37. Hero.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
ALIAS(ES): Superman, Kal-El.

BIRTHPLACE: Krypton.
CURRENT: Metropolis.
FAMILY:
• Ma: Martha Kent, aged 72. Alive.
• Pa: Jonathan Kent, aged 70. Deceased.
• Clone: Conner Kent, aged 7. Alive.
• Clone: Kell-El, aged ?. Alive.• Clone: Match, aged ?. Alive.
• Cousin: Kara Zor-El, aged ?. Alive.
• "Son": Christopher Kent, aged 6-ish. Alive.
ALLIANCE: Justice League.
RANK: Founding Member of the League.
WEAPON: N/A.
POWER: Clark has the powers of Kryptonians, which means he has, well... quite a few is putting it mildly. He has immense control over all of them, unlike other Kryptonians found on Earth. He only has these underneath a Yellow Sun - any exceptions will be noted.Super Strength - Clark is able to lift... virtually anything, to be honest. He has yet to encounter something that can truly withstand his strength. If necessary, he could move entire planets. As a result, he has to be very careful unleashing his strength, and 'lives in a world of cardboard', to put it simply.
Super Speed - Clark is intensely fast, both in the air and on land. It's rumored that he could potentially reverse the Earth's rotation with his speed, and he... doesn't plan on trying that any time soon. As of yet, he hasn't managed a contest with the Flash to see who is faster, but no matter who wins, it will be an extremely close call.
Flight - Fairly basic power. Clark can fly. In the off-chance that he is not underneath a Yellow Sun, he will still possess this power from the yellow ring that he wears.
Invulnerability - It takes a lot to hurt Clark. And I mean a lot. Bullets bounce off of his chest, he could take a bomb to the face and be fine, etc. Magic's really the only thing that'll seriously damage him, if damage him at all.
Super Visions - Clark has a variety of super visions. One, his sight is just incredible, period. He can see better than pretty much any other creature on Earth - no need for the glasses that he always wears! Two, he has heat vision, where he pretty much shoots lasers out of his eyes. Three, he has X-Ray vision, but he cannot see through lead. (Just to not give it its own category, he also has super hearing, too, and can hear pretty much everything, anywhere. It gives him a biiit of a headache sometimes, but he's learned to filter it out.)
Super Breath - Clark has two key types of super breath. One is the plain, normal, well, super breath, in which he can breathe really hard, giant gusts of air and whatnot, and knock people away just by doing it. The other is more common, his freeze breath, where he can freeze things 100% solid. Fairly simple.
Super Stamina - Fitting right into the rest of his powers, Clark can keep going... and going... and going... and going. He doesn't need as much sleep as the average person (to be honest, he doesn't technically need it, but he does enjoy getting a rest), he doesn't need a ton of nutrients from food (hence his constant array of junk food), and he doesn't really wear himself out a lot. Of all of his powers, he can stretch himself to the limit more here - keep him going for long enough and it is possibly he'll be at least mentally and emotionally drained.
Super Mind - Finally, Clark has a super mind. Now, that doesn't mean he's a genius - he doesn't plan on taking Brainiac 5's job any time soon - but he processes things faster and can come to conclusions faster than a normal person. Thankfully, that doesn't help a ton in writing, which is one of the many reasons he likes it. He can also read and absorb things far quicker than the normal person, too! It's pretty handy.
Others - On the off-chance that Clark is on a planet that revolves around a sun of a different color, he'll gain certain powers and lose others (or lose them all, if it's a Red Sun). Furthermore, there are also other Kryptonian powers that he needs to learn from the people of Kandor, such as 'Kryptonian Telepathy', but has yet to gain at this moment.
BLOOD TYPE: N/A.
ORIENTATION: Demiromantic Demisexual.
PET: Krypto the Superdog.
SCARS AND MARKINGS: N/A.
COLOR(S): Red, Blue, and Yellow. (Primarily the first two, however.)
UNIFORM: Contrary to popular belief, Clark doesn't wear a suit. What he does wear is a fairly tight blue top - with the symbol of the 'El' family emblazoned on it - matching blue pants, and a pair of red underwear-like small shorts that go over top and hold them together. Over top of that is a yellow belt - the center of which has what appears to be an 'L' emblazoned on it - and he also has a cape that hooks on his shoulders/neck. On his hand is a small yellow ring that also bears that 'L' symbol, and he wears red boots on his feet that fall to just below the knee. With the exception of his belt and his ring, everything that Clark wears was made by Ma Kent.
DESCRIPTION: Clark is a tall man, standing at over six feet tall, and big. When he's Superman, it's clear that it's all muscle, but when he's his normal Clark Kent self, he's a lot more hunched in, slouched, and it isn't obvious. He's tan, clearly spending a lot of time outdoors in the sun, with short black hair that falls into a slight curl in the front at times. His eyes are a startling, bright blue, covered by his glasses when he's Clark, but his bright smile eclipses everything. Being a Kryptonian, he bears no scars or tattoos.
PLAY-BY: Christopher Reeve.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fear: Losing the people he cares about.
Desire: He wants to be able to help and inspire everyone - no one is too far gone for help.
HABITS: When nervous or hesitant, Clark tends to hunch in on himself, fiddling with whatever he's holding, and adjust his glasses. In fact, as Superman, he's reached up to adjust his glasses, only to find them not present.
PET PEEVE: He gets a bit annoyed when he - as Superman, that is - is underestimated, but doesn't really have many pet peeves. He strongly dislikes perpetual villains, though.
STRENGTHS:
•Has a contingency plan in place for any time a fellow superhero comes over to his house - from their favorite food to their favorite show.
•Kind, trusting, and is just generally a person that most accept.
WEAKNESSES:
•Physical: Magic, Kryptonite, Lack of Sunlight for overly long, Non-Yellow Sunlight, etc.
•He's too willing to hold back, too willing to hope someone will change and trust them. His personality is easy to exploit.
TRAITS: Clark, first and foremost, is kind. He tries to give a sunny smile to everyone, to cheer them up or help them when he can, and is generally accepting - skin color, sexuality, powers, past, he'll accept you, help you, and do what you need. He's a people pleaser, but in a good way - why would he want to make people upset? Unfortunately, that can mean that he's walked on sometimes, a living doormat, and that he tends to keep his fears and worries to himself, unless he's close to someone. He doesn't want to trouble them. He's mentally strong, too, never giving up and working hard on all that he can, but he's not a solo person. Clark needs his company, needs his friends, and he couldn't bear to have it otherwise.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
HISTORY: Clark Kent had an... unusual early life, to say the least. Born 'Kal-El' on the planet Krypton, he was born to a dying world. It wouldn't be long - though it was unknown to most of the populace - until there was no longer a planet to live on. His father, Jor-El, had forewarning, and managed to send the infant off in a spaceship (he later found out that his cousin, Kara Zor-El, was also sent away), travelling far away... until it landed in Smallville, Kansas, where a perfectly normal, perfectly kind couple decided to adopt him, and take him in as their own, keeping his origin a secret.
It was probably the best thing that could have happened to him.
Over the years, it became quite clear that Kal-El - Clark Kent, now, he no longer knew his birth name, and he would forever be more Clark than Kal - was... different. The sunlight never burning him was the least of his parents' concerns; it was obvious that the alien child they had taken in was very much alien. He had super speed, super strength, heat vision, and as he aged, it seemed more and more powers cropped up. He didn't know how to... to handle them. Yes, he had friends, wonderful friends whom he still cherishes and loves dearly to this day, but he didn't dare tell all of them, didn't dare talk frequently about his powers, and it was a little lonely. Sure, there was the occasional superhero that you could hear of, even in the middle of Nowhere, Kansas, but they weren't like him, not quite, and he couldn't go talk to them.
That was when he met the Legion of Superheroes. It was a fair, a simple fair where he was a little upset and a little less wary than he should have been, and there was a girl who could read minds, with pink eyes. A boy who could inflate himself. A genius robot, who was green. And they were from the future? It was too much to believe, too much all at once, but they said they could return him right when he left... so Clark Kent ventured forward into the 31st century. It was so foreign, so strange - and was this Superman that everyone looked up to, that everyone idolized... really him?
It was terrifying, actually. That he was so important, that he positively influenced these people, even 1000 years in the future... But they were kind. They were wonderful, and kind, and all had superpowers, so Clark stayed. He made friends - he had adventures - golly, he even had a little bit of romance, wouldn't Lana be shocked to hear about that! Even though it ended with a friend dying - one that he didn't know very well, not like Tinya or Imra or Garth or Querl, but a friend nonetheless, Clark almost didn't want to go back. But he missed his Ma and Pa. Missed his friends. Missed even Whitney, unpleasant as he could be sometimes, and so he returned after a year spent in the future. Maybe more, he wasn't sure, he didn't keep track (it made it all the worse, missing things), but he had been gone a good, long while. A sorrowful farewell, and he was back in Smallville.
Of course, Clark told his parents everything. Why wouldn't he? It was all super important stuff! And even if it was weird, coming from saving the world and proudly showing off his powers (okay, maybe not proudly), returning to his mundane existence in Smallville, his nice existence... Clark enjoyed it. He enjoyed finishing off high school, deciding that he wanted to be a journalist, to write wonderful things about the world and make a difference that way, too, and he enjoyed writing so much anyway-! And with another tearful farewell - though it was more symbolic than a true farewell, as it would be very easy for him to stop by home, but he was still moving out on his own - Clark was off to Metropolis.
Golly, wasn't it weird not saying the 'New' in front of it! Not for another millennium, had to remember!
He didn't betray though, instead just showing how ridiculously nervous he was. Thankfully, he already had an 'in' at the Daily Planet - he had been an intern the previous summer, after all, them and his school working great together. He managed to get on as a paid intern, this time, and while it wasn't quite the writing he wanted... Well, it was a really great start. And when he decided to officially make himself Superman, and then could write a report on himself as Clark? Promotion, and cementing his spot at the Planet, too! Too bad Lois didn't like it, heh.
Still! It was nice. It was so nice and freeing to be Superman again, to soar through the skies, not turn a blind eye on any evil-doing that was headed his way, and gosh, he was even managing to make friends! Jimmy and Lois as Clark, of course, as well as old friends like Whitney, but even as Superman, he was meeting people like Wonder Woman and Batman! It was so great to meet other heroes again!
Even if they didn't act anything like the ones back home. There were so many of them - He didn't know them as well as he could, because of the fact that they all had secret identities and operated in different places, but he still thought of them as sort-of friends, and that was okay, right?
And speaking of the ones 'back home'... The Legion needed him again, a little bit after he started operating as a hero. A villain from the 41st century had gone into the 31st century, and he had to help, and there was a clone - a clone of his! - from the 41st century, as well. It was long, and hard, and Clark still really wasn't sure of everything that went down, it felt like there were holes in his memory, but... After nearly dying, and nearly having to kill his best friend, Brainiac 5... They won, but his robotic friend was now organic. (Everyone kept slipping up and calling him human - nope, Querl insisted it was two different things!) And he decided to leave the Legion.
While it didn't affect Clark as much - it wasn't like he could stay in the future, even if he was a permanent member of the team, and they'd all be sure to stay in contact - but... it was his best friend, Querl was, and he knew that he wasn't going to be with friends. So, even as he left, he gave the Coluan an open invitation to come visit him or stay with him at any time. Friends forever, yeah?He gave one to Kell-El, too, in case the clone couldn't figure out what to do in the 41st century, but he wasn't sure if he'd be taken up on that ever.
Still, he had done what he could, and it was good to be back home. Home. He had two homes, almost, one a millennium in the future, and one in the past. One that was soon to get very, very dangerous - but end up okay. When he was 24 (legally, at least, registered age is different than actual), the earth was invaded by aliens - not the fine ones like him, or- or Martian Manhunter, whom he would soon meet, but Appellaxians, seven of them. It took seven heroes to take them all down, one for each of them, and it was Superman who made the suggestion: form a team! It seemed natural to him, having worked with the Legion of Superheroes for so long, even if it surprised others.
And, well... they agreed. He wasn't hurt that he wasn't the first leader - even if he knew what he was doing with leading a team a bit more, Batman was elected fair and square, and he was sure he'd be good - but he got to work with Green Lantern to make their hideout, and it was... It was genuinely fun. Clark relished being on a team again - it took a little bit to convince himself to tell some of the team his secret identity, especially as they added more people and it grew, but he considered all of them to be his friends. It was nice to be around other aliens, too.
It was a fun secret, but... everything changed in 2006, when he was 27 - for one, the League was discovered. They had to go forward, and Clark was glad, during that time, that Batman knew what he was doing. It was him who led the forging of treaties, who figured out their legality, and who made sure they were all alright. It was him who upgraded the security, too - and Clark barely resisted asking Querl to show up and help. He... didn't even know how he was doing, as of then. It was sad. The other important aspect was... sidekicks. Partners. Whatever you wanted to call them. Batman gained the first, that year, a young boy called 'Robin', and the idea was just so... so foreign to Clark!
There were teams, there were patrols, there were equals who went on missions together, but... sidekicks? It blew his mind, even as the others considered such. Thankfully, he had a distraction soon enough: two friends, coming back from the future to visit. Kell-El and Brainiac 5. It was such a relief to see them and know they were alright - two people who were pretty much family - that Clark couldn't stop smiling, no matter how hard he tried (which, admittedly, wasn't very hard). Both of them had to be introduced to Ma and Pa (fully introduced, in Querl's case), and he even went on a few superheroing missions with Kell-El, though he made sure not to do it in places like the U.S. He didn't really fancy explaining his friends to any of the League-ers, though he was pretty sure that Batman already knew they existed. Just... not who they were. (At least that Kell-El existed - Querl wasn't much for socializing and being a hero, right now.)
They stayed for quite some time - at least a year, Clark didn't quite keep track, that was Querl's job. He wasn't one to avoid the tough conversations; Kell and him discussed the 41st century, and how he felt like there wasn't anything for him to do. Clark listened - told him how there were always things, just small, but if he wants more, he's always welcome to stay here or go help the Legion, they wouldn't turn him away - and made sure he was okay. Querl poured out his heart and soul over his troubles, how he felt terrible after everything that happened, and kind of useless, and how he hated being organic, Clark, he hated it hated it hated it-!
Lots of hugs. Clark gave lots and lots of hugs.
Eventually, though, Kell-El had to leave. He took what Clark said to heart, and was going to try a bit more in the 41st century. If not, he'd head back to the Legion - the clone was willing to admit it, but Clark knew that he missed them. Querl, though, stayed for longer, and the Kryptonian felt his relationship with him... beginning to shift. They had been best friends, previously - the closest there could be, he had felt, before everything just... went horribly, and now they were once more, but... more. They were honestly family, and the legendary hero - though he still couldn't believe that he was one, he still wasn't even thirty - didn't want him to go.
He was willing to be there for him, to hold him while he cried, to shake him awake from nightmares and even hold him in his arms while he slept, to make sure he figured out everything he hadn't solved about being organic, and being there for the other to test his experiments out upon. Querl kiiind of needed someone pretty invulnerable to test the harsher and more dangerous things out on. Eventually, though, all good things must come to an end, and the Coluan swept off, back to the future.
Just a year later, Clark was really really wishing that he had stayed. Because... it was a night, a simple July 4 in 2010, and... he had a clone. A clone. It was somehow more startling now than when he had been younger, and he was sure it was for several reasons. Kell-El had been in the future, and... was drastically different. He didn't want any help, didn't even want companionship, though Clark was certainly willing to give that to him, as was the rest of the time.
Superboy, though... looked at him with such expectant eyes, and wanted him to be a father. A father! Maybe if the others hadn't pressured him to be just that - a father - and had gone with literally anything else, a mentor, a friend, anything... He could have done it. But a father? No. No, he couldn't, and Clark had to stay away, stay away for his own sanity.
Especially as he wasn't a perfect clone. Oh, Batman had done the research, Batman knew all, his wonderful friend Bruce (though he still couldn't get over how BRUCE gave him PARENTING advice) - Superboy was only half a clone. Technology wasn't as good as it was in the 41st century, and he was made by his enemies, made by the one that he knew far too well - Luthor - and was half of Luthor's DNA. Clark wasn't sure he trusted the boy, and given everyone was trying to make him his father... He felt terrible, he did, and knew that he was acting horribly towards poor Superboy, but he couldn't make himself do it. The Kryptonian knew he would regret it later (if he turned out to be trustworthy, like Kell-El), but... not now.
It took losing time and waking up to find out that he had been mind-controlled, and that Superboy, instead of siding with others and taking advantage of this time where all the prominent heroes were out for the count... He had saved them. He had helped, and he had saved, and... Clark was an ass. And he didn't swear lightly, either, gosh!
The first step came with introducing himself - not as Superman, he knew that already, but as Clark Kent. To introduce him to Ma and Pa, to show him where he worked, let him stay at his apartment for a night. To tell him about his adventures, what felt like years ago, with the Legion of Superheroes, and the friends he still had. (He didn't mention the fact that he had Kell-El - he wasn't sure how that would go over, so Clark thought that he would bring up the other clone when he. Well. Actually showed up.) It was... nice. And it made him regret his actions a lot, too, which he knew that he would - poor Conner. He didn't know how many times he had apologized to him.
Still, they had plenty of time - in fact, Clark could feel their relationship changing over the years. First careful friends, then mentors, cousins, and brothers. (It helped that Ma adored him, and used every opportunity possible to feed him up.) By 2017... Hovering on the verge of son? Ward, perhaps, would be the best term - he wasn't really sure what Conner thought of it. He shared his thoughts, though.
(Having Conner meet Querl was one of the more entertaining things - one of his oldest friends, the most intelligent being in the universe, especially when Conner had already encountered Brainiac? Fun. And Whitney's reaction to him having a clone was as entertaining as usual.)
He's glad for where he is in his life - with his hero-ing, on the Justice League, with his friends, both in the future and here, and now, with his new family member. Even an invasion last year didn't change that, though... he had to be there for poor Barry. It was hard to lose people, to lose others - he would know, having lost Pa two years ago - but... Wally was young. Pa had been old, past his prime - not that it didn't make it hurt any less - but Wally... he had been young, with so much of his life ahead of him, and...
Clark had needed to comfort too many people, recently.

RP SAMPLE: Today had been a good day. He had caught a girl falling from a tree in Russia, saved a woman from drowning in Australia, and had managed some good ol' patrolling in Metropolis. Even with his hearing, he had to patrol - he knew a certain Coluan who would have his head if he didn't manage that much. Nothing seemed to be going on - not much, at least, not anything that required his attention- No, wait, there was a train going off the rails in North Dakota. A car stuck in the path of a mudslide. A sudden large wave over in India.
The world was at peace for a moment - quick, whisk that elderly couple out of the path of a tornado - and Clark smiled, pleased, giving his ears one last check around, before it was time to head to the headquarters. It was always a good place to check out if he was needed - given he couldn't filter through everything, especially - and he could always see if the Team needed any help. There were a few members that he didn't think he had properly met yet...
Before the man of steel could figure out where to go, easily darting into the headquarters with an ease that peeved Batman - his tools where easy to get past, sorry! - he caught a heartbeat. A yawn. A twitch, and the swish of air that signaled wings. Shayera or Katar, then, and it was coming from... ouch, the monitor room. The monitor room wasn't one that Clark ever really had to deal with, even when he had been a Legionnaire. It was a 'waste of resources', someone had once said, decades ago (a millennium in the future was more like it).
Shaking the fond memory away, but keeping his smile in place, the reflection that it was really boring caused him, to, well... stop by. He might as well, right? The doors slid easily open as the Kryptonian walked, smile on his face as he found himself immediately greeted by his friend before he even fully entered. "It's swell to see you too, Shayera," Clark replied immediately, bemused, but let the doors slide shut behind him as he crossed the distance to stand in front of his fellow Leaguer. "Is it that bad in here?"
ANYTHING ELSE? Not really? Except that the history writing is all my own.
