With the Reach sent to trial, The Light split in half and the fall of Darkseid the planet had fallen into a relative peace. The Team had earned a well deserved rest, time to let wounds heal and to move on from the betrayal and loss they had all experienced but, peace only last for so long.
Only months after taking the position in the United Nations Lex Luthor is back at his old tricks, secretly reinstating Cadmus and continuing their genomorph and metagene research. Not only that but Luthor has once again gathered the members of The Light together and formed a new plan, one that would recover their former glory.
The 'partnership' with The Reach had taught them many things but most importantly that if you want something done you can not rely on others to do for you and The Reach had made many mistakes but one thing they did get right was the metagene tampering. With so many potential new heroes roaming the streets and with many countries putting 'meta human legislation’s' to try to deal with the expanding super powered populous, Lex saw a opportunity. That opportunity led him to create the LexCorp Meta Research Center. A hospital that offers aid and help to any person experiencing a power 'awakening' by giving them the best therapy and training available to help them through the difficult transformation and to control their gifts. On the outside the center is a monument to Luthors humanitarian nature, a true testament of his dedication to helping the people of this world but just under the surface lies its true purpose. Using the hoards of meta humans that flood to the institution as his never ending supply of test subjects Luthor's scientist gathers the metas DNA and send the samples to Cadmus where they continue with the research that the Reach had started and where the cloning projects are once again taking place.
Luthor had long since realized that the only way to defeat the Justice League and The Team is to fight fire with fire so to speak. Lex is also painfully aware that he himself or the rest of The Light could not bring down the League single handedly. But, that does not mean other Super's couldn't. With the meta humans at his disposal Lex knows the only way he would ever have that kind of force would be to create his own super powered army.
Using the samples given and splicing them with various other DNA the Cadmus Scientist have started to create once more, using runaways with active or potential meta genes as incubators. The scientist have been able to create a army, specializing each clone to a particular skill: plans for meta foot soldiers that are as strong and durable as Superman and Wonder Woman, meta Air Force with the speed and stealth as the Thanagarians , a meta navy that can survive the deeps of the ocean and has no need for air like the Atlanteans...and so on. With the rest of The Light standing behind him and benefiting from this as well Luthor has taken control and soon he will be ready to showcase his work to the rest of the world.
With the rise in abductions and evidence that suggest that The Light is once again meeting and planning The Team was sent to investigate, finding a surplus of super powered beings that could easily take them down. With this new threat The Team has called together all of its members, prompting Nightwing to return from his leave of absence and retake his position as a team leader. But, they may not be enough and The Team has started to reach out to other meta teens, imploring their help in defeating this new threat.
Will they be enough or will The Light finally gain control?
6 Months Later...
Metahumans have gone from popping up in isolated pockets to appearing in droves. Backed by several key legislators, the US government has started to lobby for a law that would require the metahumans to register themselves, while still in its early stages it has quickly taken the media by storm. Meanwhile, with the increase of foreign metahumans, The Justice League has started to run into friction with various world governments who have thier own ideas on dealing with the "metahuman problem" and do not want the superhero community policing their decisions.Because of this, the League finds themselves in reduced capacity worldwide as questions about their considerable "stockpile" of metahuman members.
The Team has also found themselves facing adversity on all sides. The difficult political climate have forced their missions have become more and more covert in order to avoid international incidents. The metahuman members of The Team find themselves persecuted and treated like criminals even when they try to do good. Worst of all a recent conflict in Gotham left the Teams second in command Barbra Gordon paralyzed and in critical condition.
Meanwhile the Light seems to be gaining strength. A recent prison riot in Belle Reave allowed Black Manta to escape custody and rejoin the heads of The Light. Also the Light has found a replacement for Klarion (who was forced to return to limbo to recover during a prolonged magical battle with members of the League) in the power Amazonian sorceress Circe.
The Team has also finally encountered their opposite number in the Shadow Squad. However when they made the move to get them arrested they discovered a shocking truth. Lex Luthor has made a deal with Amanda Waller in order to turn the Shadow Squad into a black ops unit of the US government and in return for their service, they are immune from prosecution within Us borders, making their sinister doppelgangers untouchable in the eyes of the law.
With the League trying to publicly regain support and enduring public scrutiny and the Team engaging in the covert shadow war with the Light the only question that remains is
How long before these secrets are dragged out of the darkness and into the light?
