny scars in the rocks foundation that said otherwise. No matter how hard they tried they couldn’t cover up the past like that. Katt took a deep breath as she forced herself to look away and focus on the task at hand and she walked around a little.
”Hello?” She called out as she stepped into the main common area, wondering if anyone was even here. Maybe they weren’t using the cave, maybe everyone was still up at the watchtower.
It didn’t take long after she called out for the clone to hear rumbling from another room and a familiar red head poked her head out of the kitchen with a confused look on her face. ”Katt?” Barbara asked, looking surprised to see her.
”Hey Barbara…” Katherine gave a awkward wave at her old teammate before sticking her hands in her pockets ”Uh..Is Kaldur around?” This was stupid, this was a mistake, why did she think she could just come here after so long?
”Um..no, he’s not.” The red head responded as she walked out with her glass of water while looking at the girl in front of her like she was studying her, noticing how Katherine’s shoulders fell when she heard he wasn’t here. This was a unexpected surprise and it wasn’t something she was sure how to handle. ”I can go get him for you thou..” It wasn’t a secret at how Kaldur and Katt had parted ways and if she was here looking for him then it had to be important right? Right? At least, that was what Barbara thought He’s at the Watchtower, just…wait here a sec, ok?” Barbara set her water down on one of the tables in the common area before she headed toward the Zetatube and transported herself to the Watchtower.
As soon as she arrived Barbara made a B line for the Teams wing in the tower in search of their fearless leader. Once she found him she had to fight the urge to grab him and just drag him back with her, she wanted this resolved. Katherine was a friend but they also needed all the help they could get right now and if they made amends then maybe Katt would be willing to help them out with things at the cave. ”You’ll never guess who is at the Cave to see you.” Barbara explained the situation and once he was ready she pushed him in the direction of the Zeta, offering to take whatever watch duty he may be doing if he needed it covered.
-------
As soon as Barbara left Katt let out a large breath before sucking another one in. Why was she so nervous? It wasn’t like she had never apologized to a person before but for whatever reason this made her feel like her stomach was doing backflips and she hated it. Not knowing how long Barbara would take Katherine sat herself down on one of the couches to wait, she hoped it didn’t take too long because the longer she sat here the more she started to second guess.

As the hum faded Aqualad stepped through the zetatube as his feet hit the cold metal of the watchtower. He stretched as another day was complete and though he would never admit it, the days were starting to blend together. Then again maybe he was just going a bit stir crazy rooming here in the Tower. He was sure there were plenty of people that would trade places with him, and the impressive place that the watchtower was, however Kaldur felt that he was still longing for a place to call just his own, he had had roommates for most of his life, either at the Academy of Sorcery or The Cave. Even his time with the Light had been aboard his fathers ship, packed to the proverbial gills with henchmen. Kaldur mentally placed the need to find his own place further at the top of his ever shifting and ever expanding to-do list as he walked past the viewing window and looked down at the blue and green marble that was Earth.
Couldn't beat the views here though
Momentarily refreshed, he made his way to his room, thinking on taking a swim and then maybe grabbing a quick bite somewhere back Earthside when a certain familiar crop of red hair crested at the doorway.
”You’ll never guess who is at the Cave to see you.” Barbara said as she began to explain
Katt. That was certainly unexpected, after the impromptu mission in Harbor City, he had to admit he hadn't expected to hear from her any time soon. Yet apparently she was there in The Cave, asking for him. Or at least that's what he had gathered from Barbra's whirlwind of exposition. So much of whirlwind that he had not noticed that he had been ushered toward the zetatube, and before he knew it was once again enveloped by the red glow.

As he came into the cave, Aqualad wished he had actually changed out of his work suit before coming here, it felt far too formal even for him. Unfortuantly the only spare clothes he kept here were his uniform, and that really wasn't much better. He was already here, might as well see what she wished to talk about. He walked deeper into the cave eventually finding her by the couches as he nodded to her " Katt, i'm surprised that your here, though it is....good to see you." he said

As she sat there Katt saw a few people pass by, none of them familiar to her. It looked like they had started recruiting others which was good she supposed but then that meant that more had left, right? The Team was never that big but maybe they had started to expand ever since moving to the Watchtower. It wasn't really important but it was something to help keep her mind busy while she waited. The longer she sat there thou the more she started nitpicking little things that were different. Like, the couches had been closer to the kitchen. The kitchen had been bigger, the TV had been a little more to the left. Little things like that that made no difference to anything it was just her mind trying not to over react.
Finally after a few minutes of waiting she saw him walk out of one of the halls leading away from the zeta tubes and she stood from her seat. His attire was not lost on her and now she wondered if she had interrupted some important business. She hoped that Barbara wouldn't have done that and would have at least waited or come back here to tell her to come back later.
" Katt, i'm surprised that your here, though it is....good to see you."
He sounded surprised to see her and she had every right to be after the last time they had met but that was what this was all about; trying to change that. "I'm not interrupting anything, am I?.. She motioned to his attire. Katt had heard that he had taken a more political role now, a ambassador or something like that for Atlantis. As soon as she got conformation that she had not interfered with any important doings Katt looked at him a moment while she stuck her hands in her pockets. "I was.." she paused and looked around. Now that they were here she suddenly felt very small and with all the prying eyes and ears around she didn't feel very comfortable talking about this around them. "I was hoping we could talk. If you have time." Maybe he was busy and she came all this way for nothing, that would be just her luck.

I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"
Kaldur raised an eyebrow as he said " No, why would you..." he stopped and looked down "Oh. This." he shook his head " No, I had just arrived at the Watchtower when Barbara found me, I did not have time to change, and unfortunately I don't keep much in the way of spare clothes around the cave any more, just a spare uniform. I have plenty of time, please." he said as he sat down amidst the couches getting of his feet for the first time today as he gestured for her to sit back down if she wanted.
As he waited for her to speak he merely let the silence that seemed to become the tow's stock and trade fill the air as he realized just how long it had been since he had been down here. There was a time where this had been his sanctuary , this had been The Teams base and home to many of them, including himself. Then he blew it up. The League had done a good job fixing it up, it looked almost like the original however if you looked hard enough you could still see the scars beneath the surface. A surprisingly fitting metaphor given all the rest that happened afterwards.
However he broke out of his reverie before he went to deep as he looked at Katt and said " Barbara was very...non specific about why you were here, what was it you wanted to talk about?"

When he confirmed to her that she was not interrupting anything important Katherine tried to relax a little more. That was good news, at least she would be able to say what she needed to say to him and get it off her chest but...something still didn't feel right. While he took a seat Katt returned to the one she had been previously sitting in and she sat there for a moment in silence, suddenly feeling very small in this hollow shell of a cave that once held so many happy memories for her and she trailed off in her mind for a moment to a happier time in her life.
" Barbara was very...non specific about why you were here, what was it you wanted to talk about?"
His voice brought her back to reality however and her eyes snapped to him. Oh, right. "In all fairness, I didn't tell her." No, that would have been too embarrassing and she really did not want the rumor mill to start. These young heroes may be great at keeping secrets but when it came to catty gossip they were no better than the normal teens in this world. Katt remembered the rumors when M'gann had dumped Conner (or Conner had dumped M'gann..depending on who you heard it from) and started dating L'gann.
Yeah, no thank you.
"What was it you wanted to talk about?"
"Well..." she started but paused to look around again, seeing yet another unfamiliar face walk through and feeling that small, inadequate feeling return. This was a bad idea. "Actually, do you mind if we go somewhere else? Being back here..." she trailed off, figuring she did not need to elaborate any further, at least, hoping she didn't. She imagined that this had to be just as strange for him being back here.

Kat was clearly nervous, and despite himself, her nervousness made him a little nervous especially coupled with secrecy. His mind start rushing through all sorts of worst case scenarios of what might be going on. However a minute or two of silence later and he calmed down and was forced to turn his "leader brain" off for a minute or two. After all he doubted if it was "mission" important it would have been delivered so covertly. However when she suggested: "Actually, do you mind if we go somewhere else? Being back here..."
For a moment his nervousness returned. However it passed as he smiled and said " Of course..."
He then pondered the important question of where. He briefly contemplated the beach outside the cave, as it had often been a favorite hangout of theirs, both of them sharing atlantean heritage and enjoying the calming nature of the sea. However he thought better of it as it seemed just being back here was bringing up quite a few memories for her. Perhaps a more neutral territory was best. He then went over to the keypad near the zeta tube and keyed in the location that would bring them out to an Entrance in the town of Happy Harbor, allowing them a less memory filled place to meet.
As the portal glowed and hummed he gestured to her " After you."

Katherine was oblivious to his own nervousness, too busy with her own to notice. It really should not be this hard to apologize to someone, people did it all the time and no one had ever died from it or anything like that...at least to her knowledge. She had gone up against some of the worst people in the universe; mad scientist, invading alien armies, strange creatures and deadly assassins but this made all of that seem like a walk through the park. Katt was not above acknowledging when she was wrong and this was not her first time telling someone she was sorry for something but for some reason this was one of the hardest things she had done.
Part of her felt like that after she did this that Kaldur would hate her for how she treated him. That after this he would decide that he was the one that had had enough and that that was it. Katt couldn't say she wouldn't deserve it after everything but now that the shoe was on the other foot so to speak she was very afraid of what was going to happen after. But..there was no sense in avoiding it any longer, she had to treat this like any other mission and face it head on. Afterward, whats done would be done and that would be that, no matter what direction it went in.
As he agreed Katt smiled slightly and stood when he did and followed him to the zeta tube. Once the tube was activated with the coordinates Katherine stepped through the portal when she was directed too and she came out the other end in a alley in some city. A quick look around at the buildings just beyond the alley told her that they were in Happy Harbor. When Kaldur'ahm was through Katt started to walk, turning right out of the alley and walking down the street, heading to no particular destination, just walking. For a while there they just walked until finally she couldn't stand it any longer.
"I'm sorry to drag you out here like this" she spoke finally, glancing at him before looking forward again and stuffing her hands into the pockets of her leather jacket "this really isn't as important as I made it seem." Was she trying to talk this down in hopes that maybe he would lose interest and remember something more important that he had to do? Maybe. Katt waited for him to do just that, giving him time to think of something he'd rather be doing but when Kaldur made no move to excuse himself she knew she just had to push through this and get it all off her chest. Like taking off a bandaid, it was better if you just ripped it off in one swoop instead of trying to coax it off.
Inhaling in deep she held it for a moment before letting it out. Here goes nothing. "I just..I wanted to apologize for how I've treated you after everything. " Katt had been looking at him but she found that to be a little intimidating and instead looked down at her feet as she walked. "I was mad at you for what you did and it hurt to think you had betrayed us and then after you come out of being undercover I was not fair to you. I was holding a grudge for my own selfish reasons and I'm sorry for it, you didn't deserve that and I know I've been a jerk to you about everything and I'm sorry. She looked up from her feet and slowed her walking a little before coming to a stop, it was hard to walk and apologize at the same time. "When we ran into each other a while ago it made me realize how much I missed our friendship and I'm hoping that maybe we could do that again?...Be friends like we were that is." There was a lot more she wanted to add but they were things she didn't think would help her case at all right now. No, some things were just better left unsaid and kept buried.
