December 19th - Catskills
A few hours away from the hustle and bustle of Metropolis life was a little piece of heaven. Time seemed to move slower here; a nice change of pace. M'gann looked out at the grand vista before her. It was hard not to be at peace when you stood atop the summit of a mountain, tendrils of her red hair rose and danced upon the pockets of wind current as her she took in the beauty of the scene before her; the high alpine terrain, crisp blue sky, fluffly cumulous clouds in the distance, wicked fall lines huge cliff jumps, tight chutes and steep powder stashes. Some down time was what she wanted, a 24 hour 'leave' of her life in Metropolis to decompress and just shed all the heavy; forget everything down there and just be. She just couldn’t handle being around a lot of people right now; too many minds, too many voices, sometimes one just had to get away. So M'gann sought out the solitude of a little backcountry snowboarding on the side of a mountain. The place was one of the highest summits around and little direct exposure to the sun. It was also the most windy and the coldest part of the ski area, and it wasn’t uncommon for conditions to be very icy, like it was now and why very few people went down this route. She had picked up the sport back in Chicago back then more as a social thing than anything else (there is irony in this now) but she reveled in the speed. She was never a trick boarder and kept off the pipes and half walls, she just liked carving the backcountry negotiating through nature’s trails and hurdles like she was doing now. It was also quieter, with less 'chatter' something that sometimes she just loved.
The Martian raced around the bend and at the fork, veered left towards her selected course; a double black known as Hellraiser. A smile creased her lips as she carved through the snow It was a precarious game she played teetering just on the edge of control with the slick surface provided her with the speed she craved made for a wilder ride. She Eurocarved a tight turn hard cutting it, getting way up on the edge as she leaned her body almost parallel to the ground, her fingers splaying to the ground reflexively as it skimmed the snowy surface and she cut that corner sleek and hard.
WHOOOSH!!
M'gann raced down even faster now luxuriating in the feel of adrenaline's rush, the crisp scent of winter and the view of the alpine terrain as she shredded down the backcountry on her snowboard. Then came a large kicker, and she was momentarily airborne. Her hair flared as she caught air, spun about in a lazy but simple 360 melon grab as she boned the front leg and just hung on air for a fraction of a moment longer before gravity hungrily set her back down. Landing she sprayed out some snow as she made her landing, the wind kicking up the red tendrils of her hair wildly as snow sprayed up and caught on their ends. It couldn’t have been a more perfect moment, the perfect day; clear crisp winter, sun shining brightly, clean untouched snow and the fresh scent of winter as the Chilli Peppers' Parallel Universe played in her ear.
' I swear it's everywhere...It's everything!' the music played, but even with the sounds in her ear she was still aware that she wasn't alone anymore.

Seven hadn't really intended to be at a place like this, he wasn't even really sure what this place. Some sort of holiday location or relaxation habitat. All he knew was that the previous night his opponent's manager couldn't pay him in cash and instead gave him a pass to the place. Giving his word that it was worth the same. At the time it had bothered Seven, he had wanted the money for other things but as time wore on and he gave it some more contemplation perhaps seeing something completely new was just as good as funds.
Once he had understood that place was for people to take part in snow related activities he was even more intrigued. He had seen pictures of snow but not actually saw it in person. So a chance to learn something new and a brand new experience at the same time. Having been there for a few hours the Clone had watched other people go up and down the slopes set out for them, it was enough to get the general idea of the sport. Board goes on feet and then gravity takes over, all you had to do was keep your balance and guide the board in the direction you wished it.
It took a few minutes to convince the instructor to allow Seven his own board, the clone had picked up a few key phrases from others that seemed to know what they were doing and soon he was on his way. Speed was not an issue it seemed as the male gathered that up rather swiftly, balance again was not an issue as that he had in spades. What provided the difficulty was the shifting of the board as it moved, he had never had to move his body like that before and since everyone's feet were enclosed in big boots he couldn't see how they did it. So as he hurtled towards the end of the beginners slope Seven mused to himself that perhaps he had been better taking the lessons that had been offered to him.
A moment of free fall occurred as the dark haired man dropped onto a lower segment of mountain, the small amount of weightlessness had allowed him a better idea of how the ankles were supposed to guide the board like a blade through the cold wet powdery stuff. As the board made contact Seven began to try out theories on how to guide the board to and fro. Speed was still picking up but right now it looked like he had plenty of time before he would get anywhere near another ledge and no one else was here as they were all still above in the resort.
If he could be considered playful then currently Seven was trying to cause huge amounts of spray as he continued on his meandering path down the hill side. The subtle shifts in muscle movement and power created interesting effects as the board dug into the snow, and this was rather fascinating to him. So much so that he only noticed the other person in front of him until he was moving past at high speed. A micro second later his brain had matched the body form to someone he knew. Crouching almost instantly and hopping upward he rotated the board so that he was facing the other way.
With a wave and a slightly confused look as to why M'gann would be out here he called out as he continued backwards now down the slope "Hey M'gann."

"Hey M'gann." came the most unexpected sight and sound. The last person she would have expected to see on the slopes especially this one was Seven. Not that it was unwanted but she just he didn't strike her as the snowboarding type. M'gann smiled as Seven waved at her with a slightly confused look as to why she would be out here. The young Martian figured he was just as surprised to see her as she was him. He didn't know she snowboarded or even surfed for that matter, but the girl was the athletic sort and not really the girly girl kind. M'gann was more the quirky one for all her love of pop culture and movies, she did also like to get out and do stuff and if all the kids were doing it, or have done it, chances were M'gann has too. Case and point...snowboarding. "Hey." M'gann smiled and waved at the clone in reply to his greeting. The young Martian watching as Seven continued to go down the hill backwards. Was he hot-dogging? she wondered, sure on an easy course or small hill with less obstructions and lower incline it would be fine but snowboarding backwards and hot dogging like that on a double black diamond ranked hill was just asking for troubled. "You uhm...might wanna turn around." M'gann offered motioning for the natural obstacles up ahead as she herself prepped for a kicker. A smirk creased her lips as the last track ended and a new song started. The young Martian unable to stop herself from chuckling at the next song to play; Pink's U + Ur Hand
She wasn't about to lie, the music kinda spurred on a bit of that competitive edge in the young Martian. Getting down low as she made her approach she popped up the natural made kicker and was airborne and passed the clone by before he probably even realized it. Then again she was facing forward so had a better vantage of what was to come so with a laugh the Martian taunted. "Try and keep up..." she landed with a healthy amount of powder and spray of snow that may or may not have hit him as she carved down the rest of the mountain still laughing. Whether the spray struck or not didn't matter it wasn't intentional and more just a byproduct, still she was just messing around and having fun.

As she whooshed past and gave him the warning Seven wasn't really sure how to reply and by the time he had figured out what to say the Martian was already gone. He already knew the terrain for as far as he could see and just because he wasn't looking didn't mean he was unprepared. Like her he also hit the bump, his body adjusting to the change in weight and rotated. Normally he would just turn to face the other way but when M'gann was around Seven felt the need to show off a little. Perhaps it was a drive to make her notice him or perhaps to just show that he wasn't dull or robotic like the others said about him.
So inside of just turning in a small circle Seven twisted his body around in a backflip and twist so he would land in the correct direction, knowing the landscape was fine but since the speed he was moving at the amount of land he knew was going to run out extremely quickly.
Try and keep up. That was what she had said. She was offering a challenge then. Seven smirked softly and tucked down a little and reduced his wind resistance and shifted his body ever so slightly to allow for better balance as his speed picked up. Just in time for the wave of snow spray to wash over him. That weird fine mist of white cold and wet caused him to blink a few times. It took a moment to register that she wasn't trying to hinder him and just like he had been before was just causing the snow to eject from under the board.
Catching up wasn't that tricky after that, his ability to adapt to the shifting ground under his feet now connected to the board which had become an extension of his body, enough time had passed that it felt more or less natural. Which while was great for movement and turning. He wasn't really aware of an easier way to stop than just slamming his board into the snow or falling over. Still not something Seven had to worry about right now, there was the matter of keeping up with the Martian. This sort of travelling was rather fun Seven had decided, more so once he had worked out all the little quirks like stopping.
With the speed of them both it would make talking pretty much impossible, wind and the rush of the air past their ears would make that extremely tricky so Seven focused on keeping pace with the female. While he might not have the experience she did every second that he could watch what she did would mean that his skill at the sport would be equal to hers.

In her ear, the electric guitars played the chorus of Pink's U + Ur Hand; a perfect backdrop to the scene playing out, as she sped down the terrain and the brisk wind blew against her. The rush of the speed and the feel of the wind and the snow causing M'gann to smile and then laugh as she looked back at Seven. She didn't exactly know or understand why he was up here but he seemed to know a thing or two about snowboarding so maybe he had come here for the same reason she did; get away from the crowds.
M'gann raced around the bend and at the fork, veered right towards a hemlock turn. A smiled creased her lips as she carved through the snow, picked up a slickened sheet of wet ice beneath her board giving her a bit more speed. It was a precarious game she played teetering just on the edge of control as the slick surface provided her with the speed she craved but also made for a wilder ride.
I'm not here for your entertainment
You don't really want to mess with me tonight
Just stop and take a second
I was fine before you walked into my life
Cause you know it's over
Before it began
A large kicker, she went airborn and boned a Melonchollie Air. Her hair flared as she landed, the wind kicking up the red-orange tendrils and in the setting sunlight made it almost look like fire.
SWHOOOSH!!
She landed then tucked in to get more spped before another hair pin turn. Eurocarving again and negotiating through a tight turn as she raced down even faster now luxuriating in the feel of adrenaline's rush, the crisp scent of winter. M'gann looked back to see if he was keeping up and how the clone was fairing. As soon as she saw that he was fine and keeping up she opened telepathic communication as they carved down the rest of the mountain together.
::Didn't know you liked to snowboard.:: she mentally transmitted her thoughts to him. ::I wasn't expecting to see anyone out here either. What are you doing up here Seven?:: M'gann asked more out of curiosity than anything else.

As she turned in the air, hair floating behind her Seven was caught off guard. His mind wasn't really prepared for something like that and he could feel that twist in his gut as he watched. .:She is beautiful:. Was the first thought that got sent as the mental link was set up. A wave of attraction which was promptly controlled as Seven heard her voice in his head.
.:This is my first time:. Seven said with a slight hint of embarrassment, he was almost sure she hadn't picked up on anything from before. While he knew she was aware he was attracted to her, Seven was fairly sure it was one sided so had started to hide it from her. The strange awkward feeling was starting to weigh on him so felt it easier to just keep it to himself. It did seem like her mind was on other people. Not that he could blame her after all he was still learning, growing as a person. Others were complete and more engaging.
.:I won the tickets in a bout last night. I fell from the resort slope further up and am unsure how to stop as yet so was just enjoying the scenery. Then you were here. I did not mean to intrude on your day however. It must seem like stalking. I give my word that it is not though:. Logically it was impossible for him to know she was here unless he had been following her which he hadn't. Now he felt a pang of worry that she would think the worst. It really did seem that being around her made his emotions more prominent. .:Once it is possible though I will get out your way? It seems unlikely at this time though. Sorry."
His eyes scanned the landscape, it did seem impossible to not keep following her as she took the best and safest path down the slope, so Seven was stuck following her or to strike out on his own and possibly end up some place he really didn't want to be. .:I could make it up to you at the resort?:. Seven asked thoughtfully, the resort had many other activities and places to eat. "They had food and drink, massage and spa treatments though I am unsure what those are. The tickets I was given are all inclusive which seems to mean I can do whatever I want there. I tried this first."

M’gann caught that first thought as she put up the mental link. A wave of attraction was also felt from him by her when the link first opened causing the young Martian to blush though she was glad he wasn’t right there to see her flush pink. The emotion he emitted though was promptly controlled most likely because when Seven heard her voice in his head, he probably realized that she’d put up a mental link to ask her question.
.:This is my first time:. Seven said with a slight hint of embarrassment which she detected and tried to put him at ease.
::Well you’re a natural at this then cause you’re doing great!:: she informed him, hoping to put him at ease. She didn’t like that he was uncomfortable around her or embarrassed; wished that he wouldn’t be. Part of M’gann wondered if it was because of her awkwardness around him sometimes which she couldn’t help. Sometimes the way he’d smile at her or say things made her stomach all fluttery and knotted; then came the embarrassing flush of colour. She realized as well that her being this way was also making him feel all self-conscious and weird and she didn’t want that because the next step to that would then be that he wouldn’t want to hang out with her cause of all the awkward and well M’gann liked hanging out with him so she tried to put a lid on the awkwardness as best she could.
A look of concern washed over the young Martian when she sensed his feelings of not being as ‘complete’ as others as if that was the reason she was being so coy about his feelings towards her. He couldn’t be more wrong about it. That wasn’t why she was being cautious around Seven. She did like being with him, a lot really, but things were...complicated. Her thoughts were pulled away at the sound of Seven’s voice in her head.
.:I won the tickets in a bout last night. I fell from the resort slope further up and am unsure how to stop as yet so was just enjoying the scenery. Then you were here. I did not mean to intrude on your day however. It must seem like stalking. I give my word that it is not though:.
::I know you’re not stalking me Seven.:: she looked back at him and smiled. ::Stop thinking like that. Sometimes things just happen, and sometimes things happen for a reason...Really I don’t mind you around. I kind of like it actually.:: she turned her head back to stare ahead of her masking the motion with intent to look alert at the surroundings ahead of her as she negotiated another turn.
.:Once it is possible though I will get out your way? It seems unlikely at this time though. Sorry.::
And there, she’d had moved to cross his path and then stopped abruptly, stopping him as well telekinetically in sync with her as she put her arms out straight as he came to a halt right in front of her as she slowed him down with her mind until he stopped right at her arms length. Her gloved hands splaying flat against his jacketed chest to stop him from moving forward any as she halted their movements down the slope so they could talk and get things straight a little.
::Alright you need to stop this. You are not in my way and you have nothing to be sorry about.:: she said looking up at him this time as if to make him see she was telling the truth. She knew he could read her so he'd read that she was being honest with what she said. ::Why are you all of a sudden so careful around me? And why do you feel like you’re in my way?...you’re not. Why would you even think that?::
.:I could make it up to you at the resort?:. Seven asked thoughtfully.
::Make it up to me? How?:: M’gann asked. :Why do you have to make up to me?::
"They had food and drink, massage and spa treatments though I am unsure what those are. The tickets I was given are all inclusive which seems to mean I can do whatever I want there. I tried this first." He said.
“Wow, you got all that? You’re so lucky! I just have a day pass for the slopes.” She said with a small smile.

Why would you even think that?::
Why? That was always a big question. Why did anything happen really. Seven surmised that things happened due to outside influences. Nothing seemed to do anything until something else acted on it. His eyes darted a little as he took in her face, a slight smile moved onto his lips as he watched the features of the girl. The clone had memorised the face a thousand times over but it didn't change the fact that Seven enjoyed her being actually there. He had to find words to explain what was going on, to express his thoughts and reactions to things. Times like these he was glad that she was in his mind, that way he could use concepts and ideas to put it across. .:I have been confused regarding how you view me. I have expressed my attraction several times, at one time it was constantly in my thoughts. Yet, you didn't seem to express it back. Little slip ups that you are embarrassed about or want to hide. From that the only real conclusion is that it is one sided. I have seen enough TV shows to know that one sided affection is a bad thing.:.
Seven stood there as the thoughtful look crossed his face, his attention drawn to her hand on his chest. What he wanted to do was place his own on it. When it came to the whole romance thing, he had a billion questions but from everything he had seen or read. Nothing could answer those questions except actual experience.
.:So I am unsure how I am supposed to proceed. If you had liked me back then the path seems easy enough to follow. I ask you on a date, you say Yes and we proceed. All the things I have been shown about the TV shows and how they fall in love or find that special someone. I want that. That sort of connection with another person, human or otherwise.:. He gave her a smile mentally as well as physically .:I had hoped that would be you but as it is not, I need to figure out how to stop thinking it. That is proving difficult. Just when I think I have to locked away, I see you, think about you and my body smiles inside.:.
With a shake of his head Seven stopped his thought process, he had seen enough tv to know that the confession of attraction was usually a bad sign for a friendship. How many TV friends had been ruined by the stupid guy telling the lead girl how he liked her, thought they were great together to be told the same thing. You're great and all but I think of you like a friend or a brother. Sorry.

.:I have been confused regarding how you view me.
M'gann couldn't help but blush as Seven outwardly admitted his attraction to her, even if she had sensed it a few times and he did make it rather apparent it still made those pesky butterflies flutter all around the insides of her stomach and cause the heat to rush to her face when he called her on her slip ups and embarrassments she tried to hide, like now. Only then to strike down those butterflies just as quickly causing them to fall as she felt that drop to the pit of her stomach and she was suddenly filled with a sense of guilt or remorse. How one person could throw all those emotions at her all at once she couldn't fathom but somehow Seven had managed it causing M'gann too look down in guilt. She didn't like making people feel bad; hated it actually or more poignantly hated herself for making people feel that way.
It wasn't that she wasn't attracted to him though she did her best to avoid the topic when it used to surface and then push down the attraction mostly because she really wasn't sure she was ready for a relationship. The last two tries ended rather badly and no one got out of it unscathed. She didn't want to do that to Seven too. She wanted his first experience at a relationship a good one and not destined for failure and pain which was all M'gann managed to ever bring to the table. Just ask Connor and La'gaan about that.
"I'm sorry Seven...I really am." M'gann said softly.
.: I am unsure how I am supposed to proceed. If you had liked me back then the path seems easy enough to follow. I ask you on a date, you say Yes and we proceed. All the things I have been shown about the TV shows and how they fall in love or find that special someone. I want that. That sort of connection with another person, human or otherwise.:. He gave her a smile mentally as well as physically
Again she blushed, averted her eyes to the ground offering a small apologetic smile back. "And you deserve to have that ... You should have that ... it just probably won't be with me." her voice fell slightly, softened as she shook her head. " I'm just not girlfriend material Seven."
:I had hoped that would be you but as it is not, I need to figure out how to stop thinking it. That is proving difficult. Just when I think I have to locked away, I see you, think about you and my body smiles inside.:.
Again the butterflies rose when he spoke but M'gann pushed them down easy enough when she reminded herself of the two people she'd hurt in the past. Seven deserved better than that fate. "Trust me, you don't want me... not in that way."
She looked up at him then with a hopeful smile. "But that doesn't mean we can't hang out and do things together... we can still be friends."

Seven listen, silently and with focus on her. The clones eyes darting a little as he picked up the subtle clues and body language shifts from the words that were spoken. She was saying one thing and her body was a mess of that and everything else. Conflicted.
"We are friends, I trust you more than I do anyone else." He had to clarify that, make sure she understood that there was no conditions on this conversation. "You tell me that you can't be like that with anyone. I disagree. Emotionally and logically." Seven moved his hand to hers and placed it lightly over it, sandwiching it between his fingers and his jacket. Flickers of the first time she had touched him like that moved through his thoughts, recalled memories of emotional response for the first time. Something in his life other than tactics and logic. "You are scared that you will make a mistake. Scared that it will go badly. Experience has told you that you fail at this." His eyes did is best to keep looking at hers, but with how she kept ducking away it made it difficult. "Logically, we spend time together and we have fun. I've never been bored around you like I get with others. I become eager to see you. I think you look forward to seeing me too. Your body language shifts a little when we make eye contact. Logic says you feel something for me too." Seven felt like he was trying to argue a point that perhaps shouldn't be made but wasn't this supposed to be something you fight for? Special things were made to be pursed and created, again something the TV shows she had shown him had pointed out. All he needed was an airport and a montage of travelling to it to stop her getting on a plane and it would be right out a classic rom com.
"You said you aren't girlfriend material. Isn't the only thing that changes that we become closer than we are? We already have done pretty much everything together. We fought, cried, laughed and talked about so much and that was our first meeting. It has only become better since then. You have made me a better person, make me want to be better still." Was this going to make things worse? Seven had to wonder now that he was mid way through stating his case to sway her. It was weird, the more he said it out loud the more it made sense to him, this was what he wanted and he would do his best to make her see that it would work, that they could get past both their issues together.
"When we fought, I understood that you were like me. I could see it in your eyes how much you wanted to let go. You held back though, like I do. I know you aren't telling me everything about you but I don't mind. Whatever it is, it makes you unhappy and I don't want you to feel that way." Mental flashes again of the fight, now dissected and processed and one thing he had seen was how much she wanted to revel in the fight. He wasn't judgemental of the shift in her but impressed that she could hold back, glad even that perhaps someone else understood how he felt with the need to just let it all out, a simple violent nature but like him she held it back, wanted to be better than a base instinct. "So trust me when I say that I do. Good and bad, stop hiding and be honest with M'gann. Lets at least do that part right, even if we are always just going to be friends."
