77 (28 Biologically), Hero
-------------------------------------------------------------------
ALIAS(ES): Captain Atom, Atom, The Man of Tomorrow, Cameron Scott, Captain Scott.
BIRTHDAY: 5/30/1940
BIRTHPLACE: Virginia
CURRENT: The Watchtower
FAMILY:
- Wife -Elizabeth - Deceased
- Son -Ulysses - Deceased
- Daughter -Mary - Deceased
- Mother -Patricia - Deceased
- Father -Tecumseh Adams - Deceased
ALLIANCE: The American Government and the Justice League
RANK: N/A
WEAPON: His powers
POWER:
Dilustel Armor - Nathaniel's body is when he decides to take on his Captain Atom persona sheathed in a metal alien being called 'The Silver Shield' should Nathaniel so choose to 'armour up' the metal replaces any skin or clothing he wears coating him in itself. Even partially armoured this way Nathaniel is capable of accessing the Quantum field manipulation, though it is only when he is fully armoured that he is capable of using his most deadly powers.
Strength - Nathaniel is a capable of harnessing the force of strong nuclear bonds that allow protons and neutrons to bond together. Utilising this force within his containment suit of Dilustel allows him a reservoir of strength that is considered on par with a Kryptonians. He's capable of sustaining that strength regardless of exposure to radiation of any kind.
Invulnerability - The metal coating Nathaniel's body when he transforms into Captain Atom makes him essentially invulnerable to any physical or energy attacks allowing him protection (aside from a need to breathe oxygen) even in the vacuum of space.
Energy Blasts - Nathaniel is capable of focusing the constant maelstrom of strong nuclear energy in his body into non-radioactive blasts when in his Captain Atom form that can be enhanced by drawing more energy from his body to fuel them.
Quantum Field Manipulation and Quantum sense - Nathaniel can sense and listen in on radio signals, has the ability to give off WiFi and on one or two fateful occasions even used his hand as a home-made microwave. By manipulating the Quantum field Nathaniel is capable of harnessing the energy inside himself for nearly any purpose he sees fit. Though this can quickly exhaust him if he does anything too major or affects reality too much. You won't see him turning a skyscraper into daisies or melting down the watch-tower into ice cream. But give him something small like a bottle of water and he might just be able to make it whiskey.
Chronokinesis (Inadvertent) - If Nathaniel absorbs too much energy of any sort his armour cannot restrain his being and he is thrown violently through time. The toll this takes on his body is terrible but it could allow for a vital edge in combat if he should disappear and reappear a few moments later. I mean who knows he might disappear entirely if someone overloads him too badly.
Flight - He is capable of repelling his own body from the ground and flying at speeds matching those of other League members with ease. Through use of Nuclear energy Atom could be capable of propelling himself at faster speeds.
Energy Absorbent - Nathaniel in his Captain Atom form is capable of absorbing any and all types of energy. Including Red sun radiation, heat, electricity and nuclear energy. You fill him up with too much though and he goes boom.
BLOOD TYPE: N/A He bleeds radioactive energy
ORIENTATION: Demisexual
PET: A Cat named Grant
SCARS AND MARKINGS: None
COLOR(S): Silver and Red
UNIFORM:
The Containment Suit - As described in the 'Dilustel Armor' section of his powers Nathaniel's body on demand is coated in a silver alien metal that completely covers his entire body, red hands and forearms and red boot like markings can be observed on him. This metal armour protects not only Nathaniel from most if not all forms of physical harm but also shields those around him the nuclear radiation his body gives off when it's hurt. Should the metal suit be punctured by any means then the radiation and energy will flood out at an exponential rate creating an explosion that depending on it's ferociousness could wipe out the entire earth.
DESCRIPTION:
Standing at an imposing six feet and four inches tall and weighing around two hundred and twenty five pounds Nathaniel even without his powers is a formidable sight. Years of hard military training coupled with his own unique fitness regime has allowed him to maintain a trim and well muscled physique and a high level of fitness. His hair is the colour of iron when he not transformed and his eyes are bright green.
When transformed his entire body takes on a metallic, silver sheen, even his hair becomes frozen in place unmoving and seemingly very well kept. His eyes change from their cold green colour into a bright, blazing red. The metal is defined by the red atomic mark on his chest a reminder of his dangerous ability to explode and a symbol of his power.
PLAY-BY: Henry Cavill
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fear: Nathaniel doesn't really fear things anymore, he hasn't been what he would consider scared in years. However he does have certain inadequacies and he worries about those inadequacies impeding him in his duty. His inability to connect with people on a physical level, the explosive nature of his power should he become uncontrollable. He worries about the pain and the destruction he could cause should he ever be controlled by any nefarious organisation and Nathaniel's biggest fear is that he should connect with the people around him only to disappear one day and reappear thirty years later and find the people he once loved to be old and wizened and himself to still be a young man.
He worries that the whole world is going to change around him all over again, that all the rules are going to change that the next time he wakes up it's all going to be different, that everything he had only just grown accustomed too in modern times is going to be utterly changed from what he expected it to be. He's scared of losing more of his young charges or more of his fellow members of the Justice League he felt personally responsible for all of them once and even now that responsibility has yet to fade away from his consciousness.
He's scared of losing his cat honestly. Grant is one of the last big ties Nathaniel has to humanity and despite the fact that it's just a cat, losing him would put a large strain on Nathaniel and force him to re-evaluate what he is once again.
Desire: To save his country and his world. Nathaniel is so patriotic at this point that he can't so much as breathe without thinking of his duty to his country. It's one of the very few things he's still sure about after his failure at being Leader of the Justice League. He's suffering with self-confidence issues and he wants to get rid of that. Honestly deep down Nathaniel wants to emotionally bond with someone again. He wants to grow close to a woman on an emotional level but he isn't very sure how to do that anymore.
Nathaniel desperately wants to create a world where he just isn't needed anymore. Where superheroes aren't needed to keep the peace. All he's seen during his life is people fighting, people killing one another with powers he feels that most aren't mature or intelligent enough to be allowed to use properly. Whilst Nate understands that you need to fight fire with fire some part of him just wants a peace where he can fly off into space and never come back or overload himself and appear in a future where there isn't any need for his powers anymore.
He just wants the world to be a safe place.
HABITS:
Atom has a certain thing about military procedure. Including standing at attention when he perceives superior officers. Slipping into Military speak when on missions, saluting people. It's become a rather long standing and engrained part of his personality and Nathaniel holds onto it tightly and to him the discipline and imposed restrictions offered by the military code to which he still holds himself too are one of the key parts of him attempting to remain in touch with his own humanity.
He has little knowledge of modern, popular culture he comes from a time when the radio was the only source of entertainment television was still very much in it's infancy and rock music had only just began to take off. Even after a few years in the modern world he's still very much ignorant about the way things work and though Nathaniel's capable of acting like a WiFi hotspot if he should so choose he still has no idea how to work a touch screen properly or why anyone would want to use a touch screen to write a letter when a typewriter and some nice paper does a perfect job all by itself.
He habitually disappears from public life when put under intense pressure. He just has no way of handling any sort of adoring public or un-adoring public speculation about himself. Hence why he has a publicist. Furthermore when Nathaniel senses that there is danger he has a habit of turning to the Government rather than his fellow heroes, this could be one of the most dangerous parts of his personality being someone so captured with procedure and patriotism.
PET PEEVE: Incorrectly following procedure for one, that annoys Nathaniel to no end. People not listening, people listening but not really paying attention, people who hate America, people who want to destroy or affect the way the Government is run. People who fight against authority and don't show proper respect to one another. Superheroes who believe that they should have any sort of say in the running of the American country. Military men who throw their weight around. People who tell him to 'get him out more', people who tell him that he should start seeing someone. Women who ask him out on dates or ask him to sign things, men who ask him out on dates or ask him to sign things. People in general when he's in a bad mood. Nathaniel has a long list of pet peeves but stay's surprisingly calm despite all of them.
STRENGTHS:
-His Military training and procedure coupled with his discipline allows Nathaniel to be a solid leader and one that doesn't buckle beneath the burden of command.
-His power set allows him to stand toe-to-toe with some of the strongest heroes and villains the universe has to offer and come out unscathed. He's not afraid to stand up for his country and his planet and it shows in the way he acts and treats the people around him.
-He's a patriot first and a member of the Justice League second. He doesn't do what's best for the people immediately around him he does what's best for his country. Though this might be considered a weakness he will sacrifice himself for his country should he have to.
WEAKNESSES:
-His patriotism whilst being one of his greatest strengths is also one of his biggest weaknesses. Nathaniel isn't afraid to leave the Justice League behind to work for his country and he has no qualms whatsoever acting on behalf of the American Government if he has to.
-If his containment suit is breached it's basically game over for him. I'm not kidding if the dilustel metal that surrounds his energy form is opened in some way it's going to be bad news for everyone a nuclear explosion at best and at worse Atom will be torn from reality and teleported into a different time.
-Nathaniel is so out of touch with his own humanity that he has no idea how to claw it all back. The loss of his children and his wife because of his own powers triggering has affected him deeply. His failure as leader of the Justice League and the death of Wally West has hit him harder than he would ever let on. He's tried to rekindle some spark of life in himself but he's finding it hard to empathise with the very people he's looking to protect.
TRAITS:
-Espionage: Nathaniel always did have a skill for being secretive. Whilst it's not improved since his time in the military he's capable of keeping things to himself and he's aware that he holds certain Governmental secrets. He isn't afraid to go sneaking around and he's a keen detective as well as being something of a good spy. Now thrust into the public eye this has become something less important but he's capable of holding back information and knowing when to destroy people without using his powers should it ever come to that.
-Patriot: He loves his country it's as simple as that. Nathaniel always did love America both before and after his transformation even now years after he's become Captain Atom. Nathaniel still salutes the flag he still says the pledge of allegiance every morning and he still holds his hand over his heart when singing the national anthem. It's one of his defining personality features and it's become something of a central facet of his life since his return to the world after his powers emerged
-Lover: Since hearing of his wife's remarriage and eventual death Nathaniel has drawn inwards away from physical attraction to women. Though still capable of dating, holding emotional relationships with women and being comfortable with sexuality he finds it hard to truly connect with the people around him. He finds it incredibly hard to be 'more than friends' and his ability to read physical cues has diminished somewhat. Though Nathaniel could fall in love, though he could experience a romantic, even a sexual relationship. It'll take a special lady a lot of time to convince him that he's still human enough to be able to do so.
-Super-friend: He's a loyal man and the type of guy you always want on your side. Nathaniel always sees himself as impartial but honestly he isn't. He might have lost something of his humanity since discovering his powers but he can still be friends with people. He's protective to the point of aggressive over those he cares about and whilst his country comes first, his friends are a close second.
-Disciplined: Nathaniel knows when to hold back and when not to hold back. His military reinforced discipline allows him to maintain control of himself even during the most strenuous situations and though he could if he wanted to let go, he refuses to do so in fear of the damage he might cause should he lose control of his powers. He remains calm and focused under pressure and this veers into his private life and shows a certain cold edge to the way he acts around other people even those he cares about deeply.

Having been among the heroes and villains acquired by Kylstar as an asset, he was imprisoned in a crystalline cell with inhibitor emission orbs removing his abilities.
THE MOON
DECEMBER 1, 15:52 UTC
Captain Atom saw Captain Marvel summon lightning to change his form to Billy Batson, and they noticed that the inhibiting device only affected his hero form. Captain Atom changed his own form to his civilian identity and broke himself free from the crystal prison, shattering the inhibitor before it could adjust to his new form. Now safe, he repowered and broke the inhibitors to Wonder Woman, Superman, and Superboy, and eventually Captain Marvel.
THE MOON
DECEMBER 1, 16:16 UTC
The freed heroes discussed freeing the other prisoners, among which were several criminals, but also those who in the public eye are heroes such as Major Force. Captain Atom objected to freeing him, and as newly elected leader of the League, he pulled rank and decided against freeing the other captives for now, a decision Superman agreed with due to his own conflicts with the likes of Draaga.

THE MOON
DECEMBER 1, 19:36 UST
The heroes had difficulty getting their bearings in the crystalline corridors. Captain Marvel came up with a plan to find the teleporters that brought them to the Moon using Captain Atom's quantum senses to detect high-energy signatures, but the next moment the group was teleported inside a cell. They were addressed by Orb-One, providing translation for First Leader Kylstar, who told them they would remain where they were during their journey. Kylstar's ship then lifted off from the surface of the Moon and headed into space.

After failing to convince Kylstar to return them to Earth, the heroes destroyed the ground beneath them rather than risk the unbreathable air in space. The heroes went along with their objective to find First Leader's teleportation device, only to be teleported to crystallized area with Kylstar. When questioning First Leader's plans to "reprogram" the team, Captain Atom was subsequently knocked across the room by a devastating punch from Kylstar.

THE WATCHTOWER
JANUARY 3, 17:08 EST
Captain Atom calls the new Team.
Captain Atom summoned the senior members of the Team—Nightwing, Miss Martian and Superboy—to a briefing in the Watchtower about a recent alien attack on the UN.
John Stewart explained that Lobo's target, a Krolotean, was a bigger problem than the bounty hunter.
John Stewart and Adam Strange suspected that Kroloteans were behind a recent theft of advanced Zeta-Beam technology on Rann. Captain Atom wanted to send a group of Leaguers to the planet, but Adam Strange revealed they were not welcome there; six were even wanted criminals. Captain Atom then agreed with Nightwing, that the Team should send a Squad instead. He also coordinated a combined League-Team attack on all known Krolotean locations on Earth, based on information provided by Strange.

Captain Atom, Nightwing, Wonder Woman and John Stewart waited for Zeta Squad to return from Rann. Since it was a Team mission, Nightwing handled the debriefing, but Captain Atom listened attentively. WhenAdam Strange offered Sardath's suggestion of a Zeta-Shield, he was concerned that it would impede the League's own Zeta capabilities, but his worries were soon put to rest. What worried him more was the revelation of what the League did on Rimbor. He discussed it with Green Lantern, who would talk to the Guardians about it.

NEW YORK CITY
APRIL 1, POST-21:24 EDT
Meeting in private with the Reach ambassador and Tseng Dangun, Captain Atom inquired as to how long the Reach had actually been on earth before their first public appearance. The ambassador accused Captain Atom of having the Team attack the Reach's research ship. Captain Atom denied the accusation, but Tseng replied he knew about the younger heroes working on behalf of the Justice League. The conversation ended when Captain Atom received a communications message about a situation at the Hall of Justice, where several League and Team members were trapped within a force field surrounding the Hall and battling Despero.
WASHINGTON, D.C.
APRIL 1, POST-21:24 EDT
Captain Atom and Marvel attempt to neutralize the force field.
Captain Atom arrived at the Hall of Justice, now in ruins, and he and Captain Marvel tried to bring down the force field with no success. Zatanna told them her magic didn't work either. The Reach ambassador arrived with Tseng and used a device to remove the force field. He told Captain Atom he was sorry the League had lost its headquarters but the League at least still had the Watchtower—a fact that was not known to Tseng or the general public.
TAOS
APRIL 2, POST-21:08 CDT
At STAR Labs, Captain Atom met with Nightwing and Black Canary. He was unhappy that the Reach had discredited the League and that the ambassador had offered to take Despero into custody, an offer Captain Atom said he couldn't turn down. Canary informed Captain Atom and Nightwing about the Reach's intent to cultivate and weaponize the Meta-Gene. Blue Beetle interrupted the three and, despite protests from Impulse, revealed to the others about a Reach apocalypse Impulse said Beetle would be responsible for, then asked that the Scarab be removed from his body.
THE WATCHTOWER
MAY 23, 21:21 EDT

Captain Atom, Captain Marvel and Green Beetle emerged from a portal opened by Doctor Fate and assaulted the Warworld. Atom informed Nightwing they had Mongul's attention and Nightwing told him the Team had successfully boarded the satellite.
After Mongul unleashed all of the Warworld's missiles upon Earth, Captain Atom and other Leaguers tried to take out as many as they could, but Earth's military had to intervene, as did a number of Reach vessels that had been hiding underwater.
THE WARWORLD
MAY 26, POST-12:40 UTC
As missiles about to launch stopped in their silos, Superboy informed Captain Atom that Mongul had been subdued but it was somebody else whose efforts resulted in Warworld being neutralized.
THE WARWORLD
MAY 27, 06:04 UTC
Captain Atom was present for a briefing with Nightwing, Doctor Fate, Blue Beetle and Green Beetle in which Blue Beetle informed the others about what happened to the rest of The Team. Captain Atom informed everyone that Justice League members would take turns guarding the crystal key chamber to the Warworld.
NEW YORK CITY
JUNE 19, 05:20 EDT
Captain Atom was present a press conference at the United Nations, in which he revealed he had presented new evidence to Secretary-General Tseng, resulting in Tseng rescinding the invitation for the Reach to stay on Earth.
METROPOLIS
JUNE 20, 08:16 EDT
Captain Atom briefs the crowd of heroes.
In a briefing of all available Earth heroes, Captain Atom explained the situation. Blue Beetle supplied Reach-tech eggs, which Luthor infused with a Reach software virus formulated at LexCorp. Since there were twenty sites detected, the forty heroes present would be split into twenty squads, consisting of two people each. One member would run interference against weapons guarding the disruptors, allowing the other to get close enough to plant the virus eggs. Luthor explained that the device would disable the disruptors with a mere touch, and wished the heroes luck.
Captain Atom assigned himself to Alpha Squad, and worked alongside Eduardo Dorado Jr. to successfully defuse a disruptor.
THE WATCHTOWER
JUNE 20, 06:47 MDT
Lucas Carr informed the heroes present, Captain Atom among them, that all twenty disruptors were successfully defused. However, Atom said that they missed one, because the Earth's magnetic field was still in flux. Blue Beetle confirmed this—since it was obscured by the Earth's own magnetic field, he failed to detect a twenty-first device planted in the Arctic.
The crisis was eventually averted through the efforts of Flash, Impulse, and Kid Flash, although Kid Flash perished in the attempt.
THE WATCHTOWER
JULY 4, 21:16 EDT
Captain Atom watched a broadcast where G. Gordon Godfrey gleefully denounced the resigned Tseng Dangun, and endorsed Lex Luthor as the most logical replacement for UN Secretary-General. Superman turned off the broadcast in disgust, not quite accepting the turn of events. On that note, Captain Atom then happily relinquished his position as chairman to Black Canary. She thanked him sarcastically.
When the Team was summoned to the mission room for a face-to-face meeting with members of the League, Captain Atom was among the leaguers present. Batman informed them that they would now operate side-by-side with the Justice League from the Watchtower. Not because Mount Justice was destroyed, but because they earned the right to do so. The League then left the Team to its own devices.
THE FOLLOWING WAS TAKEN FROM THE YOUNG JUSTICE WIKI ALL CREDIT GOES TO THEM. WHAT FOLLOWS IS MY OWN WRITING.
Since the combination of the League and The Team into one area and his stepping down from the leadership of the Justice League has forced Nathaniel into a dark place. No longer the relatively bright and compassionate hero he once was he's struggling with a mid-life crisis that chronologically has come forty years too late. He has no idea how to fill his time, he mopes around and considers what he could have done better to protect Kid Flash and how he could have made up for his strategic failings. He spends hours at a time looking over his plans, checking and rechecking and realising that no matter how he might have played it even with the benefit of hindsight that someone would have had to pay the ultimate price.
Nothing ate him up more than knowing he had failed to protect someone in his care and Nathaniel though he's returned to his duty as a member of the League is looking more and more to the Government for assistance with his problems than he is to his fellow heroes. He's struggled for years with the pressure of maintaining his patriotic duty to his country and his duty to the Justice League as a protector of Earth and honestly Nathaniel doesn't quite know how he'll be able to support both interests in his life. It's become harder and harder for him to be that something more and though his powers haven't waned with age his will to carry on fighting despite the loss of everything he's held dear has diminished significantly. It's going to take something special to pull Captain Atom out of his funk.

RP SAMPLE:
Nathaniel sat in his room in the Watch-tower staring at his reflection in the mirror. It was so very real to see his human form, to see and feel the flesh beneath his fingers, to feel his own heart-beat blood running through his veins and to see his very human face staring back at him. It was a face untouched by the age that had ruined and withered away his family and he disliked it. He was a handsome, strong jawed man with silver hair and bright eyes an envious physique and a pleasant smile and yet he hated himself for being all of those things for surviving the test of time due to little more than good luck. It could have been anyone selected to go upto that goddamned ship and he just happened to be the guy they sent, the guy who had been propelled through time and ended up saved from time. He was billed as the ‘hero of tomorrow’ and he felt like the hero of the past. He had no idea how to use the internet or a DVD player, his brief foray into games consoles had ended with him dismissing the whole thing as childish fantasy and he had found himself in his room sat there with Grant.
Grant mewled at him and he stroked the cat’s head absentmindedly rewarded with a purr. “You don’t see me as just another idiot d’you Grant?” the cat purred again and Nathaniel imagined it was something of a yes. But then he did feed the blasted thing and keep it warm and watered so equally it could have just been a gesture to remind him to fill its bowl before leaving his room again. Standing he reached into a small cupboard above his bed and felt around for one of the pouches. His hand came into contact with something metal and he drew it out with a soft rustle as well as one of the little pouches full of apparently nutritious food that his cat would just love. Tearing the pouch and filling the little bowl for the cat he stared at the metal objects he’d pulled from the cupboard. His medals.
There were four of them. Each one moulded into a shape, each one emblazoned with its own message to remind him what it was. The ribbons were all in perfect condition and each medal was burnished and well maintained and looked after, he must have misplaced them during a move of some sort. “S’been a while.” he said quietly to the inanimate objects and then running his warm, very human fingers over them he felt himself grow cold. These medals had all been won in a war that had long since been over, a war that was remembered in bad movies, by its heart-broken and distraught veterans and by military minds that factored its effects into modern strategic decisions. Vietnam was a world away now and Nathaniel felt that ever too familiar feeling of oddness that he was out of place in modern society. His war was Vietnam and yet he was barely middle aged, in fact he was less than middle aged according to the standard of the day.
He felt far older than that though and in truth he was far older than that. Seventy seven years had been and gone since he had been born and here he was having outlived his entire family and having nothing to show for it except the warmth of patriotism. That was all he had left now, his country and his heroic duty. That was it. Nothing else apart from a cat that needed feeding and team-mates that needed helping and yet because of him, because of his judgement call a boy had died. “Used t’be that you’d bring the mother and Father the letter y’self eh?” he said and looked down at Grant and then ran his fingers over his medals. “Man like me don’ deserve no medals… kid like him though. Jesus Christ. What the hell could I have done better?” placing his medals on his bed and disposing of the empty pouch he exited his room and continued on deeper into the watch tower intending on training.
Perhaps a little fist fighting would help with the guilt.
ANYTHING ELSE? He might seem overpowered but trust me, he's got a lotta stuff flying around in that metal head of his.
