Date: 22nd of Sept Click. The window was the easy part Seven knew, next came getting into the building unseen and without leaving a trace. With a twist he pulled himself into the colder hallway that led to the library. Libraries he had found out held great sources of information and one of the best of these places was in Metropolis Uni. He had heard it mentioned during a tour in a place called a museum. Another place that was supposed to be full of knowledge but instead was just full of objects and items that had no context to them. An old pot taught him nothing except that they were held in some sort of regard by being old.
So the male stalked his way along the hallway, the security system was easily thwarted and the few students he was aware of were simply avoided. Talk of tests and teachers caught his ears but until he understood what those were he ignored them for now. Finding the library took awhile, he wasn't really sure what one was or where it was located so a few trips into empty classrooms and broom closets ensued.
After the second closet and fifth classroom he pushed open a double set of doors into a room filled with shelves with items all along them, uniform mostly in their size and shape. Hundreds of them, Seven had the exact number as soon as he finished looking over the room but something wasn't right. He didn't feel any more knowledgeable.
There must be a trick to the knowledge, so he picked one of the items from the shelf. Paper and ink, lots of scribbles in the same patterns that he saw everywhere else but none were words he recognised. Seven had only a basic ability to read, words that were important to his function only. Putting the book back, he took another and put it back and he did this over and over. Only able to recognise some of the things inside was starting to cause a new emotion to build up inside of him. Annoyance and Frustraction.
With a thump he slammed the last book into the hole it came from and looked around the room at the darkened place. Was this supposed to be knowledge, all the paper and scribbles. This didn't teach him anything. Nothing to be gained here except the feeling growing in his stomach. Was that what he was to learn? A horrible gut sensation? "Mommy, this place sucks. Can we get ice cream or go to the movies instead?" The voice belonged to Martha Green, eleven years old and not a fan of museums. He hadn't understood her tone before but now he did. Places of learning were useless, they taught nothing.

[/i][/b]M'gann's voice sang softly as she stepped out of the girl's change room and out into the hallways of the school, headset around her ears listening to Taylor Swift's Blank Spaces. " Magic, madness, heaven, sin Saw you there and I thought Oh my God, look at that face You look like my next mistake..."Music was absolutely like magic and anyone saying otherwise has to be def. It was eerily hypnotic and sometimes the purely melodic could at times bring one to tears but it also had this unbelievable way of not only getting in your head to repetitively sing that song but sometimes it even got you to dance or at least bob one's head to the beat like an autonomic response. Of course when it came to M'gann it wasn't involuntary, she loved music, singing and dancing and coming out of Cheerleading practice just hyped that need to move to music even more. So there she was moving down the hallway with her gym bag slung across her shoulder housing her cheerleading uniform and gear; glittering pompons hanging from the end of her bag in the Bulldogs' colours of blue and silver. " New money, suit and tie I can read you like a magazine Ain't it funny, rumors fly And I know you heard about me So hey, let's be friends I'm dying to see how this one ends."Her red hair was no longer up in a high ponytail and instead left at loose waves down her back that bounced freely as she danced down the near empty hallways singing softly with a smile and a lilting gliding steps. She probably looked goofy with faux eyeglasses and all dancing down the hallways but it was later in the evening most people had already left campus to go have dinner or just head home so it wasn't like anyone really saw her or at least not a lot of the student population; not that M'gann cared really. Plus eyeglasses were cool accessories now and she liked the whole 'Femme Clark Kent' look she had going at the moment. Cheer practice had ended but M'gann had a paper due in two weeks plus she needed a place to study and the library had less distractions and NO TV to pull her away from studying or doing homework so normally she would head into the library after practice to get at least a few of her assignments done. "So it's gonna be forever Or it's gonna go down in flames You can tell me when it's over If the high was worth the pain." her soft lilting voice sang as she moved into the library and lowered her voice considerably to a very soft barely audible whisper of a song. It almost felt like hallowed ground the way things were much quieter. Not deathly quiet but there was definitely less noise made which probably added to most people's stigma of a library being Dullsville. M'gann never found it boring though. Books held story and mystery and just like music can sometimes just suck you in. She learned a lot about Human's and their culture from their books and why it was that M'gann was majoring in History. Sure she could have taken something cool like Biochem or Engineering but that wasn't where her heart was. M'gann wanted to learn more about Humans and what better way than learning about their past in an effort to gain more insight on them presently. Yes psychology was another front runner but being a telepath gave her insights on the human psyche that no book could and M;gann was more drawn to the stories of the Human's past. "Hi Mrs Green!" M'gann greeted the librarian and her young eleven year old daughter when she entered pulling away her headset momentarily as she greeted the two and awaited their replies. "Hey Marty.""Hi" the twelve year old moped. "Mommy, this place sucks. Can we get ice cream or go to the movies instead?" M'gann chuckled at the young girl's lack of enthusiasm at being in a library. "Sucks?! Are you kidding me? This place is full of stories far better than any movie can come up with. In fact most movies take their story lines from books, hardly anything on film is original anymore. They take everything from books, like Harry Potter, The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, Twilight, Mortal Instruments, Divergent even the Hobbit are all based on books."The twelve year old simply rolled her eyes at M'gann unconvinced at the awesomeness that was the bound pages. Ok true some books were snore fests like Atlas Shrugged, but there were gems, others that were compelling and very telling as well. Sadly though M'gann knew when not to bother pushing an issue. "Hi Megan. Another late night studying?" Mrs. Green asked as she was putting a few books away while her daughter sulked. "Probably, I have a paper to write." M'gann confessed as she moved further into the library resuming her soft lyrical hum as she started to gather a few books only to hear the slam of a book being put back into a shelf at the opposite end of her and judging from the emotion emanating from the other side of the shelf she was standing at, the person was extremely frustrated; she could feel it. Amber eyes peered through the space between books and shelf to the frustrated looking young man on the other side. "Was the the book really that bad?" she joked trying to maybe lessen the person's frustration. Whatever it was couldn't be that bad, could it? Coming around the corner M'gann offered to help, the library was practically like a third home to her; the gym was the second where she trained with the cheerleading squad. So she knew her way around the library and could find whatever book a person was looking for and M'gann misunderstood the young man's frustration as not being able to find the book he wanted. Coming around the corner to face the frustrated dark haired young man she smiled. "What are you looking for?" she asked thinking him looking for a specific title of a book. "Maybe I can help you find it." she offered with a friendly warm smile and a helpful tone.[/div] [/ul][/font][/font] tag VII word count 986 [/div] notes Thanks for the thread XDlyrics Dance with the Devil by Breaking Benjamin credit Rae of Sunshine! of Caution 2.0 made this temp!

When the eyes appeared one the other side of the shelf, Seven tilted his head slightly. It was an unusual color. It also was not something he expected to see on the other side of the shelf. The noise was something he could not forgive himself for, he was supposed to be here under the concept of stealth and had let a rising sensation distracted him. "What are you looking for?" she asked thinking him looking for a specific title of a book. "Maybe I can help you find it." she offered with a friendly warm smile and a helpful tone. And now she was right there, as was the usual his eyes darted quickly from side to side as he assessed the person in front of him. Average build, leaning towards athletic. Body language is friendly, non hostile. Wrong, something is not right with body language. Breathing is not right. Something is wrong with target. The thoughts came thick and fast as Seven tried to work out why this person wasn't right. Nothing obvious to most but the little details, the things that Seven read like most would a book were off. "Help you?" Seven mixed the words around but it was definitely Megan's voice that spoke back and tone. "Looking for information." The later part was a mix of her voice for the first few words and the last belong to a man Seven had overheard in the museum. If he couldn't work out what was wrong, he would need more data. Best way to get information was to engage the target and access more. A new puzzle had caused the frustration to fade, as his mind moved to deal with a new issue. How could a human not be a human? Unaware that his constant looking at her could be misread Seven continued to focus his attention on the Martian in human disguise. She was dressed fairly normally but there was those odd things hanging from her bag. His eyes briefly went to the pompoms. Briefly trying to work out what purpose the strange material and design was used for. So many things he had to learn, things he assumed that everyone else was aware off. The frustration was starting to come back again. His thoughts racing as he tried to work out the information in front of him.
Information inclusive. Not normal. Unable to determine. Need more Data.
Seven didn't have much of a mental shielding, his thoughts were fairly clear and broadcast. Not that he considered that sort of thing but then he had never met a telepath before.

"Help you?" the young man's voice sounded, a mix of words but it was definitely Megan's voice that spoke back in tone and cadence. The young Martian blinked in surprise.
"Did you just -" her question was shelved for the moment when he spoke again this time not in really sounding like her voice though the nuance of it was there at the beginning. That was kinda surreal; hearing your own voice come out of a full grown man.
"Looking for information." The later part was a mix of her voice for the first few words and the last sounding more like a man.
"Uhm ok well the library is the best place to get information." M'gann started again trying to be polite but the guy was a little 'off' especially with his constant looking at her.
He continued to focus his attention on the young Martian who simply tried to politely smile and pretend like he wasn't staring and looking her over. It was a good thing in some ways that she was telepathic as his loud thought projecting were not creepy pervy thoughts cause then she would have cut their interaction short. Curiously though he seemed to pick up on the fact that she was not 'normal' where most people didn't know the difference. In some ways the young man before her seemed perceptive but in other ways he seemed unknowing or clueless. It was a strange dichotomy.
M'gann caught the young man's eyes briefly going to the pompoms in her bag and judging from the look of concentration he was trying to work out what purpose the strange material and design. She couldn't help but chuckle as she pulled out the glittery ribbons like strands bound together.
"These are my pompoms." she said shaking them to show how they sounded and glittered with the lights in the room. "I use them for some of my cheer routines. I'm part of the squad. Goooooo Bulldogs!" she beamed though he didn't seem to have a clue what she was talking about.
"I'm guessing you've never seen a Cheerleader before?" M'gann said looking at the man for clues of recognition.
"No? Well my name is M'gann." she putting her pompoms back in her bag and holding her hand out for the young man to shake. "What's your name?"

"Seven." He said in another voice, one that was his own. Cheerleader. That was what she said she was and that she was part of a squad. Cheerleaders then it seemed were a squad of humans who were not quite human and used pompoms for some sort of routine. Being part of her squad seemed to make her happy. Made sense, being part of a greater whole made people work more efficiently and cared about their progress and commitment. Yet from how she was acting Cheerleaders did not seem dangerous in the traditional sense. The female did not give off any sort of hostile vibe at all. Something he had found everyone did in some way.
"M'gann." He said the name and attached it to his assessment profile. Now he had a designation for the information he was gather. Much like a psyche profile or database entry. Looking at the books he gave them a moments thought before turning back to her. He had forgotten a standard greeting. "It is a pleasure to meet you." he said in the voice of doorman he had observed at the front of a hotel. Briefly he considered going to open the door for her but as none was within arms reach he decided it was not required.
She had confirmed that this was a place of information but so far all he had done was learn a name and found a puzzle to solve. Perhaps he was not using the library correctly to acquire the knowledge contained inside it. Perhaps then, as this cheerleader seemed to know the secrets of the room she could unlock them for him?
"Give me the tour hot stuff, I want to see everything. Gotta get my moneys worth." The voice was from a texas man, Seven had found out later his name was Chuck. Chuck had a habit of addressing every woman he met by some sort of flirty label. Seven had been part of the same museum tour as Chuck. Chuck had been thrown off the tour after grabbing the tour guides rear. Seven hadn't seen that which was probably for the best at this point in time.
Lifting a book he offered it too her, nothing incredibly fancy, a simple encyclopaedia. Probably would have helped his case if it was the right way up or around but seeing as he couldn't understand the words it looked just fine to him. "Cheerleading Unit mission is to breach and disperse information"
His thoughts were more or less how he spoke, the concepts where there but he didn't have the words to express what he was after. So he fitted phrases or parts of conversations based on his limited knowledge.

"Seven." the young man had answered.
"Your name is Seven?" she confirmed. "If you'd have said Seven of Nine I would have asked if your parents were Trekkies, but ok, Seven it is."
It was an odd name to have but then again M'gann wasn't exactly ultra norm either so really who was she to judge. Gwenyth Paltro named her kid Apple so really Seven was no different by M'gann's understanding of Human names. It was odd but not the strangest she's encountered.
"M'gann." Seven then repeated as if trying to commit it to memory.
"Yeah it's kind of a weird pronunciation so most around here just call me Megan." she replied. "It might be easier for you to call me Megan."
M'gann then noticed his eyes were looking at a set of books behind her and she instinctively looked back at them as well only he suddenly turned his attention back at her then abruptly spoke out. "It is a pleasure to meet you." he said in a different sounding voice again which made M'gann wonder what was up with the voice changes? Was it unintentional or was he just being quirky.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too." M'gann couldn't help but chuckle, he was so formal.
Then her smile faded and all thoughts of him being formal and proper went out the window when Seven spoke again.
"Give me the tour hot stuff..." the young man started causing M'gann's body to stiffen.
"Hot Stuff?" M'gann started, her back straightening as her friendly smile faded. "Do I look like a jalapeno to you?"
"...I want to see everything. Gotta get my moneys worth." The voice was different again with almost a southern Texas drawl to it. If he was trying to be funny M'gann didn't find the humour in it. Or was he schizophrenic? M'gann would have picked up on the dual personality if he was though.
"Get your money's --Ok look I don't know what you think I am but you are not seeing my 'Everything' I don't care how much money --" her words were cut short once more by Seven handing her a book; an encyclopedia actually, handed it to her upside down even.
M'gann was totally confused now. She never once got the pervy vibe from his thoughts and yet his words were the exact opposite and then he turns around and thrusts her a book. It was as if he didn't realize what he was really saying. His actions say one thing but his words, another.
"Cheerleading Unit mission is to breach and disperse information"
His thoughts were more or less how he spoke, the concepts where there but he didn't have the words to express what he was after. So he fitted phrases or parts of conversations based on his limited knowledge. M'gann was so tempted to create a link to his mind so as to translate what he really means however that entailed showing what she truly was and she wasn't going to risk that kind of exposure to a stranger. So she had to do it the 'old school' way.
"Uhm, ok I will get you the information you need but first things first. We are going to have some ground rules parameters." M'gann started deciding to give him the basis for their working relationship before they moved forward. "You will use my name, Megan when referring to me or addressing me. I am not 'Hot stuff' nor am I a Cheerleading unit. We don't go on 'missions' and there will be no breaching of anything ok?"

The human brain is made up of two sides. The common theory is that one side deals with creative thinking and the other is responsible for all the logic. For Seven that side of his brain was always working while his creative and emotional responses were held back. Bottled up because they did not fit the way he was trained to see the world. Currently life was like a giant jigsaw that people were handing him pieces slowly over time to make up a bigger picture of understanding. M'gann had just handed him one such piece.
The memory image of that tour guide and chuck was replayed in his mind as Seven took apart the scene with a surgical precision of sheer logic. Everything the clone saw was treated in a similar fashion. He knew the distance between each object, the forces acting on it. Tone, body language and other factors to how anyone might react to a given stimuli was calculated and recorded. A brain like a super computer as it ripped every detail away until he found what he was looking for. Chuck had expressed arrogance, attraction and pleasure in how he had acted. The tour guide was polite but the reaction he hadn't understood before now made sense. She had been insulted and repulsed. As she gave her ground rules the clone nodded his understanding. It raised questions but they would have to wait until proper protocol had been established.
"This Unit..Seven..I..did not mean to offend." His words were careful, slowly picked and twisted from other voices to his own. "I apologize and offer compensation."
How he could repay her though was the question. The only thing he could think of was to correct her mistake. "M'gann is a mimic. Seven is a mimic also. M'gann missing detail."
He placed a hand on her stomach lightly before changing his mind and carefully taking her hand, making sure that she knew he wasn't attempted to engage in combat and then just as carefully placed her hand on his t-shirt and the muscles below. "Humans breath to live. M'gann breath is off." With a practised ease the clone soldier shifted his body posture to duplicate the martians. Now M'gann had her hand against the stomach of a six foot muscled male who stood like a teenage girl. Everything about how he stood, blinked or slight movements were just like here. Thankfully, or perhaps not so much, he looked nothing like her.
"M'gann breath." He said as his body took a full breath. One intake, one exhale. With her martian senses it was fairly easy to take in the movements. Seven had no idea she had different senses, he just assumed she was like him and could sense the changes like he could.
"Human breath." Again he inhaled and exhaled. The change was extremely subtle. If you paid attention as much as Seven did or had better senses than a human it would be something that could be noticed, the way the chest filled and internals moved as it did was minutely different. He continued to shift back and forth between M'gann breathing and a humans. It was not how he breathed however, his was a slower and far more controlled action. His body taking in more of what it needed from everything including this. Everything about his physique and mind had been to create a perfect human being. All the kinks of the human genome ironed out to create the pinnacle of what a human should be.
"What is a jalapeño? What is a cheer leader?" He asked finally, the questions having been on his mind since before when she had mentioned them.

[/i] "This Unit..Seven..I..did not mean to offend." His words were careful, slowly picked and twisted from other voices to his own. "I apologize and offer compensation."
M'gann looked up at Seven, nodding her head and accepting his apology. It seemed she was right, he didn't realize what he was saying was offensive but upon such realization he tried to make amends so she supposed he was ok after all. "Compensation isn't necessary. We're cool again." She replied offering up a small smile to him as the warmth in her eyes and friendly demeanour returned.
He was looking at her again in that strange analytical way as if contemplating something before he spoke out. "M'gann is a mimic..."
"What?" M'gann asked in surprise and immediate denial as she shook her head. Even if he was right, she had an identity to protect. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Seven is a mimic also. M'gann missing detail."
"Wait so you're -" she was about to ask if he was a metahuman when all of a sudden Seven moved to place his hand on her abdomen and M'gann took an instinctive step back, away from his hand at the same time he had pulled away but it was too late, she was already in motion
The sudden backpedalling caused M'gann to back up hard against the shelving and she winced when her head banged hard against the shelf of protruding books. M'gann winced from the sudden pain. "Ow.." she said touching the back of her head.
The next thing she knew Seven gently took her hand into his and carefully placed her hand on his t-shirt so it was pressed and splayed against his abdomen; her fingers feeling the warmth and press of muscle below fabric. "What are you doing?" she tried to pull away but his hand was on hers pressing it against him as he spoke and explained.
"Humans breath to live. M'gann breath is off."
And at that moment M'gann halted her resistance. Amazed at the young man's perceptiveness. Somehow within the strange interaction with Seven M'gann had forgotten to take her breaths like she usually did. She'd been playing human for so long it was almost second nature, but of course she got distracted with him earlier and stopped doing her 'breathing'. Then again even her breathing she did earlier Seven would have noticed was off.
"M'gann breath." He said as his body took a full breath. One intake, one exhale.
"Oh...right." she said following his instruction and lead. Every nuance of his breathing was taken in with her touch; sensing the rise and fall of his chest and conscious of the amount of expansion and contraction that occurred with each inhale and exhale. It was one thing to watch others do it and 'pretend to breath' raising one's shoulders and expanding one's chest etc, however it was another thing altogether to feel every nuance of the breath as it entered the lungs then exit it.
"Human breath." Seven said as he then demonstrated and continued to shift back and forth between M'gann breathing and a human's to give her a better understanding of the nuances.
M'gann then started to match his rhythm inhaling and exhaling softly. She couldn't help but smile at the simplicity of it all and yet it was that small detail that and made him realize she was not like the rest. It was a small nugget of insight but an important lesson for the young Martian; the devil was in the details.
"Thank you." she said looking up at the young man to smile at him appreciatively. It was only then that she became cognoscente of their close proximity, the feel of his muscles beneath. Everything about his physique and mind had been to create a perfect human being. All the kinks of the human genome ironed out to create the epitome of what a human should be so it was kind of hard to miss the perfection. It didn't help either that he looked like a spitting image of Ian Somerhalder or who M'gann often referred to as Ian Somer-smolder. So when realization struck, M'gann was frozen there for a moment looking at him, her stomach knotting with a strange sensation, her hand still on his abdomen and his hand over hers as they breathed in unison. M'gann didn't notice Mrs. Green standing at the end of the aisle with her arms crossed and a look of disapproval, until of course the librarian cleared her throat.
"Megan." the woman said with stern displeasure. "This isn't the time or the place for that."
"Mr's Green." a startled M'gann reacted, looking in the direction of the sound and immediately pulled her hand off of Seven her face flushed pink with embarrassment. She moved to step back and away from Seven abruptly only to once more bump her head.
"Ow..again." M'gann winced as she grumbled rubbing her head. "It's not what it looks like." she tried to explain but it fell on def ears as the librarian moved on. A soft giggle followed the stern reprimand, as the librarian's daughter who had tagged along after her mother saw M'gann with her hand on Seven's chest and with a lingering glance made an exaggerated kissing action to taunt M'gann.
"Someone needs to kill me now." M'gann mumbled mortified at the mistaken situation. It had been an innocent act on both parties, nothing at all meant to be provocative or sensual, simply because the two were caught up on breathing techniques but hard to explain that one without giving away what she was. So she was just forced to let the incident go unattested. Then Seven chose to speak up.
"What is a jalapeño? What is a cheer leader?" He asked finally.
" Cheerleaders are people that perform organized cheer, chanting and dancing usually in support of a sports team but we also have our own competitions that we compete at." she explained. "I am a cheer leader and this is what we do..."
M'gann pulled out her tablet and pulled up a video of one of their routines, the young Martian being thrown over head ans tossed in the air left to flip and twirl. It also showed her balanced on the hands of her squad mates as she stood on one foot and performed a scorpion tail hold only to then he tossed back up high in the air and caught by her team. She also showed clips of game night where she did tumbling runs and had the pompoms he asked about earlier. "That's cheerleading" she smiled.
"And a jalapeño, is a medium sized chilli pepper. Its spicy and often used in Mexican food. Have you never had Mexican?" M'gann asked after having answered Seven's questions. "Where are you from Seven."

Something weird had happened, something he couldn't put a logical label too. First they were breathing back and forth, he could see her alter to match. It was odd to see someone duplicate him for a change. Then her body language shifted and his with it as he was mimicking her at the time. He could read the emotional shift, it took him a moment to register what it meant and his brain sort of went into a static buzz. His heart stopped and then thumped quickly in his chest, he could feel a strange tingle in his stomach where her hand was. As his emotional stopper came undone his eyes began to cloud with the strange inky substance. Then there was a voice behind them. The librarian and her little girl and just like that everything went back to normal.
It was like a damn had just been erected in his mind, all the growing emotions were slammed back into the bottle and lid nailed shut. He watched the pair of females wander off, though the gesture the smaller one had given he had never seen before. That strange movements with her lips. Turning back to M'gann as she bumped her head again, she seemed nervous for some reason. The best way to remove nerves was to distract with something else and so he asked his two questions. Truthfully he wanted to know what it was that had just happened but from her current reaction he felt it safer to wait. Perhaps ask Katt instead, that seemed more sensible. Katt was a clone like him, she would know what had just occurred.
He watched as she took out the tablet to show him videos of her preforming acts of agility. The cheers were lost on him for the moment but watching her movements was definitely of interest. Again something strange happened. Were normally he would be watching the movement, taking note of each action and recording it for use further down the line. Yet part of his mind was getting drawn to her, the way she looked and moved. The way her clothes moved, the way her hair shifted as she flipped and danced. Thankfully for his sanity she began to talk and he shifted his attention back to the girl.
She said a serious of words that meant nothing, spicy, mexican and chilli were unknowns as his mind went back to a more logical slant he shook his head in answer. His mouth felt oddly dry.
Where was he from, that at least he knew the answer too. "I am from Cadmus. Currently AWOL and off mission." Seven looked like he was considering something before he continued "I have changed mission objectives. New Mission under way and in progress." Tilting his head a little he continued "Is M'gann AWOL?"

"I am from Cadmus... " Seven had said and the word 'Cadmus' was enough to make M'gann halt her own thoughts as she was trying to guess where he would say he was from. Never in her guesses did she consider Cadmus and the realization brought a slight chill to her.
She was familiar with Cadmus and what it was known for and suddenly it all seemed to make sense. Seven's strange name, his strange mannerisms and behavior, his seeming naiveté about things it all just clicked into place for M'gann in an eerie way. Seven's voice as he continued to explain his situation pulled M'gann from her thoughts momentarily.
"...Currently AWOL and off mission.
"AWOL? As in Away Without Leave..." it sounded so military. Was he a soldier? He didn't seem like one or even act like one, really.
He had the physic of one capable of soldiering but he didn't really seem the soldier type, he didn't act like it. If anything he seemed more child mimicking everything he saw and heard rather than some deadly machine but yet AWOL was a military term wasn't it? Then again maybe he was just using the word. He really didn't act like a soldier.
"You left Cadmus? Why?" she asked, suddenly wary. What was his mission and why come here to Metropolis library? Unless...
Amber eyes watched him closely, reading him. He looked like he was considering something before he continued "I have changed mission objectives. New Mission under way and in progress."
Tilting his head a little he continued "Is M'gann AWOL?"
M'gann shook her head. "No, I'm just a Freshman here at Met U. Uhm Metropolis University." she corrected herself thinking the abbreviated word might confuse him. "Seven, you said you left Cadmus, why? What was your mission and why are you here?"
A million questions were flying around in her head but she had to narrow it down for the moment and streamline it. Her friends were from Cadmus, Kat, Connor, was Seven sent out to get them back? Or worse hurt them in some way. "Seven, what was your purpose in Cadmus?"
Outside as the two spoke dark shiny black SUVs pulled up around campus and men in well tailored dark suits came stepping out of the vehicles spreading out on campus by foot. The dark formally clad men all looked like secret service men however they weren't working for the government and they were out and on the look out for one thing and one thing only. At the moment they were far from the library and were still moving their way through the various buildings checking each area, section by section combing the campus for something, or someone. What was your mission?
Without even a thought Seven replied, after all he had been asked a question and he was compelled to give an honest answer "Metahuman capture, assassination and subterfuge. Secondary Directive, combat in alien hostile territory. Adapting, assimilating and annihilation of hostile forces. Project Paragon is the perfect Soldier."
Seven continued though after a beat "No longer on Mission. Mission objective changed. Unit..I have created new mission status." He really needed to learn more words he realised. Every time he had found a new person to talk too, where he came from and what he was for eventually came up. Perhaps this is what Katt meant about it being hard. People would know what he had been created for, know what he was supposed to do. It always seemed to cause the same reaction. Fear.
The clone would have to find words to change the fear to something more positive, alleviate it into something that would aid him and the person in moving past it. The male definitely didn't want to be stuck in the past. "M'gann is not target. I have no target." Katt understood, how could he get M'gann to understand as well? Katt was military though, like him so perhaps that was it, he just had to find a common term that would signify that he wasn't a danger to her as a meta-human. He didn't want to scare the girl off, whatever had happened earlier he wanted to know more about it and that meant keeping her around for now. "M'gann is safe." He floundered a bit trying to locate words to translate into his own voice "Mission is to acquire knowledge, understand and grow. I do not want original mission." The frustration was starting to grow again, with it a definite need to learn to communicate better. He had improved a lot since meeting Katt but still had miles to go.
Then he heard a familiar sound and turned his attention to the door, outside in the hallway was the click click of expensive shoes on the tiled floors. Followed by a radio beep. Seven looked at M'gann as his eyes flooded over with a strange ink like substance "They are here. We must leave. If they find a meta-human or Unit, they will attempt capture." Thinking back to his earlier attempts at getting into the place, badly planned and poorly executed, Seven needed a better way to escape. "M'gann uses this habitat. M'gann can aid in safe extraction." It didn't really come out like a question, it was more a sort of order slash query. Seven looked at the doors to the library, it wouldn't be long and they would be here, standard search pattern most likely. He then looked at the desk where the woman and the small female were. Would they be harmed? Had he placed them in danger as well?
Cadmus would have weapons to subdue him, or kill him he mused. They didn't really want him alive to Seven's knowledge. Which means he needed a distraction, something to get the innocent people out. Again he looked around the room before he saw what he wanted, moving much quicker than a human should Seven leaned past M'gann to the wall and there was a click followed by the fire alarm.
"Distraction required. Too many non-combatants in the area. Do not want anyone hurt." Seven added as reasoning, he had found that not everyone followed his train of thought.

~The perfect soldier...metahuman capture, assassination and subterfuge...Adapt, assimilate... annihilate...~ M'gann thought repeating his words with disbelief.
He had answered her question without hesitation, without deception. He was telling her the truth, she knew this and yet his words seemed so unbelievable. This man that barely had a grasp of the English language, that spoke in broken and stunted sentences, that mimicked voices and seemed more child-like than warrior was actually a product of Cadmus sent out to annihilate. M'gann said nothing still floored by the revelation and admission of the young man. Is he lying? Messing with her? Why would he just out right tell her these things? She tried to reason through and work it out even as Seven continued.
"No longer on Mission. Mission objective changed..." He had said as if in answer to her earlier questions of 'why'." . Unit..I have created new mission status."
"Yeah, that's still not very comforting." M'gann replied. Skeptical now and looking at the young man with new eyes; a bit uneasy around him now.
"M'gann is not target. I have no target." he tried to explain and put her at ease. In fact he seemed to be trying to put her mind at ease at being around him.
"M'gann is safe." He floundered a bit as if trying to find the words to translate into his own voice "Mission is to acquire knowledge, understand and grow. I do not want original mission."
M'gann could feel the sense of frustration in Seven starting to grow again. "What's wrong?" M'gann asked, only to watch as Seven turned his head slightly, his attention to the door, outside in the hallway. M'gann could hear the approach of heeled shoes against tiled floor but she didn't understand his sudden shift and apprehension.
"They are here..."
"What? Who?... Cadmus?" M'gann asked.
"... We must leave. If they find a meta-human or Unit, they will attempt capture." Seven explained. "M'gann uses this habitat. M'gann can aid in safe extraction."
"That wasn't even a question was it?" M'gann said knowing that it wasn't. Her eyes momentarily glanced at Seven noting the sudden shift in his demeanor, in his body language and even the emotions or lack there of.
Seven looked at the doors to the library and M'gann's eyes followed. She could hear the faint steps, it wouldn't be long before they reached the library. Immediately M'gann's eyes like Seven went to the civilians in the group; particularly Mrs. Green and her daughter who were now at the woman's desk. The potential danger in a confrontation with Cadmus here was something M'gann wanted to avoid at all costs. She didn't know if Cadmus would have weapons with them or not but she really didn't want to stick around to find out. They needed to get these people out of here.
"OK, I'll help you but we need to find a way to get these people out of here." M'gann said noting Seven was already looking around for something and was on the move making M'gann wonder if he even heard her about getting the people out of here safely.
"Did you hear m--" M'gann started to say as Seven leaned past her to the wall pulled a lever on the wall, there was an audible click followed by the fire alarm.
"Oh.." she said as the alarm rang causing people in the library to pick up there things and move out to the nearby exits. "Smart." M'gann smiled approving of the move.
"Distraction required. Too many non-combatants in the area. Do not want anyone hurt." Seven added explaining his methods.
"I know. It was a smart move, thank you." M'gann said with a nod of appreciation for not getting the civilians tangled in the mess.
"It will get them out safely, and at the same time not draw attention to us while we ditch the Cadmus clowns. "
"Ok so let's go." she said grabbing his hand and quickly leading him against the crowd moving towards the obvious doorways out.
M'gann wove Seven through the mill of people vacating the library but also moving him to the back and onto the upper level. Up the stairs she lead him even as students and the likes were moving down the stairs. They would be expecting a ground floor escape she figured and because she heard their steps down on the main level, M'gann was going to take Seven through a roundabout route that she hoped would lose the Cadmus agents if that's who they were.
Up the stairs and down the back she never once let go, looking back to make sure he was keeping up and also that no one was following. At the back of the room on the second floor she opened which lead to a stairwell that would either lead them back down to the main level or go further the building.
She started to pull him in the direction of going down the stairs when she felt them...
"Wait." she whispered, listened and confirmed. The men were heading up the stairs and saw the two. "Crap...you need to get out of here. Head up the stairs. Go." M'gann had said to Seven.
Whether he went at her request to leave or not M'gann didn't have time to argue. She would put her hand on her temple and closed her eyes, focusing on the men below. There was a shot fired close to hitting but it didn't so she paid it no mind as she focused and tried to enter their minds, pull at the receptors that granted sleep.
BLAM! BLAM! Two more shots fired but the girl refused to release her concentration and just like that the two men collapsed; asleep.
M'gann opened her eyes then turned to head in the only direction they could at the moemnt; up the stairs. "There's more coming. We can't go down there..." she said of the stairs below. "Ok so let's go." she said grabbing his hand and quickly leading him against the crowd moving towards the obvious doorways out.
Seven didn't resist as she began to lead him out the building, after all it was exactly what he had wanted her to do. As she led him around Seven paid just enough attention to get a better idea of the building plans. Each way she led him helped created a sort of 3d mental map of the building. Door placement, room size, even what he assumed the materials were. Yet as much as Seven was doing that, his eyes kept being drawn back to M'gann as she held his hand leading the way. His mind wandering to her movements and shape.
Up the stairs and down the back she never once let go, looking back to make sure he was keeping up and also that no one was following. At the back of the room on the second floor she opened which lead to a stairwell that would either lead them back down to the main level or go further the building.
She started to pull him in the direction of going down the stairs when she stopped. Seven gave her his full attention as she spoke. "Wait." she whispered, listened and confirmed. The men were heading up the stairs and saw the two. "Crap...you need to get out of here. Head up the stairs. Go."
Seven turned to move and then there was a gunshot, it had missed her by a few inches but for some reason she had stopped and closed her eyes with a hand against her head. He had taken a few steps and stopped to look back as she still hadn't moved. The man with the gun fired again, not at Seven but at M'gann. Seven dashed forward without a thought, the aim was spot on this time. Blam. The first shot hit him square in the shoulder. Blam. The second shot was just above his ribs.
Behind him he could hear the two men hit the floor, the gun clattering down the stairs as it was released. He was aware of the pain in his back but it didn't seem to be a hindrance. He stepped away from M'gann as her eyes opened again. "There's more coming. We can't go down there..." She motioned downward and Seven nodded. "Standard search pattern. Seal off exits and push target into inescapable zone. Roof is considered such a zone. Will jump to next roof. Can carry M'gann if needed." Seven moved up the stairs, the holes the bullets had made were not bleeding all that much, already clotting over due to his body healing itself. The wounds would take time to heal but they wouldn't bleed for long at all. Once he put a foot on the rooftop, Seven froze and scanned the area carefully. Something didn't seem right.
There was a slow clapping as a man in uniform stepped out from behind a stack "Well done Unit Seven, you led us a decent chase but you must know that you can't elude us forever. Time to return to base for debriefing." The clone took a step onto the roof, his training kicking in as his Captain spoke. "Surprised you managed to stay out the way for so long, did you have help?"
Seven froze again. M'gann was close, they would kill her. Then they would find Katt and who knew what Cadmus would do to his fellow clone. His fists clenched which caused the Captain to laugh in amusement. That sent him over the edge, Seven snapped. Rage that had been locked away was let out like a tidal wave and it crashed down on the person of Seven's anger. The Captain was taken unaware as the Clone tackled him to the ground and started punching, punch after punch rained down on the man. The burning hate and wrath that Seven felt was let go in a moment of glorious violence until the first splash of blood hit his face. Then it was locked away again, a moment of shame briefly crossed his mind as the clone pondered just what he had done. Checking the humans neck, Seven slid away once he was sure the man was still alive. "I am sorry Captain. I will not allow you to harm others because of me. Please desist hunting me. It will not end well for me or you." Moving back a few feet before he pulled himself back up to his feet and looked for M'gann. Part of him worried what she might think of what he had just done, another part wanted him to finish off the captain and the rest unsure why he had reacted that way.

[/span] Blam!Didn't even see him come forward to shield her as the first shot hit him square in the shoulder. The pain felt and the thoughts were all distant and muffled as she focussed on reaching the man's mind and carefully affecting the part of the brain that controls sleep. She was so focussed she didn't even hear the second shot fired Blam!Didn't even hear him grunt as the second shot struck just above his ribs. Didn't feel his pain or his thoughts as she was concentrating; careful not to blast through the man's mine but rather carefully touch on the elements that would induce sleep but amplifying the telepathic suggestion as to apply a near instant deep sleep and as soon as she felt that release; that success her telepathic affect. M'gann opened her eyes and all the thoughts and emotions, senses and sounds all came crashing into her. The two men hit the floor, their guns clattering down the stairs as it was released. M'gann suddenly blinked in confusion for a moment seeing him tower before her form. Hadn't she told him to go? What was he doing in front of her now? She was suddenly aware of his pain but he didn't seem to be hurt or rather he didn't look affected even if she could feel it emanate from him. She was about to ask him what happened when she felt the minds of others; more of them coming. "There's more coming. We can't go down there..." She motioned downward and Seven nodded "Standard search pattern. Seal off exits and push target into inescapable zone. Roof is considered such a zone. Will jump to next roof. Can carry M'gann if needed." Seven moved up the stairs.
"I can...manage to jump a roof top." M'gann answered cryptically as she ran up the steps in stride with him. She didn't want to exactly explain that she can fly, kind of a strange thing for most human to be able to do so she kept her real abilities and the need to know to a bare minimum. Though as they ran up the stairs for the room she noticed his back. "You were shot!" M'gann said in surprise running up along but slightly behind so that she touched the bleeding entry wounds delicately as realization struck that he had shielded her from being struck while she was otherwise indisposed.
"You're going to need medical attention and get those bullets out." she noted. It should have been worse, the bleeding, but wasn't, though still she could feel his pain even if he didn't let it show. And it was still bleeding even if it wasn't like it should have for what it had gone through and hit.
As they both looked out at the rooftop and Seven's foot on the roof ledge, M'gann suddenly felt another presence, "We're not alone up here." she whispered to her companion.
Seven froze then and M'gann turned to see him scann the area carefully even he knew something wasn't right. M'gann turned to where she sensed the other's mind just as a slow clapping was made as a man in uniform stepped out from behind a stack "Well done Unit Seven, you led us a decent chase but you must know that you can't elude us forever. Time to return to base for debriefing." M'gann looked back to Seven then at the uniformed man. The clone took a step onto the roof, m'gann could sense the young man's training kicking in as his Captain spoke. "Surprised you managed to stay out the way for so long, did you have help?" He didn't even acknowledge M'gann, as if she really didn't exist, no wait...she was expendable; collateral damage that could easily be cleaned up. That was his thoughts and at the same time she sensed that Seven had figured that out too and the young man froze. There was a moment of calm an eerie silence in his mind before his fists clenched.
"Seven?" M'gann whispered softly looking up at the young man that now was devoid of feeling or thoughts; calm before the storm. M'gann knew what was bubbling beneath that cool repose.
And just like that he snapped, triggered by the sound of another man's mocking laughter; Seven snapped. The rage and hate unleashed caught M'gann off guard it was so intense so wrathful with a justifiable and honest intent to protect and yet the rage was also primal almost desperate hatred in its basest emotion. It was a kind of rage M'gann had not come across in a very long time. By the time she had snapped out of the surprise she felt form the emotional rage emanating from Seven the young man was already attacking his Captain; an otherwise unarmed man.
"SEVEN STOP!!!" M'gann called out as the Cadmus clone kept striking the man until blood had coated him.
"stop..." it was practically a pleading whisper for if he didn't stop he would force her hand and she'd have no choice but to put him down. As much as that man must have meant all that was threatening and deadly to Seven, the Captain had done nothing other than clap; nothing to warrant the beating he received at least from M'gann's limited prospective. However she also knew she didn't know the whole story.
Eerily though that rage and all those pent up emotions were once again washed away; bottled up and pushed down replaced with a brief look of shame.
"You didn't kill him." M'gann said even as Seven checked the man's vitals. "But you could have." Seven spoke to the prone and bloody Captain as he lay there panting from the beating he received. In some ways it made M'gann question the stability of Seven and if it was a good idea for her to allow his escape to the world at large especially if he blew up at someone like this again. She heard him talk to the man about not hunting him or harming those around him. Moving back a few feet from the Captain, Seven pulled himself back up to his feet and looked for M'gann. The Martian had still been by the roof's ledge though she didn't make any effort to walk towards him. Her eyes were on him now as if seeing him for the first time as someone else; they were serious in her gaze and as much as she tried not to judge, her look was uncertain. "I don't know what he did to you, but he was unarmed and did not post enough of a threat warrant the amount of ... 'force' to subdue." she said softly as if seeing him for the first time in a different light with the Captain's blood splattered against him making him look slightly macabre. "You can't just attack people like that Seven. No matter what they've done otherwise it makes you just as bad as them...Your action has to be a proportional response. Do you understand?"
Her eyes then darted to the doorway the other soldiers were coming. "We can't stay here, others are coming and we need to treat your wounds." M'gann said finally jumping down the ledge and back onto the roof top with Seven moving up to look the man in the eyes. "You saved my life and for that I owe you, but from now on new mission parameters...No attacking unarmed people unless in self defense. OK?"[/span][/div] [/ul][/font] tag VII word count 1,174 [/div] notes I might have gotten carried away writing >.>lyrics Dance with the Devil by Breaking Benjamin credit Rae of Sunshine! of Caution 2.0 made this temp!

And there it was.
The thing Katt had spoke about.
Seven had thought it would be a communication error, perhaps a misunderstanding from how he expressed himself but it wasn't that at all, was it?
It was no one else could understand what they had gone though. M'gann had seen everything, saw his reaction to the Captain but in her mind it was out of context. Seven could understand that to her he had just beat someone up, someone who appeared unarmed or helpless but the Captain was far from helpless. Truthfully Seven was glad he had taken advantage of surprise, after all his Captain was the one that was responsible for the clones training. Training and Discipline.
Memory images of being electrocuted, beaten and demoralised constantly as part of education. All those videos of human wars to remove any humanity or morality that might have slipped though the initial screening. Yet how could M'gann know how much of a monster the Captain was?
A sort of sadness fell over the clone male. Some part of him had thought there was a connection between the two mimics, someone who might be like him or at least understand what he was going though but it seemed like Katt was right, no one understood except another clone.
Now when Seven looked at M'gann all he could see was the change in body language, the strange look in her eyes and her change in tone.
"I don't know what he did to you, but he was unarmed and did not post enough of a threat warrant the amount of ... 'force' to subdue. You can't just attack people like that Seven. No matter what they've done otherwise it makes you just as bad as them...Your action has to be a proportional response. Do you understand?"
"I understand. Orders processed and applied." Seven couldn't control the trace of hurt that tinged his words, emotions still flickering around. He was disappointed in what had happened, though he knew there was no other response. Was he supposed to give himself back to his creators for dissection and torture so they could learn everything he knew or had done before making others? The Captain would have called others, killed M'gann and eventually killed Katt. Instead Seven had broken protocol and left the man alive, by choice. Something he was sure he would regret eventually. All he could think of was that Katt was right, no one would understand them. That thought alone was mentally destroying. How could he exist in a world that didn't understand him?
"We can't stay here, others are coming and we need to treat your wounds. You saved my life and for that I owe you, but from now on new mission parameters...No attacking unarmed people unless in self defense. OK?"
Seven looked at her, his whole demeanour shifted to something of a more robotic creature in reaction to her own shift in attitude. She felt like she owed him for protecting her but yet she viewed him as something else now, before there had been a moment of something he had never felt before and now it was like being in a testing environment. So he defaulted to following orders and sticking to his objectives. Everything was just a huge confusing mess.
Yet wasn't that what he was trying to avoid?
He was trying to change, trying to be something more than the creation of Cadmus. For that to happen he had to fight against the feeling of cold detachment that grew to fill as the female spoke.
"I am sorry for that. You don't understand. Be thankful for that." Seven turned the words over in his mind as he spoke, his usual searching for the right ones before they came out his mouth. "I am sorry you have become involved in this. You owe me nothing. The Captain is dangerous. We need to keep moving. Wounds are manageable." As the other soldiers started running up the stairs, Seven looked at them briefly, all black and face covered. Standard black ops stuff that no one could say was any particular unit or force. Without thinking Seven scooped M'gann up almost casually and with a few steps back he dashed forward and jumped towards the next building.
Then it struck him, something was sapping his strength. The rooftop got closer but with his condition as it was Seven realised they wouldn't make it. Shifting her in his arm Seven tensed up, the roof edge got closer and closer and suddenly he dropped her with a slight lift, sending her onto the roof with as much gentleness as he could manage as he dropped short of the edge himself. With a thump Seven hit the fire escape and lashed out with a hand to grab the metal rail, his body crashing against it. Seven felt sleepy, something was wrong and he wasn't sure why. His mind replayed memories from before it happened until he found the right one, teh Captain had injected Seven with something. He hadn't noticed it in his emotional episode. He felt it now though, the clone pulled himself up and flopped onto the grated floor.
"I am defective.." Seven voice was slurred, slow and the drugs made their way through his system. Cadmus had sedated him, it wouldn't last long but with the soldiers already moving for retrieval, that was all they needed. "Sorry M'gann. I can not keep you safe any longer." His voice dropped off at the end as his body shut down into unconsciousness.
