32. Hero
-------------------------------------------------------------------
ALIAS(ES): Green Lantern.
BIRTHDAY: October 17th, 1984
BIRTHPLACE: Detroit, Michigan
CURRENT: Detroit
FAMILY:
• Mother: Natasha Stewart, 48. Deceased
• Father: Marcus Stewart, 52. Deceased
• Sister: Rose Stewart, 10. Deceased
Brother: Damon Stewart, 27. Living
• Wife: Katma Tui-Stewart, 30. Deceased
ALLIANCE: Justice League
RANK: On the council
WEAPON: John wields a Green Lantern power ring. A lantern's ring is considered by many to be one of the most powerful weapons in the universe. It is in fact only limited by the imagination and willpower of the user. The ring is able to create hardlight constructs of green energy. Amongst the corps, John's constructs are considered to be the most solid. Being that by trade he is an architect, Stewart creates constructs from the inside out. Everything is present in his constructs down to the very last bolt and nut.
POWER: John has a nearly unmatched mastery of the power ring resulting in his constructs being noted as some of the most powerful. Its very likely only Hal Jordan has as much mastery over the ring. The ring allows Stewart the ability of flight both terrestrial and interstellar. When in space the ring maintains a force-field around John to provide him breathable air.
The main use of a Green Lantern's power ring is to produce hard-light constructs. A ring may be used to produce constructs as simple as energy blasts/beams, or as complicated as a tour bus. The strength of the user's will determines how strong and hard the construct is. And the shape a construct takes is limited only to what the wearer can imagine.
Stewart is far more than just a man with a ring though. Before being chosen as a Green Lantern, John served in the United States Marine Corps. He was an accomplished member of the corps before leaving. In fact he was an excellent marksman, serving as a sniper. As well he was a very well trained combatant in close-quarters-combat.
Finally chief amongst the qualities for his consideration as a Lantern: John has an indomitable will. What this means is that Stewart has the capacity to control his emotions and impulses. It also means that he is able to overcome great fear. The sheer force of John's will makes him resistant to mind control, but obviously not immune.
BLOOD TYPE: A-
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
MENTOR: Hal Jordan, Katma Tui
SCARS AND MARKINGS: John has been pretty lucky in his life not to have too much scarring. He has a few small ones here and there on his body, but they're not often visible. One of the most distinct things about John's appearance though is that the iris' of his eyes glow green now. This is due to continued use of his ring.
COLOR(S): Green, black, and white.
UNIFORM: John proudly wears the uniform of the Green Lantern corps into battle whether he is performing his lantern duties, or facing evil with the Justice League. Like all members, John's uniform displays the symbol of the corps. Stewart's being in the center of his chest a la Superman's "S" or Batman's bat symbol. The majority of his uniform is basic black. The exceptions to the basic black being green in the wrists as well as the shoulders and chest.
When not on duty as lantern, John dresses in whatever he finds comfortable. Most often this will be jeans and a t-shirt with a pair of dark sunglasses. Of course if the situation calls for it, John can clean up nice in a suit and tie. Generally he tries to avoid those situations though.
DESCRIPTION: John Stewart is a man of African-American descent hailing from Detroit. With broad shoulders and a muscular physique, he stands about 6'2" tall and weighs about 235 to 240 pounds. Over the years John has been realtively lucky and only carries a few minor battle scars on his body. Though his head is currently shaved, the color is naturally black. His eyes, too, are naturally black. However, due to prolonged use of his ring over the past decade, Stewart's eyes tend to glow green. This effect lessens if the ring loses charge or is removed.
When on-duty, or otherwise appearing in public as Green Lantern, Stewart tends to stand at full attention. This is mostly from his days as a marine. Likewise his GL uniform often looks freshly pressed when he's in it. What can we say? When he's on-duty this lantern is usually quite serious.
When not on duty John'll wear casual clothing like anyone else. Things like jeans and a t-shirt, or khakis and a button-up with an undershirt. Like other members of the league, his expressions soften when not saving the world or galaxy or universe. John will look more like the average man on the street than the dedicated soldier.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fear: Complete and utter failure. Due to a bit of arrogance on his part, John once failed to save a planet. The planet; Xanshi, was lost with all its inhabitants because John thought he could save it on his own. He maintains to this day a deeply seeded guilt for his failure. And it is his fear that one day he could fail his friends in the League, the Corps, or the planet Earth itself much the same.
Desire: John doesn't just want to only save lives, he wants to make a difference in people's lives.
HABITS: John tends to remain reserved around most people. So to most he seems to be very millitaristic or even cold. With those he's developed a relationship with though, John has a playful side to him. The man isn't above using his ring for fun with his friends.
When nervous John'll break out into a bit of a sweat.
The green glowing of John's eyes intensifies with his anger in battle.
PET PEEVE: What really gets to John is seeing "the lil guys" of the world taken advantage of, picked on, and kicked around by those who have power. Growing up a black man, he also is really ticked off by racism and bigotry in all its forms. Inexplicably, John detests disco music.
STRENGTHS:
• As with everyone the Guardians choose for the Green Lantern corps; John possesses a nearly indomitable will. This allows John to project some of the hardest constructs in the Lantern corps.
• Long before he was chosen as Hal Jordan's backup as GL, John was in the USMC. So even if the ring is without a charge? Stewart is a capable hero. He's well trained in combat, hand to hand as well as armed. He was actually a highly trained sniper.
WEAKNESSES:
• Being a human, John is victim to all the ways a mortal man may die without the protection of his ring.
• A lantern's power ring only holds a limited charge. A charge generally lasts 24 hours if not otherwise expended. However if the charge is used in battle that time is reduced, of course.
• John carries a lot of guilt over his failure to save the planet Xanshi. He also has guilt over the death of his wife at the hands of Star Sapphire. Were someone to use this right, they could break Stewart's concentration and interrupt his ability to use his ring.
TRAITS: John Stewart is a man of tremendous willpower. The sheer force of his will has exceeded the capabilities of his ring before. Possessing such a strong, indomitable will, John is virtually fearless. He is also considered somewhat cold by some members of the League and the Team. This mostly is because of John's time in the USMC. He'd been a bit of a wild an wreckless child, the military gave him needed disicipline. It made John more of a reserved personality. He doesn't go out of his way to interact or make friends. John's not a jerk or anything though, and he's always polite an cordial with everyone.
Stewart is a loyal teammate; ask any member of the Green Lantern corps or the Justice League. John doesn't have to be close to you as a friend to have your back. Even though the Lanterns are an intergalactic police force, and he was a marine, John is more interested in what's right and wrong as to blindly enforcing rules and regulations. Because often times John has seen those in power hide behind the rules and laws to take advantage of the defenseless.
Though John doesn't always go out of his way to make friends, he is an extremely loyal friend. He's also alot different of a guy once you do manage to get to know him. With his close friends like Hal Jordan an Barry Allen, John shows a sense of humor and playfulness. Stewart is also a very compassionate indivisual as well. You don't need to be a close friend for him to feel compassion for ya. He's always a sucker for a hardluck case.

HISTORY: Growing up a young black man in Detroit, early on John Stewart's life seemed destined to end up with him as another statistic. He often witnessed his womanzing, gambling alcoholic grandfather being abusive to his grandmother. His own father wasn't much better himself. John's mother, Natasha, tried to protect her son as best she could from his dad's harsh views on the world. Unfortunately John's mother was diasnosed with an incurable cancer. To make matters worse, John was quite a rebellious teenager. One day he took a joyride in his mother's car and lost control of the vehicle. John was pretty banged up in the wreck, but his younger sister Rose died from injuries she sustained. It wasn't long after that that John's father left the family. A year or so later Natasha Stewart was claimed by the cancer ravaging her body.
After losing the majority of his family, John and his younger brother moved in with their aunt. Still a troubled youth by the time he graduated high school, Stewart joined up with the United States Marine Corps. Serving two tours really helped to discipline John into a more well-mannered young man. But after the second tour John decided to leave the Marines. He'd grown disenfranchised with the war effort in Iraq.
John returned home from the war and took up being an architect as a trade. Building and designing had been one of the few things that captured John's attention in school. He applied himself and became quite adept at this trade. Then came that fateful day in 2007. Stewart found himself approached by a man calling himself Hal Jordan. At first John thought Hal was nuts speaking of being chosen by some so-called Guardians of the Universe. But of course being the green lantern of our sector of space(2814), Hal was able to back up his claims. Work had been hard to come by in Detroit so John accepted Hal's offer to be his sector partner(when Guy Gardner wasn't available) in the corps pretty easily.
The Guardians, as well as Hal, were impressed by how quickly John picked up on the uses of his ring. Still, though, they chose to send John to get more indepth training from Katma Tui of sector 1417. During their time together training they fell in love. Katma ended up resigning as a lantern to be with John on Earth. They were soon happily married.
By the later half of 2008 John had become Hal's permenant partner in guarding 2814. The Guardians had given Guy other responsibilities. As for John he was introduced to and inducted into the Justice League. It was such a huge honor for him. And John did his best to show he belonged in the elite grouping of heroes. But as he notched success after success in missions, he became a bit arrogant. That arrogance would cost the people of the Planet Xanshi everything. On a mission with J'onn Jonzz, the Martian Manhunter, Stewart charged ahead leaving J'onn behind. It was the young lantern's belief that he was powerful enough with his ring to stop the threat alone. Tragically the villian knew of the green lantern rings impurity weakness to yellow. John was unable to save the planet and it was destroyed. J'onn was furious with John and berated him for his arrogance. That didn't help the immense guilt John felt. He felt so guilty that he even thought of committing suicide.
One of the few things that pulled John through his depression was his wife Katma. She was really instrumental in his recovery. But as fate would have it, her life would soon be cut short. Turned out there was one survivor of the planet Xanshi. This survivor would become the vilianess known as Fatality. She hunted down lanterns until she found out it was John who was responsible for the death of her planet. The two met in several battles, but John was victorious each time.
Fatality eventually was inducted intil Sinestro's personal corps with a yellow ring of her own. Knowing that still John would be a challenge, Fatality changed her tactics. She studied Stewart and learned all she could of his home life. One day she used her yellow ring to impersonate Star Sapphire(Carol Ferris). Under the guise of Ferris, Fatality murdered Katma Tui-Stewart. And she made sure that John found out it was "Carol Ferris" who was responsible. A grief-stricken Stewart went after Carol in a rage. This led to intervention by Hal, which was what Fatality wanted. She hoped the two lanterns would destroy one another. She almost got her wish as a rift began between Earth's two mightiest lanterns. However the deception was revealed and Fatality chased away.
John grieved for his wife, taking a sabbatical from the lanterns and the League that lasted from the tail end of 2009 til around April of 2010. By July though John had returned to his duties. Once again he proved himself a valuable member fo the Justice League. So much so that when Vandal Savage managed to enslave the League, John was one fo the leaguers sent on a rampage to Rimbor. It wasn't until 2016 that it was figured out. John eventually went to stand trial with the other members of the League. Originally found guilty, John and the other members were cleared by evidence The Team provided of The Light's involvement.
In the year since, Stewart has continued to serve as a member to the Green Lanterns and the Justice League. John has been a major part of the success in many missions. He seems to command much respect from most of his peers in the Justice League. However his an J'onn's relationship is frosty at best. Stewart doesn't blame J'onzz for his apparent dislike of him still. John still carries the tremendous guilt of his failure with him. Often times he wonders if more of the members of the League harbor a grudge towards him for that failure. This is a major reason that John stays to himself unless otherwise approached.
John hasn't dated since the death of Katma. Much like with Xanshi, John carries a deep-seeded guilt over Katma's death. He feels that had it not been for the two of them falling love she'd be alive today patrolling her sector. And so he fears what could happen to anyone else he could ever love. Stewart does have a bit of a crush on fellow League member Hawkwoman. Of course he knows that she is married, happily he assumes, to Hawkman, and so keeps his feelings to himself.

RP SAMPLE: For the past decade the term "Day off" had been been a taboo for John Stewart. Almost since the moment he met Hal Jordan and put on that ring? He's been on the go facing this universe-threatening crisis or that Earth-threatening calimity. There always seemed to be *something* happening. So John had grown more and more cautiously optimistic as the day had drawn on.
Hal was on sector patrol today. That gave John relief from being the active lantern on duty. So far no alerts from the League had come through. Which that was allowing John his current way of relaxing. He was in one of the Watchtower's gym areas. It was the perfect hideaway for a man who usually kept to himself.

Serval 45pound plate-weights clanged together as John lay on his back on the bench. He had already ran about six miles on one of the treadmills. Now Stewart was enjoying turning out some bench-press reps. He'd counted off to 12 reps when he heard the "swish" of the doors open up. Curious as to who was coming in, John grunted as he pushed the heavyily weighed down bar up for the thirteenth rep. He set the bar back into the holders to either side of the bench. The co-Green Lantern of 2814 sat up on the bench, wiping sweat from his face with a towel. He nodded in the direction of the person who'd entered the gym.
Hey, what's up? There's not any trouble going on is there?
John's green ring on his right middle finger glowing faintly.
ANYTHING ELSE? Since he didn't have much involvement in the show, I'm combining stuff from his comics an DCAU Justice League character.
