| It was more or less a nice quiet night and for once Zatanna remembered to bring a book on watch duty. The trashy little novel was the most popular on shelves and all the girls in her class were talking about it. The book was a bit boring in her option since nobody really talked so flowery and the words to describe the characters were so unrealistic. She liked the phase a few years ago the world seemed to go through with its love for magic. Those books were fairly entertaining since they had action with sprinkles of romance.
Or maybe it was the lack of romance that made her think the book was boring.
As she turned another page, the monitor she was watching turned red causing her to put the book down and turn her full attentions to the screen. "Thank goodness, I was starting to fall asleep," she complained to herself as she checked the screen. There had been an alarmed tripped at the weirdest location in the world for there to be a distress call: Lex Corp.
The only cameras in the area that the Watchtower could hack were a bank camera across the street showing people walking though a broken window a few floors above. Lex Corp was up to some dastardly plan with their Metahuman Research facility and yet here she was about to go save that company from thieves. Fate was such a jerk, still.
Without any more time wasted, the girl zeta to the city of tomorrow.
It took no time to get to Lex Corp and it took even less time to follow the trail of destruction the thieves had left as they seemed to be smashing their way through the building. By the time she caught up with them, the group was in one of those clean room things though nobody in the group seemed to be wearing protective gear. "Hey! Pretty sure none of you guys have authorization to be here, which is pretty ballsy considering who owns this place. Doesn't matter though because you guys are leaving," Zatanna declared as she caught the group's attention instantly.
They were all dressed in black suits and she couldn't really make out any facial features. The most she could tell was who was a man and who was a woman. The man who had took the lead seemed to tell the two stragglers to deal with the magician. The large man seemed to pull out an electric mallet while the woman whispered something under her breath to make the sprinkler system go off. " Etativel," the woman shouted backwards before the man could slam his mallet against the ground and electrocute her. The witch went flying forward as she punched the woman then dodged the man with the mallet's second attack.
The childish woman stuck out her tongue at him. She really didn't have time to be playing with them, then again, she wasn't in a rush to get back to that boring book of hers.

Superboy was bouncing around town (literally) and heard an alarm. Not one that would normally be audible, though. It was the high pitched sound of a so called 'silent' alarm and Superboy changed course. Three leaps and he had the sinking feeling that he knew exactly where he was going. A few jumps later and he knew he was right. Lex Corp... surely they had their own security, he thought as he landed on a roof opposite the structure. He walked to the edge and scanned the structure with his infrared vision just to see if it was anybody he knew by chance and he audibly groaned. The top hat and tails, the shapely form, it could only be one person. Zatanna. And she was tangling with two people while it... rained? Sprinklers, that had to be what was distorting their heat signatures... unless Zatanna had decided to magic up some rain.
Regardless, the League nor the Team ever fought alone.
Superboy hopped across the gap and landed on the ledge, strolling in as he watched the fight progress first through is infra-vision and then with his normal visible light spectrum vision. So focused on the fight were the three that Superboy was able to meander right up behind the hammer wielding goon. He had to lean his head back as the man hauled back with that hammer and Conner took a second to inspect the weapon, specifically how it's current possessor activated it. The man lunged to swing it at Zatanna but the weapon simply wasn't there when the strike would have landed, seeing as Conner had just snatched it out of the guy's hands. "Trophy." Conner grinned at Zatanna. "Are you really so bored that you're indulging these two? Turn them into toads or something and lets see what they're after."

She was doing a fairly good job of dodging both their attacks. Training with Black Canary did wonders for her reflex but she supposed she should speed things up. The girl flipped in front of the other girl, expecting the man with the mallet to miss and hit his friend but instead the usual mighty swing brought about nothing since his weapon seemed to be missing and someone was talking about a trophy.
"Trophy?" she repeated.
It almost sounded like Wally and his souvenir thing…
The witch raised a brow as the man moved slightly to reveal Superboy standing behind him. "Superboy?" What was he doing here? She expected Conner to be somewhere like Happy Harbor, or maybe even that Kent farm down in Smallville. The last place he was supposed to be was Metropolis standing a few feet away from her.
He had such a cocky look on his face that was hard to imagine that about seven years ago, the boy was always frowns. On top of his cocky look, he was bold enough to comment on how she was being silly by not transforming these people into something. "Well, a girl needs to spend a Friday night doing something to get out the house," she commented as if she weren't in the middle of a battle. "Dloc dniw wolb!" The winds started to pick up in the room before he icy wind mixed with the spraying water froze her two opponents and left her shivering a little.
"Let me guess, you were out for a midnight stroll and happened to see me so you thought you'd say hello? Or was I because I'm all wet that you wanted to get a better view?" she teased.
Conner was beyond cute and technically not dating one of her friends so casual flirting didn't seem so forbidden anymore. The magician laughed before the happy smile disappeared for a moment as she remembered she was working. Flirting with hot men still had to wait till League duties were done. "I'll let you stare at me all you want after I finish taking care of these guys, okay?" she promised as she tapped him on the nose before heading back towards the path of destruction. The soaking woman left a puddle as she walked out of the room towards where the other three had headed off to.
"I'm almost tempted to let them get far enough so I can see what dirty thing of Lex these people are after," she groaned. Lex Luthor had all types of secrets but like any other situation, she was here to stop the bad guys, not spy on another bad person.

"Yeah. New toy. I'd say souvenir but that was Wally's thing and I don't intend to hang this on a wall for purely display purposes. Next time Clayface pops up... well, you can follow the reasoning, yes?" Conner held up the hammer, putting it in the way of the male thug's punch idly to cause the man to stagger back howling and holding his hand in pain.
That didn't last long, Zatanna put the freeze on the two and brought their role in the battle to an end. Conner was working up a congratulations to Zatanna when she suddenly asked him a question. Then he was about a half thought into answering her when she asked another, more insinuating question that had him frozen in his mental tracks. "Uh... I was... what? I mean, I heard the sound of the internal alarm... super hearing... and then saw you fighting and figured nobody in the League or Team fights alone..."
Of course, she mentioned that she was all wet and his eyes were forced to acknowledge that fact via instinct. Zatanna wore a white shirt. Fortunately she also wore a black coat that hid almost anything that would have made him blush from immediate sight. Conner rubbed the back of his neck at her suggestion of letting him stare as long as he wanted and he found himself uncertain of exactly how long that might be.
Conner was shaken from that contemplation by her sudden departure. He looked back at the hole in the wall through which he'd entered and then back the way she was departing. "I have a bad feeling about this..." He trotted after her, coming to match her pace as she walked after someone he didn't currently see. "There are others? And that doesn't sound like a terrible plan... after all, neither of us seem to be running to catch up with whoever it is we pursue. Opportunity is best observed quietly, until it is time to seize it."

Nervous boys were so cute! She owed Superboy a lot of teasing at a later date to make him uncomfortable to the point of blushing. Seeing the Boy of Steel blush would be a nice highlight to a boring night though right now she had to be a good heroine and stop the bad guys.
It seemed like Superboy was planning on staying since he was following since caught up with her and walked alongside the magician. The boy suggested that she might have caught onto something with her plan of letting the thieves find whatever they were after. Her blue eyes shifted towards the large male as a huge grin appeared on her face. "Superboy, are you encouraging me to be naughty? Only bad things happen when you encourage me to do bad things. Boys like you lose shirts that way." Granted, she had seen him lose a shirt several times during a fight because his clothes were made of much weaker material than him but it was always fun to insinuate something else.
"Also, I'm so not the quiet type. I'm always really loud," she teased even though she was talking about her powers. "Being loud happens to be a side effect as the type of girl that's always doing magical things with her mouth."
The trail of destruction was pretty obvious to follow. The clean room doors seemed to have more and more security clearances the further back they got and those doors were destroyed. Whatever technology these people were after was pretty high guarded Lex Corp merchandise. Part of her hoped whatever these people were after would be accompanied by red signs that said EVIL PLANS and the detailed layout of something sinister to be used against Lex Luthor in court. Lex was just a clever man and things like that never happened.
For all she knew, the man would have her and Superboy arrested for trespassing even though they were legitimate here to help stop the robbers. "Though, I guess if I take my time walking, it's not my fault if they find something and…" she started just for a lightning bolt to fly between the two. A second one appeared and she extended her hand and yelled the word shield backwards. A giant medieval looking shield appeared in front of the couple to absorb the attack before breaking into magical dust. That made two of them with lightning like abilities and some girl with water powers? If she didn't know better, she would have assumed they were magic though she supposed they might have some technological thing creating lightning bolts, powering mallets, and causing water sprinklers to break.
Most people couldn't do real magic so there was never a need to think otherwise. "Hey look, someone wants to test your new toy," she said with a smile. If one stayed behind, they could take care of him easily and then catch up with the other two and be done with it. Tonight was going to be rather easy thanks to having Superboy around.

"Well, when asked by your peers I was thinking we should describe it as patient. Methodical even. What good will we do if we rush into a situation that allows the criminals to get the drop on us so they can escape with their ill gotten ganes?" Conner looked at her innocently when she made reference to losing shirts... well, that was fair. He'd had to toss out quite a few shirts over the years, assuming there was enough left of the garment to warrant gathering up to throw it away in the first place. Superman's suit had a better life expectency, by far, but Superboy wasn't about to switch into a monkey suit. "I keep extras," he admitted.
He patted the cargo pocket on his tactical pants to emphasize the point.
Conner tilted his head at the way she was talking, like she was hinting at something but yet her statements made sense. "I know you have to vocalize your... whatever it is you do. I'm not really the subtle type, myself. Lets say we hasten but not hurry? Let the bad guys get focused on the job and..." Superboy rolled to the side away from the lightning bolt that passed between them, catching sight of Zatanna blocking the second with her own powers as he came back up a half pace down a side hallway. Zatanna made a off hand comment about their attacker wanting to test Conner's new acquisition and he nodded with a smile.
"I never leave anyone disappointed." Conner took another step back, looking at the wall apparently, though in truth he was using his infrared vision to locate their attacker. Then he glanced up, coiled, and jumped through the ceiling with a smash and a rain of debris. Not five seconds later their was another smash from down the hall, followed by a smacking impact, and the form of another being came flying through one of the clean room doorways to thud against the wall as lightning danced around his unconscious form. Conner stepped out where Zatanna could see him. "Hammer wins."

He claimed he never disappointed and if he were Nightwing, there would have been a cocky smirk and a wink accompanied with that statement. Zatanna just smiled widely as she kept her less than innocent thoughts and comments to herself. M'gann had never complained while the two were dating so his statement probably stood true on both levels even if he hadn't meant it like that.
Stepping back and bending, Conner looked like he was going the wrong way before he overdid it by jumping though the ceiling. The magician yelped as she rolled out of the way of the falling debris then frowned as she was left with the lightning bolt thrower. His hand formed another lightning bolt and she still wondered if it was magic or technology before Superboy returned, falling though the ceiling on their opponent. Zatanna's eyes widened as she watched the boy squish his opponent then batted him down the hall. Wincing, the lightning he was forming seemed to be sizzling around his body as he laid there too beaten to fight back.
"Superboy smash good," she mumbled in shock before walking up behind him. She have him a gentle pat on the back. "Super job, super hammer boy! Two more and then you can go back to staring at my wet body, so let's hurry the show up before I dry off?"
With just two or enemies, the job seemed rather easy since they could each handle one. At this rate, everyone here probably had electricity type powers and it would just need a good beating with the mallet or a spell to knock them off their feet before they could round them up and leave the would be robbers to the authorities. It was going to be a rather easy night though it meant she'd be back at the Watchtower reading the boring trashy book again.
Life couldn't always be fun and exciting.
"Let's hurry. Patience was never my strong point anyways," she proclaimed as she went running down the hall. The destruction seemed to have come to an end though at the end of the hall was a nice, thick lead door. The girl moaned for a moment. That definitely seemed like a good door to open considering this was Lex Corp and Superman couldn't see though lead so if Lex was hiding something naught it would be behind that door. At the same time, could the thieves really be behind that door? "Nepo syas Eez," the magician commanded just for the digital lock to turn green and the door open.
The last two were oddly behind the door and one was holding some odd looking device. "You might want to stop now before he hits you with the hammer because it really hurts," she instructed as she pointed at Superboy. The leader guy removed his mask as he locked his red eyes with Zatanna and everything went black. She felt like someone turned off all the lights because she knew she was conscious and standing still. When she opened her mouth to say something a flood of water rushed in. Nobody had trapped her in the dark but rather trapped her in a bubble of dark water. Instantly, she started choking on the rush of water but attempted her best to hold her breath and get out. Without the ability to talk, she was powerless.
Meanwhile, the man and his water creating ability along with the woman holding the strange device were left with Conner. "Retrieve the others and secure the device. I'll handle the annoyances," the man instructed before the woman dissolved away into water. Several water looking lances appeared above the Boy of Steel before they tried to impale him.

Superboy gave her a big grin as she came up, having heard her original statement and then it being followed by more open praise, but that all blanked out when she referenced her desire for him to look at her 'wet body' once again. He couldn't imagine why she was so keen on getting him to stare at her but she was succeeding and he had to admit he knew absolutely nothing about the girl aside from her perky demeanor and the occasional public call down she'd gotten for being a bit unfocused during various endeavors by the Team.
Maybe it was a magic thing...
"Patience.... yeah, me neither." It didn't take them long, at that point, to reach another barrier. Conner trotted to a stop outside of it and grunted. "Something important has to be behind that. The walls and door are so thick I can't even see through it with my infrared vision." He stepped back as she spoke her magical words and the door started to open. And that was where it all went south. Figured. Wait, lightning and water? Atlanteans could do both of those things, like Aqualad. He had an idea as soon as the water sphere surrounded Zatanna. Holding his arms out, as if surrendering for a half second, Conner suddenly chucked the hammer at the man head first.
As it was hurtling toward the man's chest Superboy made a knife edge with his hand and thrust it into the water sphere. Grabbing Zatanna by her wrist and pulling her clear of the sphere. After that the priority was giving her the space to do her thing so, leaving her standing there to recover, SB threw himself at the man he was assuming was an Atlantean or something similar with all of his might...

A hand grabbed her by her wrist and yanked her out of the water prison. The woman coughed up water for a bit as Superboy went after their assailant. Everyone here had freaking magic so it was a bad idea since Conner and magic never went well together. The magician was still coughing out water with hand extended but words failed to come out. Interesting enough, the man's first instincts where to throw up a shield of water that the half Kryptonian went straight though.
He was ill prepared to tangle with Conner since the full body attack sent him staggering but that man had to be made of something pretty dense to take a hit from Conner and only stagger. In response, his hand started to crackle with lightning before he punched the super powered teen back in the face. That was enough as far as Zatanna was concerned. She wasn't looking for her friend to get pummeled. "Erif nrub, nordlauc elbbub!" she shouted to have the air between Superboy and their opponent heat up until it exploded. The explosion knocked the man back but it didn't take him out.
Instead, he decided he was leaving and rushed towards Superboy. Picking him up by the shirt, he tossed the boy into Zatanna and ran for the door. The magician was pinned on the floor for a second before frowning. "This is so not what I mean when I say I like cute boys hitting on me," she complained to herself as they both got on her feet. Puns aside, this wasn't something she liked at all.
They ran after the escaping man back down the way they had come from. The unconscious people they had left seemed to be gone now though when they got into the room where they had started, the girl who had caused the sprinklers to go off attacked Zatanna with a waterball that sent her crashing into the wall. The man was still running towards the destroyed windows, probably looking to jump out and escape. "Don't let him escape Conner," she called. If he could handle the magical, strong male she could take out this girl a second time then they could maybe question these jerks as to who they were and what they stole.
