December 10th 2017
Dinah walked through the halls of the Watchtwoer, hands in her pocket as she tried to take a breather. Today had been a long day for her; she had made a public appearance at a children's hospital, a press conference to maintain public opinion of the teams, updating the President on there current case and threat level, training two of the members of The Team, and still taking the time to try and patrol Star City. Dinah sat down in a common area of the ladies' dorm, in a recliner, kicking off her heel and removing jacket, setting both next to her as she tried to relax and not fall asleep.

Shayera had just gotten back from a mission a bridge had started to collapse and she and Caption Atom had been sent to help rescue anyone stuck on the structure before it fell. It wasn’t necessarily dangerous work. Well, it was and it wasn’t; they certainly have been through more dangerous and risky missions but nothing was too small for the League. Thou, now that she was back and the adreliane had worn off she had noticed a nice hot pain in her shoulder. Even for someone as strong as her carrying all those people back and forth took it’s toll and right now she was looking forward to sitting for a bit before she was needed again.
Working in shifts had it’s perks. She got to get away from home, see some friends she wouldn’t otherwise see and get to use the Watch Towers tech. Namely the state of the art training area and the sauna. It was a home away from home for the Thanagarian and lately she didn’t mind spending the time away from earth, things at home were getting a little tense and the less time spent there was better.
After debriefing on the happenings earthside Shayera made her way toward the dorms to unwind and as she entered she saw that she was not alone. Sitting in a chair was Dinah looking about the same as Shayera felt right now. ”Rough day?” She asked as she ducked her wings through the door and moved to take a seat next to the other leaguer.

Dinah looked over groggily at Shayera, trying to hide the fact that such a motion was draining for her right now. While she was proud that she managed to come this far with very few powers, some days she fantasized about being able to go all day and night, no matter what. "I think I might have tried to overbook today" Dinah admitted, closing her eyes briefly as she leaned her head back against the rest. "I really need to learn how to delegate." Dinah decided to change the subject.
"You feeling alright? How did your mission with Captain Atom go?"

Shayera sighed in understanding as she slipped into the chair and sat back. She felt Dinahs pain and even if Shayera didn't do as much or take on as much as the Canary did she understood where it was coming from. "You need an assistant" She joked should take one of the young ones, I bet they would jump at the chance." There had to be someone on the Team that would want some political experience and that could be a extra set of hands for the busy bird.
When Dinah turned the subject back to her the Hawk shrugged her shoulders. "It went as well as it could. We couldn't keep the bridge from collapsing but we did manage to get the people clear. But, it's nothing compared to what you did all day I'm sure. " Honestly Shayera couldn't imangine doing what Dinah did. Dealing with people in a calm and diplomatic way like Dinah did with the United Nations was something that Shayera knew she could never do, she didn't have the patience for that.

"Believe me, I would gladly take one hour of helping to save civilians from a collapsing bridge than spend three hours going over finances with someone who's name I barely remember. I'd jump at the chance to spend all day in the field."
Dinah listened to Shayera's suggestion of taking on an assistant, mulling it her in her head. She had never thought about taking on a protege of her own, but it wouldn't be the worst idea ever. "Yeah, any member of The Team probably would jump out of their tights to try and help me out. Heck, even the junior Leaguers would love it" she admitted with a smile. Or maybe she just needed to do less? No, Dinah would never admit that she was doing everything possible. She neither wanted to step down from her position nor stop nurturing the team.
"Shay, have you ever considered taking on a sidekick? Someone you could teach and act as your backup..."

Shayera thought the question over carefully. It had never occurred to her to take on a side kick of her own, then again it wasn't like there was anyone else like her on this planet except for Katar. "You know, I never really thought about it. Everyone seems to have someone thou, don't they? Superman has Superboy and Supergirl. Batman has his whole gaggle of kids, Wonder Woman has Wonder Girl, Arrow has his own little clan. Atom has Bumblebee, Black Lightning and Static, Flash.. even J'onn has Miss Martian. Seems like everyone has one except for us."
Of course all of these people had something in common with their sidekicks but Dinah was a expect fighter, she trained the Team herself. "Even you had Wildcat to help you when you were coming up. It might not be such a bad idea you know?'

Dinah smiled to herself as she remembered her training with Wildcat. Him lovingly correcting her boxing stance and telling her that Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were not accurate portrayals of martial arts. Him convincing her that she should never try to record her Cry into some kind of bomb. His annoyance when she showed him her cleavage exposing variation on her mother's suit. She figured she really should find someone she could mentor personally.
"It really wouldn't" Dinah said, smiling. "Any idea where you find a sidekick? Is there a sidekick's r us somewhere? If so Bats must have them on speed dial."

Well there seems to be a surplus of them at Mount Justice. I'm sure you could take your pick Shayera had heard that the Team was starting to expand their numbers. With so many of them having left or retired they were looking to fill the empty spaces and it seemed like they didn't have any trouble doing that.
"Or, you can always borrow one of Oliver's." she teased. Next to Batman the Emerald Archer had the most sidekicks to speak of. "Must be nice.." Shayera said with a sigh as she sat back more in the chair. It's almost like having your own children and your own little family. Passing on your legacy.
Well now she was just making herself feel sad. Shayera wanted a family but Katar never seemed that interested, or he was too busy and always had an excuse. Then there was John...she would be lying if she said the thought hadn't crossed her mind but she was going to blame that on all the time they had been spending together lately. Had to be the reason for the feelings she was starting to feel too. Just natural, nothing to worry about...
Realizing that this could lead to a conversation she didn't really feel like having Shayera decided to change the subject or at least put the conversation back on Dinah. Maybe you could open a mentor program, for any of the kids that don't have a mentor. I'm sure others would be interested in helping too. It would probably be good for all of us to have someone to teach.

"I'm not honestly sure how me and Artemis would work together without anyone else," Dinah admitted. "But I will take the time to see if anyone needs a more personal touch. We were lucky that the kids we have right now do have mentors for the most part, but eventually we'll have to call with someone who doesn't."
Dinah didn't relish that thought, but it was always a possibility. Being a superhero is a dangerous job even when you are an adult who knows what they're doing. But kids? Kids just assume that they are immortal, and last time Dinah checked most weren't. No, a kid superhero needs someone to push them in the right direction, and to watch their back to make sure they didn't get electrified.

Shaywera nodded, she agreed but at the same time most of the kids on the team knew what they were doing. They were seasoned heroes and had been up against their fair share of obsticals and the Team had handled themselves and then some when half of the league had been away on trail. "I'm sure if we put it out there that there are Leaguers available for mentor ship that some of the kids will come forward for help. It's worth a shot" What would Shayera do if some kid came to her? She wouldn't even know where to begin with that but she supposed she would cross that bridge when she came to it if that ever happened.
"Besides spreading yourself thin what else have you been up to? Hardly ever get to see anyone up here anymore. It always seemed that when Shayera was on watchtower duty others wernt and vice versa. Sure she saw a lot of people but no one she really talked too much.

Dinah made a mental note to create a signup sheet for the mentorship program - after she got about seven or eight hours of sleep. Sleep is nice. Sleep is good. What Shayera said about spreading herself too thin wasn't that far off honestly, even if she would never admit it.
"I've been trying to keep tabs on possible new recruits for when the time comes to vote on them. I'd tell you my progress if I could remember any of their names. Or codenames. I've also been trying to make sure that the team is ready in case something bad happens like last year. And most of my spare time has been spent with Oliver." A nice quiet night in Star City sounded appealing to her. "How are you doing?"

The other woman shrugged a little as the question was shot back at her "oh you know, same as always. When I'm not here I'm working back earth side, criminals never sleep it seems." Her and Katars private eye business was never short on clients, no matter where you turned it seemed like someone was doing something they shouldn't be doing. "I think the only fun I've had lately in the time I've gotten to spend with John." As soon as the words left her lips Shayera regretted them. It's not like the two had done anything wrong....not really but saying it out loud and in front of others seemed taboo. Mostly because people talked, not that Dinah would but one never escaped the gossip when there were so many people crammed into one space. "But, you and Oliver...everything going ok there?" Yeah, real smooth transition there Shayera... she thought to herself but tried to play it cool.
